A game meant to bring back memories that is similar to Super Mario World on the SNES and it does this with relatively few gameplay and gimmick elements. After all, it has to be ready for take-off in order for children everywhere to receive their presents on schedule. But a wicked troll blasts us out of the sky just as the test drive is about to end. He went over the line and wants to ruin Christmas for everyone on Earth. It is up to us to bring the troll to his senses and save Christmas for everyone. TLoS brings players to two worlds and twelve levels of great platforming that are reminiscent of Super Mario World (SNES) but simplified. There are only six levels total, one of which is a castle, before the final battle with the troll. The only difference is that we will be collecting chocolate cookies rather than the traditional yellow coins. We also lose part of our cloak when we are injured, so it's not uncommon for you to find yourself jumping through the levels wearing nothing but red boxer shorts. For instance, red blocks can give you a new coat, which means extra life, or Santa socks and hats, which give a power-up or simply chocolate cookies. The power-up allows you to throw stones as if you had collected the Fire Flower from Super Mario, and that's about it. TLoS also offers a 2-4 co-op player mode, in which players will be able to work together to complete this short and family-friendly adventure. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3009359595 Similar to Super Mario World, you walk to a level to choose them in the Overworld. Once we reach a certain level, we are allowed to walk, leap, and even sprint. Additionally, there are other indications on the screen that show you how many cookies you have already gathered and how much time is remaining to finish the level. We get an extra life when 100 cookies are collected. We can activate a checkpoint about halfway through the level to pick up exactly where the checkpoint was reached, instead of having to do the entire level all over again. The game also features side-scrolling and underwater levels. The only problem is that if you quit at level three, close the game and start again, you have to start from level one, so you have to play the game in one go. This means that there are no save points or "save states". Considering the length of the game, this is not a big deal, but it's still "annoying". We may all agree, based on experience, that this is probably never going to happen, but Indie developers are there to make it happen. To avoid the tedious teachings at school, you used to be able to play these types of games in class on the usual Flash Player websites, and now you can play them on Steam. Though it's not a masterpiece, it's extremely minimalistic, and it's unquestionably too short, the 20 minutes I spent playing it were nevertheless a lot of fun, especially because the platforming is accurate and not wonky at all. Just remember, it's very minimalistic and may be too minimalistic for some, but if that doesn't bother you, feel free to go ahead and try it out. It would be my personal highlight if there were additional levels, more secret exits, more power-up alternatives, and more hours of overall playtime.
Final Verdict: 8/10 A typical gas station snack that turns out to be a surprisingly good one.🎅
A bit difficult for me, but definitely a fun enough game.
ㅋㅋ 아니 마리오게임하고 너무똑같은거 아닌가요 방식하고 몬스터도 썬칩같은거나오고 닌텐도가 이게임 봤으면 신고했을듯 ㄹㅇ
My Experience Admittedly, I don't play a lot of 2D platformers. The last 2D platforming series that I was really enamored with was Donkey Kong Country, the last of which came out over 25 years ago. However, I liked the fact that this one was Christmas-themed and I could play it with a friend using Remote Play Together. We hopped in and initially were having a decent time. The game reminded me so much of Super Mario Bros 3 that I found myself looking for a flagpole for Santa to try and reach the top of at the end of each level. We ran into an autoscrolling level, which I typically find pretty difficult, but you can circumvent it by taking another path and playing a water level instead. I don't love water levels either, but it was the lesser of two evils. Unfortunately, we ran into a total standstill at the first boss. Neither of us could get a handle on its attack pattern, and we ended up dying over and over and over again. Although it's a staple of old-school game design, I didn't love the fact that I then had to return to the level midpoint upon each death instead of being able to hop right into the boss fight again. I guess I was hoping for a lighthearted & simple Christmas-themed romp to play over my holiday break rather than a 2D platformer with comparable difficulty to the NES classics. However, it seems like player responses to this difficulty are all over the place. The quoted reviewer 336GameReviews noted that the final level was so difficult that they spent half of their playtime on it, and reviewers Alex and yikonoda both reference its difficulty. At the same time, reviewer Saibot says that they completed the entirety of the game in 40 minutes and it's appropriate for children who have never played games before. Either way, having a co-op partner play remotely in a game that demands precision usually doesn't work out very well - although I was catching L's as the host too. If you're nostalgic for the NES days and want another dose of 2D platforming, maybe The Legend of Santa will be just what the doctor ordered. Unfortunately it was a bit too intense for us.
Its obviously inspired by a famous plumber, but in this case we play as Santa! This is a lovely NES throwback, but beware: like NES, you have limited lives, no saved progress, and game over means game over, so get your NES game-face on and be conservative with the mistakes you make and the lives you have.
I absolutely loved this game. The Christmas theme and co-op is what sold me on it. It's a very solid Mario clone: very tight controls, very accurate physics to to the SNES/NES Mario games. It feels like it could be a Mario mod instead of a standalone game, that's how good it feels to play. The game is as difficult as those Mario games' later levels too. Despite having only two worlds I managed to get 12 hours of playtime playing through each world once in co-op. The Santa design is also fantastic. Very cute game.
Simplemente genial y prometedor.
Fun platformer with super mario world vibes controls really well , enjoying
Solid game, especially for the price. Got it on sale but would have happily paid full price for it. From the trailer I thought it was a Mario 3 clone. Its actually more like Lost Levels (i.e. quite challenging). I wish it had more worlds, maybe 7 instead of 2. Still though, amazing for the price.
