This collection is more than a nostalgia trip; it's a tribute to the pioneering developers of the 80's and 90's, whose creativity laid the groundwork for today's gaming industry.

The 1980's and '90's were a pioneering time for video games and for us at System 3, a games company set up in 1982, by Mark Cale. These decades saw the birth of many influential gaming platforms, genres and franchises, including these System 3 games that are still beloved to this day. Preserving these games is crucial, not only for nostalgic reasons, but also for understanding the roots of modern gaming and our history at System 3.
The original developers of these games were pioneers, experimenting with new technologies and game-play mechanics that would lay the groundworks for today's video game industry. This title helps ensure that the creativity, vitality and innovation of our early game developers are not forgotten, but preserved.
The Importance of Video Game Preservation: A Message from System 3
At System 3, we have always been dedicated to pushing the boundaries of video game development. From our ground-breaking titles in the 1980’s on the Commodore 64 (C64) and Amiga platforms to our continued innovations in the industry, we believe in the power of games to inspire, entertain, and create lasting memories.
However, as we look back on our journey, we recognize the critical importance of preserving these computer and video creations for future generations in a physical and digital format. Video game preservation is not just about archiving old games; it is about maintaining the cultural and historical significance of an entire medium.
Why Preserve Video Games?
Preserving video games is essential for several reasons. Firstly, it ensures that classic games remain playable, allowing new generations of players to experience the titles that shaped the industry.
Secondly, preservation efforts provide valuable resources for researchers studying the history and evolution of video games. Developers, too, can benefit from looking back at older games to draw inspiration and understand the technological and creative processes that went into their creation.
System 3’s Legacy
System 3 is proud to have contributed some of the most iconic and influential games in the industry, particularly on the C64 and Amiga platforms. Our Last Ninja series set new standards for graphics, gameplay, and immersive environments, leaving an indelible mark on the action-adventure genre selling more than 23 million copies across the series on various formats.
Titles like International Karate (the first European game to get a CES showcase award (June 1986) for innovation and the first European game to get a US Billboard Number one) and its sequel International Karate + (IK+) were pivotal in the development of fighting games, introducing fluid animations, responsive controls, and engaging multiplayer modes with three characters that were ahead of their time.
Preserving these games is crucial not only for their historical value but also for understanding the evolution of game design and technology. We believe that the legacy of The Last Ninja series, IK, and IK+ deserves to be remembered and studied, as they represent the innovation and creativity that defined the very early years of video game development in the 1980’s.

great trip down memory lane, but I forgot how brutal the stone jumping is. Runs great and its awesome to finally be able to play the amiga versions (i think the c64 versions are the best tho)
For me, this collection is a double-edged sword. The games themselves are still great. The controls, atmosphere, and especially the music hold up even today, and technically they run clean and stable. What this collection lacks, however, is any kind of loving re-presentation. At its core you only get the bare games, without context, without comfort features or acknowledging the cult status of this series. The save-state system is awkward. Achievements and cheats could help to motivate the player. Additional background material would highlight the importance of those games. Also optional remixes of the original music would have been a great benefit . Rereleases like Quake or X-Out Resurfaced show that classics can be treated with much more care. This feels more like a ROM collection with an official stamp. I still recommend it because the games themselves are strong enough to survive this sparse presentation. Anyone who loves The Last Ninja or wants to discover it gets the best official way to do so here. But anyone expecting a lovingly curated anniversary edition will be disappointed.
damals auf dem C64 mein absoluites Lieblings Spiel ohne Trainer ein sehr schweres Spiel, daher Spiele Ich es immer noch auf meinem C64
If you want to indulge in childhood memories, this is exactly the game for you. Yes, I know there are plenty of emulators out there, but here you can pay tribute to the devs for their unique work.
Wer mit dem C64 aufgewachsen ist, der wird ein großer Fan der Last Ninja-Reihe sein. Und ihr werdet es lieben. Trotzdem greift erst bei einem Sale zu.
Back in 1987 System really showed what the C64 could do with The Last Ninja. Coupled with some wonderful tunes by the late Ben Daglish, this game was part of the bedrock of my formative gaming experience. Here's it's been lovingly repackaged into a collection with some other rippers from the era. Well worth the price.
Last Ninja 2. Best. music. Ever.
Ahhh.. the nostalgia.... Hits you right in the feels and transports those who were there, right back to the 80's. The music, the gameplay, the jumping puzzles all given a new lease on life. If you loved any of these games back in the day, you definitely want to check this collection out. If you are new on the scene (i.e not an 80's 90's kid) and are interested in some retro fun, you really can't go wrong here! Do yourself a favour!! ..and for those that know, THIS GAME'S PANTS <3 oh... and the MUSIC...what the composers were able to squeeze out of that C64 SID chip... man 10/10
Well, what can you say about revisiting a game 30 years after release? Does it stand up, was it all nostalgia, is it shallow by today's standards? Well I can honestly say that these games, especially the core Last Ninja games, are just as fun today as they were on their original release. With great puzzles, fun combat and a wonderfully cool vibe I probably enjoy these more now than I did as a grumpy teen who wasn't willing to play harder games. Presentation is also excellent, with different ways to enjoy the games and multiple versions of each so, for the price, this is an absolute steal and I can only hope more of their excellent back-catalogue are given the same treatment.
