Reviews
The Gurgling is a psychological horror game where you explore certain locations such as a home, dungeon, park, forest, and prison. I spent 2.5 hours in the game and could not complete the park level due to the game being a complete unpolished buggy mess. What a waste of time. + Some of the puzzles are somewhat creative. + Some of the music is soothing to listen to. - Your character walks / slogs around as slow as a turtle and there is no run button. - The save system is atrocious. The levels are about 30-45 minutes long each. There are typewriters like in the Resident Evil games where you can save, but they are almost completely useless. You do not keep any of the items you find when loading a save. I'm not sure if this is the developer's intent, or a bug, but it is super frustrating to collect a bunch of items, save, die, and have to repeat 30 minutes of slogging around slowly to regain everything again. - The game has graphics from 1991 and my computer was stuttering constantly and getting massive frame rate drops to single digits. - The level design is a complete joke, very amateurish. Anyone have a laundry machine next to their toilet? The dungeon level is super bland. - There is no logical sense to any of the levels. Heres a house, heres a park now, oh now heres a dungeon... Why release a game in this state? and price it at $12.00? Wow. Stay Away. Overall: 2.5/10
The Gurgling is an independent psychological horror title from Brainrot Entertainment that aims to create fear through uncertainty, atmosphere, and psychological tension rather than relying on constant action. Built around a mysterious phenomenon that begins with an unsettling sound, the game slowly transforms a seemingly simple investigation into a disturbing journey through fractured realities, hidden memories, and creeping paranoia. It is a horror experience that values mood and suspense above all else, drawing players into a world where every strange noise and shadow feels significant. The game's story revolves around a growing sense that something is fundamentally wrong. What starts as curiosity soon develops into an obsession as players search for answers behind the strange occurrences surrounding them. The narrative unfolds gradually through exploration, environmental clues, and scattered discoveries rather than lengthy exposition. This approach allows players to actively participate in uncovering the mystery instead of simply watching events unfold. As more pieces of the puzzle emerge, the line between reality and illusion becomes increasingly blurred, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty that remains compelling throughout the adventure. Exploration forms the core of the gameplay. Players move through a variety of locations filled with clues, items, and environmental details that contribute to the larger narrative. Progress often depends on observation and problem-solving, encouraging a careful pace that suits the game's psychological themes. Rather than overwhelming players with combat encounters, The Gurgling places emphasis on investigation and survival within hostile surroundings. Every new area feels like another step deeper into a nightmare, with the environment itself becoming an important storytelling device. One of the game's greatest strengths is its use of sound. Audio plays a central role in establishing tension, and the developers clearly understand how effective sound design can elevate horror. Strange noises echo through empty spaces, distant disturbances create unease, and moments of silence often feel just as threatening as louder sequences. Players frequently find themselves reacting to sounds they cannot fully identify, which helps maintain a constant feeling of vulnerability. The title's namesake becomes more than a simple sound effect; it evolves into a persistent source of dread that follows the player throughout the experience. The visual presentation complements this atmosphere effectively. Instead of focusing on graphical spectacle, the game prioritizes creating unsettling environments that encourage players to question what they are seeing. Dimly lit corridors, abandoned spaces, and strange environmental details contribute to a feeling of isolation and discomfort. The world often appears familiar enough to be believable while containing enough abnormalities to keep players on edge. This balance helps the horror feel psychological rather than purely supernatural, making the experience more immersive. Another notable aspect is the game's pacing. The Gurgling adopts a slow-burning structure that steadily builds tension rather than delivering immediate scares. New locations introduce fresh threats, mysteries, and environmental challenges, helping maintain momentum throughout the campaign. The gradual escalation of events allows suspense to develop naturally, making later revelations and encounters feel more impactful. Players who enjoy horror experiences that emphasize anticipation will likely appreciate this deliberate approach. The game's estimated length provides enough time for its central ideas to develop without overstaying their welcome. Multiple areas, hidden details, and environmental storytelling elements encourage exploration while reinforcing the overarching themes of fear and uncertainty. The progression feels focused, with each new discovery contributing to the sense that players are uncovering something dangerous and deeply unsettling. While the game succeeds in atmosphere and psychological tension, it may not appeal equally to every horror fan. Those seeking fast-paced action, frequent combat, or constant jump scares may find the experience slower than expected. The emphasis remains firmly on immersion, mystery, and emotional unease. However, for players who appreciate horror built around exploration and narrative intrigue, these qualities become some of the game's greatest strengths. Ultimately, The Gurgling delivers an effective psychological horror experience that understands the value of restraint. Through strong environmental design, unsettling audio, thoughtful pacing, and a mystery-driven narrative, it creates a world that feels consistently oppressive and memorable. The game demonstrates that fear does not always require overwhelming threats or graphic imagery; sometimes the most disturbing experiences emerge from uncertainty and the feeling that something unseen is waiting just beyond perception. For fans of atmospheric horror and slow-building suspense, The Gurgling offers a compelling descent into darkness that remains engaging from beginning to end. Rating: 6/10
