For those who backed Forsaken Fortress in crowdfunding, prepare to be dissapointed. I liked the idea of the open world and modular basebuilding, which this release is completely lacking. You don't build a base in this at all. You build furniture, or production stations. And the world is divided into small areas with travel times/loading between them. The original game I backed was abandoned. The buggy final version of the original idea is still better than this release. That being said, what they have released is an ok game, just not what they promised and not that interesting. It is probably worth the $10 they are charging, just don't expect what was promised by the crowdfunding campaign.
DO NOT BUY. DEVS ARE SCAM ARTISTS. I backed this project on Kickstarter six years ago, two years later Photon Arena claimed they couldn't complete the game and no backer rewards would be fulfilled. THEN, they put what they had worked on (which is just a collection of re-used Unity assets) on Steam and started selling it without letting the Kickstarter backers know. THEN, they continued to lie about updates for the project (no update in almost two years), leaving it completely abandoned and unplayable, yet still for sale on Steam. Multiple people contacted Steam to report the game, and instead of taking it down, Photon Arena simply started blocking people complaining about it and using sock puppet accounts to make it seem like users were enjoying the game. Flippy is one of the sock puppet accounts, who has said this game is "better than Xcom". It is not. It is unplayable and this comparison is a laughable lie on the scale of Trump saying the Access Hollywood tapes were faked. Flippy is clearly a shill for Photon Arena. After all the complaints and reports, nothing has changed and Photon Arena has just kept lying. The game is not going to be updated, it will not be fixed and Haoran the coward scammer and his team have dissapeared. Don't listen to anything Photon Arena says, it will all be lies, as will all posts from Flippy and the company's other sock puppet shills. Game CANNOT be played and is COMPLETELY unusable. It is a disgrace and the devs should be ashamed. Steam should be ashamed for letting this scam game stay available for purchase. Don't give these lying thieves a single cent of your money.
I helped Kickstart this game and it's been a long time in development sense that time. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a "scam" like some others but it's clear these developers don't have the talent needed as a team to reasonably execute what they set out to and claim. What it boils down to right now is a group of college students that have some talent for sure but really no experience to make this something worth getting unless they spend another year on it, and even then it won't be anything like advertised. I would rate this lower than Dead State but with arguably better graphics based on preference. I also backed Dead State in Early Access. I guess for now the only people willing to attempt a game of this genre and scope (open worldish, zombie survival base builder rpg... that's not a shooter) don't have the combined team talent or resources to successfully execute it. They should probably aim for better game play, stylized (and simplier) graphics so they can focus on the things that really matter. There's a lot of areas to point out as undeveloped and missing if really needed to justify the down rating but even at this phase of the game there appears to have no real character screen where you can see any character Stats or Skills, whatever and this is a game advertised as characters with Stats, Skils, even Relationship Development. The closest thing is the Inventory menu.
Abandonned game after a successful Kickstarter. Wasn't delivered as initially promised, totally different game now. Devs grabbed the cash then deliver us a new buggy game probably made by two underpaid chinese dudes.
A MESSAGE TO STEAM This is not so much a review as it is a plea to steam but please take it as one. Please if you have any integrity remove this game from your store, it is an utter crime that after the developers of this game clearly abandoned this project literally years ago and even their own moderators have given up at this point it is still up for sale. This is a clear example of steam being unable to keep early access fair for consumers and does not advertise the platform well at all This game should not still be recieving money, It has not recieved an update in 2 years thats right 2 years, The devs themselves dissapeared a long time ago and have never communicated with the community The moderator they hired also gave up after pleading with them to release source code It is utterly unfinished and never will be To any prospective buyer DON'T To steam please start reviewing EA activity in order to protect gamers (you know the place your money comes from).
No update in over a year, not close to being completed, the moderator even says he's confused. Let's face it... sadly abandoned.
Adding this review so that people can hopefully save their money. I was a kickstarter backer, these devs have abandoned the project and it's really a shame it's still up on Steam. I dunno what the process is to get it pulled off Steam Early Access, but it's unethical for them to still have a platform to earn money on an IP which hasn't seen development progress in several years.
This game was dead before it was put on steam as an EA. Do yourself a favor and stay far, far, away or research the developer(s) before considering purchasing. The idea was great, but the game has not been patched for over 15 months and it never will be. If somehow the development team comes back then, and only then, maybe consider the purchase as this game could have been great. By the way, my hours on the game do not reflect the real time and investment. I was an original kickstart supporter and followed the user/dev discussions during that time. This is where my basis of trust (or lack there of) comes from.
No update since 2016 game feels bland, very empty. Don't even try it.
A good game with a lot of potential. Unfortunately, the devs have pulled a Houdini. No contact, no changes in about... eight months now? Or maybe it's only been seven, I lost count. But this length of radio silence is not really acceptable, and a lot of the chatter on the discussion thread during that time period points to them being fairly unreliable at best. If you want a game that's maybe 20% complete, then by all means, get it. Just don't be hopeful about it getting finished.
