The pinnacle of alien evolution, Maw is a cowardly fat blob concerned mostly with snacking and lounging. He can, however, absorb the traits of anything he eats, is virtually indestructible, and can grow to unlimited size. If he wasn't a danger to all life in the universe, he'd make the perfect pet.

A rudimentary (but enjoyable) 3D puzzle-platformer originally available on the XBoxLive Arcade during the XBox360 era, this game definitely has its charms and is a relatively stress-free way to burn 3-4 hours. The basic premise of the game is simple enough, and the developers did a great job of building out a bare-bones but well-planned experience for the genre. I commented multiple times during my playthrough that while the game itself was not revolutionary by any means, it felt like the sort of thing you could present in a class on game design as an example of what the base expectation for the genre should be, and it does a good job of presenting a story and explaining what is required with ZERO dialogue or written text along the way, making it accessible even to very young players. The downsides: this is (again) a fairly rudimentary example of what a game in the 3D puzzle/platformer genre should be, and there is very little to "do" in each of the individual stages...you are expected to move through the puzzles one at a time with very little chance (that I could see) of truly "messing up" a puzzle or getting lost / confused. Other than that, there is a fairly easy to find collectible in each stage, and the game acknowledges when you have eaten every prey creature in a given stage, but that's about it. The three "deleted scenes" (DLC) felt a bit too long to really be enjoyable, and the Speeder Lane stage was downright frustrating with how many phases (6? 7? See what I did there?) the final "boss" for the stage had. Other than that, the only real frustrations for the game were the somewhat tedious walkbacks between puzzles and the extremely finnicky air vent puzzles found in a few of the stages, which had me getting genuinely annoyed by how specific your placement needed to be. Overall, as stated previously it's a decent enough game to run through on a relaxing Saturday morning, but it lacked the polish or filler necessary to keep me entertained for multiple sessions...once I get the last few achievements needed to 100% it, I doubt I would play it again. NOTE: The Steam store page indicates the game was not made for controllers, but I played using a wired XBoxOne controller on PC with no issues whatsoever. Go home Steam, you're drunk :D
Hungry hungry hippos late cousin
I played this game a ton on the Xbox 360. I randomly thought about it recently and found it on steam. I really love this game, i love maw, calling for maw is ingrained into my mind.
