controls are a bit jank but all of the puzzles are telegraphed somewhere and you never have to go far to find the relevant solution....even if it's solid at the end
I purchased this game while it was deeply on sale and about the cost of an order of fries. I wish I had gotten the fries. To be fair, half of the problems with the game stem from the fact that it was obviously designed to be played on a tablet. The port does not provide proper affordance for desktop play and we continuously ran into issues between the exactness of a mouse versus the fuzziness of a touch control. Hit boxes often failed to register and, out of my ten hours of play time, at least an hour of that was spent on puzzles where I had identified the correct solution, but buggy hitboxes were preventing the parts from moving into the correct place, convincing me that it was impossible to achieve exactly what I was meant to be doing. Granted, even on tablet, there is very little plot tying the puzzles together. While these types of puzzle games will never have as dense of a narrative as something like Baldur's Gate, a good puzzle game can tell you a great deal about the world that your in through the puzzles themselves. The House of Da Vinci does not seem particularly interested in much world building beyond "Da Vinci invents things", "He likes locking keys behind other keys", and
"The templars have sent an assasin to steal his time machine" (not actually the Templars, but the game does feel like a surprisingly canon accurate Assassin's Creed 2 fanfic).
There's also multiple "puzzles" that exist simply as filler, introducing extra tedious busywork to pad out the gameplay. One particular puzzle I had initially believe that I had failed to complete, but I eventually found that I just needed to redo the same puzzle twice in a row before I could progress. Granted, much of this tedium might be better if the hit boxes functioned properly. I really don't want to be mean here. If you can get this on a tablet, and on sale, then it might be a nice distraction during a long plane/bus/car/train ride. Beyond the hit box issues, we experienced no serious bugs and the graphics maintained a steady frame rate. However, the same ground has been covered better by other games, so make sure that you've played those first.
