About

Our android starts his mission as a nameless, remote-controlled worker. He is supposed to collect information about a planet for his builders, the goal is the planned recolonization of the planet. He is commanded by an AI named AC-0209.
Thanks to an accident the remote control breaks and the android is able to make free decisions. Now he is no longer an empty shell for AC-0209, but its partner, which the AI absolutely does not please. Especially since the AI has no body of its own and is carried around by the android in a "multifunctional tool".
Now they try to complete the mission despite the adverse circumstances.
On his journey, the android encounters bizarre creatures such as moth cats, broccoli animals, flying stream rays, gigantic tentacle plants and other AIs that have remained on the planet for centuries without a task or purpose, which has made them, well, possibly a bit strange.
Little by little, the android learns about the history of the planet and its builders, and what it would mean if they were to take possession of it again.
The little android with the big head has to decide, does he want to be a tool of the builders or an independent individual?

An almost classic point&click adventure
Classic inventory puzzles, exploration, somehow quirky side characters? At this point, the comparison with popular classics like Monkey Island or Grim Fandango usually comes up, but we deliberately don't want to do that. Because although we have many elements of games from the good old Lucas Arts era, such as long puzzle chains or even the one or other quirky character (quirky characters on a deserted planet, how is that supposed to work? Be curious), we also find elements of modern adventure games, such as the lively environments of the Amanita Games works (e.g. Machinarium) or comfort functions, such as a hotspot display or optional help functions.
And no, there won't be any dead ends or player deaths either.
But enough of the comparisons, because our project also has one or two ideas of its own up its sleeve, which can be seen in our feature list:

The game is completely hand painted. Each character, each object and scenery is first analog painted with acrylic paint on wood, then digitized and optimized on the graphics tablet. This gives the game a completely unique look
An AI as a commenting and sometimes helping companion (but don't expect it to agree with everything you do and sometimes it can be a bit condescending).
A character that changes throughout the game: the journey that is the gameplay will leave its mark on our brave android.
A vivid environment with lots of hand-drawn background animations.
An hint system for adventure novices.
A lexicon that expands throughout the game and includes properties of plants and animals. This should not serve as a mere gimmick, but will be important in solving puzzles.
Over 70 hand-painted scenes and an estimated playtime of 8 to 10 hours.
The puzzles are well-made and not too easy, with a skip function that shows up in a handful of them as well. There is a hint system that aids the player along if needed for adventure progress. The premise of the game is interesting, as not is only the world wildly imaginative, the inhabitants are as well, including android characters who have set missions and purpose. Time and interactions with nature have brought about new meaning for these otherwise lifeless AI bots. Existential purpose and the forever elusive human concept of a soul is explored in this game as well. The artwork is absolutely stunning, and certainly some bizarre scenic screenshots can be found on the store page to browse. Everything was hand-painted on wood and further digitized for use in game. You can see all of the physical brush strokes and the integration into the game was done really well. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3285262365 While the game is not perfect, as some of the interactive pieces seem somewhat finicky and the game did crash on me twice, I did have a great time and the game seems to offer a bit more that I have yet to explore. Fortunately there are manual save slots and I have a few segmental backups to be able to go dig around other options without too much ado.
Gameplay
Classic P&C adventure. You can press space or corresponding controller button to toggle the interactive pieces of the scene, so as to not need to click everyone just to try to find out.
Controls
You can play the game using just the mouse. There may be a couple of buttons to use on the keyboard but they are optional. The game does support controller, which I did not test out.
Graphics
Amazing artwork, very original and creative, grotesque at times. An amalgam of bizarre art that fascinates the mind.
Music & Sounds
The music does phase in and out (especially if you get stuck in a particular area or puzzle). The sound effects are appropriate. Almost every animated action and reaction has proper association. Not "out-of-this-world" like the rest of the game, but also not unpleasant.
Audience
This game does require a decent amount of reading through the dialogue if you are playing in English. If you are playing in German, I suppose the audio adaptation may provide an more immersive experience. If you are requiring another language, then you are SOL (as of July 2024).
Pricing
Game's set price of $15.99 US is not unreasonable for a game of this magnitude that certainly took countless hours to put together. It's a true indie project done by a team of two. The gameplay is fairly standard and while a skilled puzzle solver may take not very long to run through the game, it took me almost 10 hours for my first play through. (Game's own estimate is 6-8 hours). Currently during the 2024 summer sale, it's at $11.99 (25% off), and that's quite reasonable. If you are not sure if it's truly something you want to buy, you can still try out the demo, which is the first chapter of the game. (Estimated play time is about 25-30 minutes.)
Conclusion
The Journey of AutUmn is a fun point-and-click adventure set in a whacky world that is completely hand-painted. This is a true indie project that deserves a bit more attention and support. The developer is very active and responsive to questions or concerns. The puzzles are interesting and well-made. Some bugs are present, but not hindering the player experience. Try the demo and experience it for yourself. Final score: 8/10
I received the product for free. Point and click game, graphic adventure, cartoon style, full of colours. PLOT The protagonist is a small Android, he is sent on a mission, his task is to collect information on a planet, to understand if it is possible to create an organized civilization that can live there. He does not have to tackle this task alone, he is guided by an AI called AC-0209. But the unexpected happens and due to an accident the remote control breaks, and so the Android is now able to make its own decisions, it is no longer obliged to obey AC-0209. The little Android lands on the planet and on his exploratory journey encounters strange and bizarre creatures: moth-cats, broccoli-animals, flying races, gigantic tentacled plants, and other forms of AI abandoned on the planet. To carry out their mission AC-0209 and the Android will have to learn to become companions and collaborate together if they want to know the history of the planet and its builders. But all this knowledge will lead the protagonist to make a decision what he will do? Will he work for his builders? Or will he decide as an independent individual and leave the planet free? To you the choice!!!!!! PLAYABILITY What is immediately striking is the hand-drawn graphics described as follows: "Each character, object and scenario is first painted analogue with acrylic paint on wood, then digitized and optimized on the graphics tablet. This gives the game a completely unique look" Simple gameplay you only use the mouse to explore, the puzzles are mostly based on collecting objects, sometimes combining them together and using them in the right way. There is a button that indicates the active zones, and a system for receiving suggestions. The advice is a beautiful adventure full of many well-measured ingredients, there is the plot, exploration, dialogues, puzzles, strange encounters, a bit of humor, and a pinch of madness!!!! An amazing puzzle adventure ! We accompany Autumn, originally a cleaning bot, on a strange trip through a colorful world full of other bots, plants and animals, we even win the trust of a small Felido, who will be our pet. Our way through this beautiful world we have to solve puzzles, but a lot of steps as such are challenging. In the end, we find the ship, from which we had 'fallen' in a landing capsule. There lies the last challenge.. and this is best to experience oneself ! Highly recommended, don't miss this game
The Journey of AutUmn erblickt?
I had already played the demo last year and was very excited to see what else would await me in the full version. I'm currently about 5 hours into the game and that's my impression so far: Graphics: You can already see it from the screenshots, the graphics are really unique. The individual scenes look like individual paintings that you can move through. And there are little details to discover everywhere. Really great. Gameplay: The game really plays like a classic point & click adventure. The puzzles have always been logical and I would rate it as average in terms of difficulty. Story: At first I thought the story was more of asecondary matter, but it seems to be slowly unfolding and slowly gaining momentum. I'm very curious to see how it continues. Scope: I'm now about 5 hours into the game and I don't have the feeling that I'm already approaching the end. On the contrary, I've only just arrived in a new large area where there's a lot to do and discover. Conclusion: I was actually expecting a little snack for in-between and am quite amazed at the scope, all the details and the wealth of ideas that await you here. I'm very excited to see what happens next. If it doesn't put you off, if a story is more of a slow burn, then this is a clear recommendation. For me, it's my positive surprise of the year so far.
