The Hand of Glory - The Blowtorch Files
„The Hand of Glory” und Ausblick auf “Roots in the Sky - The Hand of Glory 2”: Hier der Link zu meiner Review zu „The Hand of Glory”:

 The Hand of Glory
Zu “Roots in the Sky - The Hand of Glory 2” gibt es bereits eine Shop-Seite hier bei Steam. Das Spiel soll im 4. Quartal 2023 erscheinen.
Genre
Ein Point & Click Adventure in einem Chat Programm (ähnlich wie z.B. Emily is Away)
Story
Achievements
+ Kostenlos + Gute Story + Nette kleine Rätsel + Achievements
Fazit
This is a short prequel to the game Hand of Glory and you will play as the assistant of private detective Lazarus Bundy helping him with a case by solving all kind of mostly simple puzzles. There is one puzzle that requires you to find some info online like for a ARG, but other than that one, you will be given everything you need to figure it out in-game. The game plays as a text adventure presented as an online chat between you and Lazarus. It was quite a fun read, and I just regret it ended too soon. Now, I have to wait for the HOG sequel... If you havent already, you should definitely play the main game. It is a fun and thrilling PnC game with really great art!
Unplayable. This is an entirely text based game apparently communicated via some sort of text messages. The developer very, very wrongly thought it would be a good idea to make the text appear as if the person you are communicating with were actually typing out texts to you. So in the brief time I tried to play this before giving up, the large majority of my time was spent staring at a screen that said "Is writing ..." waiting for a few words of text at a time to finally appear on screen. It's a ridiculous waste of the player's time.
This is a short and fun introduction to the world of The Hand of Glory, which is in my opinion one of the most underrated modern adventure games. Chronologically, The Blowtorch Files is a prologue which takes place immediately before the first scene of the main game, and includes no spoilers for the main game. Therefore, I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in maybe playing the main game at some point as well as people who have already completed the main game and are looking to briefly revisit the game's world. While The Hand of Glory is a point+click adventure, Blowtorch Files is a text adventure that somewhat reminds me of Nightingale from the Shadows of the Vatican series. In Blowtorch files, you are assisting the protagonist, a detective named Lazarus Bundy, via a text chat, as he begins to investigate a serial killer. Along the way, the game will present occasional puzzles for you to solve. These puzzles are pretty simple, but some may require using the internet to research the answer, chinatown-detective-agency-style. If the text moves a bit slow for your taste, you can speed things up considerably in the options menu. I recommend this. All in all, The Blowtorch Files is really short, and it doesn't have the time to really communicate the strengths of the main game, which has great characters and really executes equal parts mystery, humor, and drama with considerable skill. But it's still a fun dip back into that world for me, and it's FREE, so thanks for making this, Madit.

Maybe this is a good game maybe it is not but I'm pulling out my hair waiting for the imaginary character texting me to type his lines.
My first review of the year! Last year was quite busy and this was the first full game (sans demo) that I've played and completed in months. I got a bit of extra time and just wanted to play something short and satisfying but with a bit of a challenge before going to bed, and this filled some of that craving. I would say though that this is not like a satisfying snack where I don't feel like I want anything else, but it's more akin to an appetizer where I feel somewhat satiated but I would like to keep playing something similar or at least related. This is quite different from The Hand of Glory. That one was very fleshed out in terms of story and gameplay. It was very much the classic point-and-click game set in various locations, has voice acting, and includes lots of movement and animation. Meanwhile, this one is set within a chat window, has no voice acting, and is mostly static. (Think Emily is Away in terms of UI and achievements.) The chat window UI is a big feature and lends to the three main things I wanted from this game: simple, short, and perhaps most important: easy achievements. You can actually finish this game in less than half an hour. It only took me over two hours because I was grabbing all the achievements and I let it run while I was doing other tasks. As a prequel, this game showed references to characters in the main game, but I think it actually did not explain nor expand much in terms of backstory. The mood for this one also seemed a bit more sombre. There were still touches of humour, but the main character is somewhat more serious. Comparing them this way might make it seem like these are cons for this game, but I mostly mentioned them to set expectations for anyone who might be looking for similar gameplay. They are very different. I actually find the differences refreshing! I recommend this game if you'd like something short and simple. It's free so you won't lose money in case you don't like it. It's also short enough that I think I actually spent more time writing this review than playing the game.
