This is a 2D adventure/platformer art piece masquerading as a video game. The story is grim and focused on uncomfortable psychological disorders, resulting in a dark and unpleasant "art-not-game" experience. Usually these games are extremely lazy in terms of implementation but here I'm at least happy to say that while the pen scribble textures look lazy, they do provide a decent visual experience. The game does display in 4K, although the controls are fixed, so this won't be playable for people with international keyboards. Fixed controls do disqualify this for a recommendation for that reason. But the technical implementation is not really the problem here. The problem is that Steam is for video games, for fun, not for "art" pretending to be a game. This certainly isn't fun to play, it's dark, unsettling and confronting, so how could I suggest that gamers should buy this to have fun playing it? I think this game illustrates the point that the artists should stick to doing the art for the games, not take over the whole show.

NO. Solo perchè un gioco affronta tematiche pesanti non può essere automaticamente perdonato per le sue carenze in ogni altro aspetto.
Unique experience that shows games can be about more than just fun - very (!) good sound - amazing illustrations - meaningful story Perhaps strange at times, but overall the concept fits the topic well. Unless you are not at all into puzzle platformers, this game is recommendable.
The Guilt and the Shadow is a game I purchased solely on the strength of the graphics and promise of atmosphere, and I couldn't have been more pleased in these respects. The world, while rather low-poly and comprised of sprites on different layers to suggest depth, are beautifully lit and imaginatively textured through idiosyncratic scracthy pen marks. The audio design is also wonderful and creates the dark atmosphere that is necessary for this type of story. However, I could not recommend this game based on pure gameplay. It's a very simple, somewhat tedious puzzler that requires your character to traverse areas back-and-forth to push blocks and climb ladders. Although that might sound awful, the visuals are worth checking out more than once, removing the dullness of backtracking. The Guilt and the Shadow is likely to be a game that I'll return to once in awhile, just like a good movie.
You should play this game when you're relaxed, else the movement speed and the puzzles based on walking will annoy you. But it's not so bad that it becomes really tedious either, Besides that, it's a nice gloomy and atmospheric game which can be finished in about two hours.
I liked this game, but in order to recommend it, I'd also advise you really know what you're getting into. Someone compared it to Neverending Nightmare, and I'd say that's a good game to liken it to. It's mostly walking around solving simple puzzles, but the ambiance is good. So as long as you like this sort of thing, go for it.
Cool art style and story line
Good game.
This game is so boring, I became an alcoholic and heroin addict; all in just 2 hours... GOD ALMIGHTY, is this one senseless, boring mess! I seem to have nerves of steel to get through this sorry excuse of a "game". Just stay away, no need to even thank me! Oh, on a side note: if you wanna quit the game it stops responding... so really the only way is to rage-quit. How fitting!
