About
The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante is a narrative-driven RPG that comes to life on the pages of the protagonist's journal. Set in a ruthless world where any form of dissent is mercilessly crushed, the story follows a man who has dared to challenge the existing order. Set out on a lifelong journey and become an individual able to carve out their own destiny... But remember that freedom never comes cheap.
Life in the Great Arknian Empire is harsh and its hardest Lot is yours by the circumstance of birth. You are a commoner, holding no rights and no title. To seize your fate and become the rightful heir to the legacy of the Brante family you will have to come to grips with ossified tradition and prejudice. Embarking on a life-long journey from one's birth until true death, you will have to endure great upheavals, face adversity, and make many difficult choices. Every decision will affect not only the protagonist, his family, and loved ones, but may even topple the foundation of the Empire itself.

At the turn of time
Every imperial citizen's life is predetermined by their estate. The deities known as the Twin Gods have bestowed this truth to the world, dividing mortals into Lots. The nobles lead and rule over others, while the clergy guides people on the one true path, and the lowborn suffer, toiling away for the glory of the Empire. You may accept your fate without question, but it is also in your power to change the cosmic order that governs all.

Your choice is not an illusion
Divided into chapters, the game keeps track of the player's deeds, the skills they acquired, as well as other overlapping circumstances that shape a unique plotline for each playthrough. Every decision has its consequences and you will be held accountable throughout the entire journey. To protect your family and loved ones, to impose the rule of the Emperor and make a fortune, or to try and change the world as you see fit... Make your choice, but beware of the follies of pride and ambition.

Fight for your life
One man is anything but omnipotent in this realm yet under your guidance, Sir Brante may become a person who can endure every trial fate throws at him and rewrite the very laws that govern his world! Develop and train your character, leveling up such traits as determination, sensitivity, and endurance. All of the hero's skills, starting with those acquired in infancy, will affect his personality, worldview, and relationships, ultimately unlocking new talents and possible storylines.

Find your own path
The first complete walkthrough can take you upwards of 15 hours! Numerous branching paths that affect the unfolding story will make every playthrough a unique experience: become a noble judge, learn the ways of the inquisition, plot a revolution as a member of a secret society, or embrace an entirely different purpose. Be brave and fate itself shall bend to your will!

There and hereafter
Resurrection system allows the character to keep his experience upon death, letting the player reevaluate past steps and make adjustments to their strategy going forward. Take control not only of your life but also your demise, then put everything at stake in this cycle of death and rebirth!

Reviews
This is one of the best games that I have played in decades. It provokes thought, is genuinely impactful, and has a rich universe and narrative to delve into. It is very challenging, and your goals when playing are often not met, except through extreme sacrifice, and by venturing into uncharted waters. It really reveals a lot about the world that we live in today, and the shaping of ones' character. I hope that the developers continue to expand upon the universe -- perhaps venturing into the future for a third sequel (after The Life & Suffering of Prince Jerian, of which I also deeply recommend).

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,420 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Well, this is really "choices matter" for the better or worse. Pro:

Branching narrative with quite some replay value. If that's what you're locking for, look no further.
Many characters have some complexity, and so do the various relations between factions
After it gained traction, it's exciting to follow the various events and outcomes
Doesn't overstay it's welcome with ~8 of playtime (I idled a bit)
Rather deep lore
Con:

The story. It is complex and keeps you on the toes b/c you are always afraid of a major screw-up. But it's not particularly interesting on it's own. It more like and episodic input-output presentation: you choose something, you get to read about it in detail and then gain/lose some points in various traits and aspects.
Prolonged foreboding. The first third of the game almost harasses you with rhetorical questions as "So, what will the outcome of this action be? Oh, the consequences! Let's see how it unfolds!" - Dudes, I got it - many choice, many impact, let's get to it!
The last chapter isn't really interactive anymore. You'll face tons of locked options and pick the one you're left with. You'll end up rail-road towards the pre-destined finale, get frustrated by some locked choice you miss by a single point, and fast-forward through the end.
While the narrative is branching and wide, achieving different outcomes in the finale seem to require meticulous planning/recursive backtracking (or a guide).
Subpar hotkeys. Arrow keys allow you to navigate through parts of the text, but you still have to click the confirmation button after each episode and to get through the "result" screens.
I hoped for a more gripping story, one that could stand on its own feet. But this was my misconception. The focus was clearly "choose your own adventure", and that part is done impressively done. You'll only get to read a fraction of the huge text body at each playthrough.

What is the point of building up my family unity to 9, my family wealth to 9, have full willpower, keep the rebellion as strong as possible without making Filipe too suspicious while secretly aquiring guns when the game decides during the last tiny section of the Peacetime chapter to just take it all away being locked out of decisions? Literally one decision that makes my bro mad ->next few chapters take away all willpower and unity without being able to pick due to "low stats"(werent low, just wasn't 10). There will be literally a forced event that takes away ALL of your Unity... Same thing with the rebellion. Apart from one decision the revolution was underway when I was forced to rat out a priest. No worries I will still have some chance to build back ESPECIALLY now that the game told me "my most loyal follower are armed with GUNS". Is this scheming seasoned warrior with musketmen will be able to gather the support of all the people and take this revolution underway? Nope apparently the Felipe just shows up and in a couple forced decisions the revolutionary spirit is gone and the spymaster kills me??? Cant cut him up, cant turn my revolutionaries on him can't do anything? My wealth doesn't buy any influence?? If playing both sides gets you killed by suspicion the only solution is to just accept being his dog since you will not be able to do the revolution. (Im p sure the revolutionary path sets you up by default as an informant) The game expects you to have some very arbitary FULL stats for some very specific events and if you dont you will get into a negative feedback loop and just fckn lose despite you carefully measuring every step.
