About
On Sunday the 7th of March, 1936, a group of locals made their way up the long, muddy track to Galley House. As far as any of them knew, the house had stood empty for decades.
Inside, they discovered the bloody aftermath of something horrific.
The authorities were summoned, and the crime scene was eventually cleared away. But nobody ever figured out what happened that dreadful night. It seemed likely that no one ever would.
Now, many years later, you have access to a peculiar machine — one that lets you listen in on echoes of the past. Can you piece together the events behind The Incident at Galley House?

found 'type help' in a reddit thread some weeks ago and lost my tab and with it my progress. this is when i learned this adaptation was only days away from release. just finished my playthrough and must say i really enjoyed it. i especially found the third act quite satisfying. 4.5 stars from me
Evil Trout has done it again! When I finished playing Roottrees last year (my personal GOTY 2025) I immediately signed up for their newsletter to keep tabs on any upcoming games. The wait is finally up for The Incident at Galley House and my god was it worth it! Another absolute banger. The creativity and thoroughness of this game is perfectly well crafted. The story is brilliant and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Just next level! Could not stop playing!! Highly recommend.
A clever and inventive detective mystery, with a plot and reveals that will keep you hooked from plot point 1 to the end
Very much in the vein of The Roottrees are Dead, but with unique spins in the story telling and player interaction, as well as updated presentation. A great game for anyone interested in a mystery, who doesn't mind getting stuck every once in a while- for the reward of connecting the dots you had once overlooked.
Pros:
• A great and compelling narrative with twists and turns you can piece together before the game reveals them to you • Great voice acting • A unique system of discovering scenes that mostly ensures you're getting there through genuine comprehension and not just brute force • A hint system readily available for use in game, that gives tiered hints for when you get reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllyyyy stuck, and doesn't punish you in in any way for using them.
Cons:
• Towards the end of the game, some of the games rules/mechanics that it's set up and have been consistent for 75% of the game seem to fall apart, for the sake of shaking up the narrative • Some of the connections in the last section of the game are really unclear • The final puzzle also works around some rules that are unclear in their operation
Quality of Life:
• After beating the game, from checking the trophies I found out
that apparently there's a mechanic for marking when people die on the timeline, which I never knew or saw pointed out in the playthrough.
Having something that indicates this is a mechanic would have been helpful to keep track.
Summary:
I beat this game in one sitting. That wasn't the plan for the day, but it sucked me in so strongly that the rest of the world needed to go on hold for a while. There's a few points that could be smoothed out, but I would really be nitpicking to pretend that they brought down what a wonderful experience this one. A good kick in the pants that the mystery video game genre has needed for a long time for rewarding actual puzzle solving, and not just putting the square peg in the square hole.
Puzzle game of the century incredible writing incredible voice acting and genuinely existentially terrifying plot
Fantastic mystery game, the methodology to uncover the plot can get tricky at times and certainly asks of you to pay attention, take notes. But the outcome is quite rewarding. Great to play solo or with a friend!
A fun detective puzzle game which will scratch that Roottree/Obra Dinn itch. Definitely worth the price of admission.
If you enjoyed roottrees are dead, you’ll enjoy this too! It’s a similar gameplay loop. Also gives vibes of the seance at Blake manor (play this too if you haven’t!) I’m almost 4 hours in and I’m sad I have to go to bed for work tomorrow. Excited to see where the story goes!
fantastic game
Wonderful mystery game that's already spawned a handful of amazing homages. Worth it for any puzzle lover, and brings in surprises for fans of the original text-based game.
