The Last Man

Affordable and Straightforward Survival Horror Game

Worth trying
The Last Man is a Top-down shooter that features classic survival horror elements such as exploration of dark and hostile environments, an oppressive atmosphere filled with monsters, and resource management mechanics. Gameplay: Fun and humble horror game Art: Nice futuristic setting with interesting level designs Music: Immersive free library soundtrack and good sound effects
Gameplay
The gameplay is short but very engaging, with fast-paced combat and a visually tense atmosphere, accompanied by an eerie soundtrack which makes this modest game experience even more terrifying than it initially appears. The game maintains a simple progression system that consists of finding a key to open the level’s exit. This approach prioritizes the search for the key in each level, often encouraging stealth strategies to avoid enemy encounters, while in other cases forcing the player to fight enemies directly in order to advance through each area. However, the combat system can occasionally feel rough due to the lack of a more polished enemy hitbox. The variety of weapons is solid, and the limited number of weapons the player can carry is a well-designed mechanic that adds even more tension to the game. On the other hand, when a weapon runs out of ammunition, some backtracking is required to find a new one in order to keep progressing.
Art and World Design
The game’s setting is quite good and it features many different areas to explore within a military laboratory. Each area features a unique layout of narrow corridors, rooms, and dead-end zones that make the game more challenging.
Music and Sound effects
The Last Man uses an effective but sometimes repetitive soundtrack. However, it plays a key role in establishing the horror atmosphere the game aims to convey. The sound effect design is surprisingly good and diverse. Each weapon has a distinctive fire and reload sound. The sound effects also play an important role in building the game’s atmosphere while also helping the player determine whether they have been detected by the monsters and how close they are.
Very nice atmosphere, a mix between RE and classic GTA gunplay
Unforgiving but at easier difficulties you'll find lots of ammo, so no big deal. Also really love the sound design. I only wish there were more options for melee weapons.
