I will definitely recommend this visual novel to any person out there and those who want to try something new. The substantial message conveyed in the book I think is beyond the developer's religious beliefs but more on the importance of one's choices that adds up in time and makes the person. It is not your typical game on steam and I think the price is very affordable. You can say you paid for something worth reading and your money won't go to waste as it inspires something well within you.
inspiration to all youth and all people stuck in a struggle. This novel is a good outlook on the life of crime, and where it leads you, but also how to avoid these things and have a strong mind in the name of jesus christ. i really enjoyed reading every moment of this novel dark gritty and true to life great over view of crime and youth sure will read it again and i recommend it to others, its sure is worth the small fee for such a positive read and inspiration to others and positive guidance so it defo gets my full support. god bless and amen. Thanks
The author paints a very detailed picture of the scenes and life around Goldtooth. Being that I grew up in a big inner city, the story hits home and unfortunatly is easy to relate to. I found this to be a good read.
''I believe that I understand gangs better than others. Because they're formed out of necessity. They're formed by people to keep from being suppressed.'' - Jack Bowman Before I get into this review I should mention this is NOT an anime visual novel and, even though this is fictional, it is also not a fantasy story being told so if you're seeking that then you're in the wrong 'hood as it contains Drugs, Violence and Gang references MB aka FRANK has developed a text-based kinetic novel using stock-photo backgrounds and royalty-free synth music onto Unreal Engine to create his first venture with the purpose of spreading a message of Hope centred around a young teen lifestyle that spirals into wrong decisions from day one on the streets. The story is gritty with a direct eye whizzing us around while hurling graphic snapshots of Manchester UK street-gang life as if from a drone in the sky. We are verbally shown glimpses of the teen protagonist, Goldtooth and his life lessons within the estate territories dominated by a Drug Boss named Rhino. The fictional story is over 4 brief chapters and reads very realistic, almost like a biography, as it recounts very directly the teen to adult world of Goldtooth right up until his redemption. The writing succeeds in graphically describing that lifestyle & the paths it can lead many teens to end up in through gang activities but it is also with a strong message to show no matter how bad your life decisions may be there is a release and a way out if you find the courage, the mindset and the faith to stay true to your new beliefs. From the start it is clear this is a first time release that I genuinely feel with some polish & work can be improved to showcase what was originally intended. The biggest issue I found was the choice of program, which is normal as there is no set pigeon-hole programs assigned for set genres, but the biggest progress this could make is transitioning to a program that benefits Text based and/or Visual Novels. There are many programs out there to choose from and plenty of Free games to experience to gain examples of what each software can offer or be presented as in comparison to the choice made for this release. Looking at some Developer's game release library can also show the huge progresses made when first experimenting using the similar stock photo approach and text base that is seen here so, like everything, it is a stepping stone process - an ideal example would be Ebi-Hime whose early releases looked much as this does but as it used a better suited program it was able to visually provide what I feel lacks here - Menu controls, music & option settings and a return to Menu upon story completion at minimum. The controls for advancing the story are Right-Arrow key that shows a black bar with GO which you either mouse click or hit Enter key for the page to load to next screen. There is no Save option but the story takes less than an hour to read so it isn't an essential. The story has regular adult graphic references to gang life & more but there is warnings in place at the start of the story beforehand. What may deter others is the Bible quotes but I think it is fair to say they are purely used to get a message across in decisions made towards the finale as well as helping show the mindset change of the protagonist in attitude and beliefs. There was an unexpected reference to health supplements & sweeteners but, since Goldtooth life centred around fitness, body-health & training it did make sense and was an interesting mention though I think any references from websites etc would've benefited this useful section. The price of the game is where some Gamers may have second thoughts especially as there are many VNs & text-based stories on Steam that are lower than this or even Free. Personally I think, as said above, it may be worth spending time improving on this if the Dev wants to keep a price tag. Overall, I have to respect & admire the dark story told here and its redeeming message which is the diamond in the rough to this first time release by the Developer and I hope this constructive advice is worthwhile. ~~~Liked what you see?
i really liked the theme the gritty story and the pictures and music. i also liked how it shows a path of crime , the consequences of crime and the harsh punishment, and the realisation that you end up in only a few places , prison for a long time or dead to crime and gangs. i only can speak for the new 2025 upgraded release as i only purchased this when it became back available in steam store. i also like how the story can show you there is a way out, i think this novel was a good novel, its the only thing i have seen on steam that brings home reality to the young teenagers who a are groomed in to crime or drugs. in all it has very positive message in todays age and warning other young men could take a note out of. some people say computer games are bad and a waste of time , but this novel was very educational. i am glad this novel was put back on steam store i had it in my wish list for ages, it was worth the wait. i will defo let my son have read of this and i also think he will enjoy the gritty theme and tunes but also that he will learn a vital lesson in life. about the friends he thinks are his friends , were it may lead him.over all this book novel is the most positive with clear strait to the point inspirational and most positive message.
Not a Visual Novel
I was asked to review this but sadly this is not a visual novel its just text. What is contained in the text is not good enough to make you want to read this story. It is basically just narration. Nothing really grabs you in. Goldtooth just decides to change his life around. Okay. There is no emotion or character to make this story interesting not worth the price even on sale. UPDATE So there was updated to this but the same criticism still apply. Its just long boring text the written should engage you but it doesn't. VERY BORING. Plus the update helped me notice the many grammar and spelling errors. my advice to the author is to make it interesting if they want to spread the word to Christ. Pics will explained the text better https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2238430417 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2238430594 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2238430757
Follow Far2close - Visual Novel Playthroughs Curator Page The_Good_Book_VN Developer: MB aka FRANK Publisher: M byrne, FRANK Pros: 1. It formats similarly to a fable, with a message in mind for the reader. Sporting with enough detailing to get a hold of Goldtooth's surroundings and upbringing. Neutrals: 1. There is a heavy emphasis towards Christianity, this may deter some people. 2. This does not classify as a visual novel, it stands more of a text adventure or mini ebook. Cons: 1. The pacing feels quick, with several time skips to keep the story going. 2. The story is a timely told former criminal who changes his life for the better, but this isn't executed very well as it feels like a generic telling of someone's life. The characters aren't very compelling or interesting to look into. (Notable real life examples can be former jewel thief Larry Lawton or former mafia capo Michael Franzese.) 3. There can be a repetitive use of words that can be replaced with different sentence variety or a differently worded segment. Example: Instead of repeating "crack, smack, etc." it can be bunched all into the words "hard drugs". The first 2 instances are fine, but later on you don't have to keep stating which drugs as the reader will already know which ones you are referring to. There are also many misspellings or wording issues. 4. The music repeats when continuing to the next page. Conclusion: The Good Book VN feels similar to a fable as it has a message for the reader, but the pacing does feel fast as there are frequent time skips. There are ways to properly tell stories utilizing morality, but this does not hit the mark. With a more fleshed out story and some more care into it, it'd be enough to accomplish the desired effect. It also has a heavy emphasis on Christianity so please do be aware if it does not suit you. Score: 2/10 NOT RECOMMENDED
