About

Think you know the Christmas story? Did you ever watch and wonder about it? Did you ever consider it deeper? How about ask questions to which no one could answer? Or perhaps, have you gotten bored with the same old classic story that has been told each year?
Set in the first century, The Father's Story is a visual novel which explores the story of that night from different perspectives of people who lived it in the first century. Breathing new life into it and showing there is more to find between the lines in scripture.
Do you have to know those to enjoy it? No, not at all. In fact, do you have to be a Christian to enjoy it? Of course not!
It is merely a tale centered around a young shepherd boy who has had a hard life and how his life is forever changed during the events of this night. It also poses the question of:

The stories told in the bible gospels around the night of the birth, are somewhat brief and do not go into a lot of detail. This is where The Father's Story comes in and looks at the potential tales that could be had with just regular people living it. How one thing led to the next, which led up to the famous birth.
From the daughter of a local baker, to the Roman centurion handling the garrison. To the leader of the shepherds who walks the grey line, to an orphan who survives off thievery....and beyond!
Were Mary and Joseph really alone during the birth? What about all the angels that celebrated in the heavens, what were they up to? Did everything really go down without interference?
If you can think of other possibilities while you read this, this story is for you!

With around 50,000 words in total, our story is not too long, not too short, and branches based on the choice you make for our protagonist. Because of this, the course of his life could have various different outcomes that are linked to one of our heroines!
"You turned the birth of Jesus into a dating sim?!" No, not really. As with any story there can be a romance subplot and our story revolves not just around our poor protagonist but, also women who have positive impacts on his life. After all, those who walk beside you in life can have a great influence on you and help you.
We only branch it with multiple heroines because we want his story to be one about possibility, since that is entirely what we strive to do in the rest of the story. It is during these endings which you'll also get a glimpse of more possibilities involving other stories in the gospel narratives.

Unlike other visual novels where there is simple models and maybe a handful of expressions, all our characters take a page from our Dust and Air title and include full expression sets. This means that as the story progresses, you'll notice expressions change with each conversation.
While The Father's Story doesn't have a vocal dub (Yet), we want our characters to seem more real. Thus, we do extra work to provide expressions and we believe it's something that sets our work apart from others.
Is it worth it? You be the judge.
This title was started as a side project so we could test a new engine. During which, the story grew with time and due to the nature of it's content, we're not only going to keep the price affordable but also, keep it at one price as indefinitely as we can.
As far as sales go, we're going to run specials only during Easter/Resurrection weekend and Christmas. These will be more or less, giveaways to celebrate the holiday. About as low as we can go on Steam and free on itch. The Steam version is different as it has achievements.
Why are we telling you this up front? Why not?
We're a small team which contracts out to freelancers. Many of which, have never had their work featured in an actual game title. So, by keeping this affordable so more people see it, helps them and encourages them to keep growing their talent.
If this story ends up not being for you, then you aren't out much either. However, we hope you will enjoy it and follow our future developments.

This small visual novel has an interesting story more than half of it being a sensational retelling of Christs birth with obviously a bit of added elements following the story of Enosh As a game, at least the route i took, it is seriously lacking as a visual novel the first choice coming late into the game and the second and last choice coming soon after... As a story it is a pretty straightforward retelling with added elements with a clear pro-Christ message and anti-devil message...for its size i would recommend it as this story is still very beautiful specially for Christians...just get it on a sale i completed it in half a hour... There are different endings...though all i have seen end in a happy ending for the MC
The Father’s Story, developed and published by Broken Hammer Games, LLC, is a narrative-driven visual novel that approaches a widely recognized historical and religious moment from a more intimate and human perspective. Instead of retelling familiar events in a straightforward or purely reverent way, the game shifts its focus toward the lives of ordinary individuals who exist alongside that moment, presenting a story that feels grounded in personal experiences rather than grand, sweeping declarations. This choice immediately sets the tone, framing the experience as something reflective and character-oriented rather than action-focused or mechanically complex. The structure of the game revolves entirely around dialogue and player choice, with the story unfolding through a series of conversations, internal reflections, and interactions between characters. The central narrative follows a young shepherd boy whose life becomes intertwined with the events surrounding a pivotal night, but the story expands outward by incorporating multiple viewpoints. Through these perspectives, players gain insight into how different people perceive and react to the same circumstances, creating a layered narrative that emphasizes subjectivity and personal interpretation. This approach gives the game a sense of scale that extends beyond its relatively contained setting, allowing it to explore broader themes through individual experiences. One of the more compelling aspects of the game is its willingness to explore possibilities rather than present a single definitive version of events. It invites players to consider what might have happened behind the scenes, filling in gaps with speculative storytelling that adds depth to its characters and situations. This does not come across as an attempt to rewrite established narratives, but rather as an effort to humanize them by imagining the thoughts, emotions, and struggles of those who might have been present. For players open to this kind of interpretation, it can create a more personal connection to the story, as it encourages reflection rather than passive consumption. Player choice plays a meaningful role in shaping the experience, though it operates within a focused framework. Decisions influence relationships, character development, and the direction of certain events, leading to multiple outcomes that provide a degree of replayability. While the overarching narrative remains consistent in its themes, the variations in how events unfold allow players to explore different emotional paths and perspectives. This adds a sense of involvement, making the story feel responsive even if it does not branch into entirely separate narratives. The presentation supports the game’s emphasis on character and emotion. Illustrated portraits and expressive designs are used to convey subtle changes in mood and personality during conversations, helping bring the dialogue to life despite the absence of full voice acting. The visual style is clean and functional, focusing on clarity rather than elaborate detail, which ensures that attention remains on the writing and interactions. This approach works well within the visual novel format, though it also means that the experience relies heavily on the strength of its script to maintain engagement. Pacing is handled with care, allowing the story to develop gradually without feeling rushed. The game provides enough time for characters to establish their roles and relationships, creating a steady flow that keeps the narrative moving while still leaving room for reflection. However, the lack of traditional gameplay elements such as exploration or puzzles means that engagement is entirely dependent on the player’s interest in the story. Those who enjoy text-driven experiences will likely find the pacing appropriate, while others may feel that it lacks variety. Despite its strengths, the game’s narrow focus can limit its appeal. Once the main storylines and variations have been explored, there is little additional content to encourage extended play. The speculative nature of its storytelling may also divide players, as it leans more toward interpretation than strict adherence to familiar accounts. Additionally, the absence of more dynamic presentation elements, such as voice acting or complex animations, may make it feel less immersive compared to higher-budget visual novels. In the end, The Father’s Story offers a thoughtful and introspective take on a well-known subject, choosing to highlight the human side of events rather than their broader symbolism. It succeeds in creating a cohesive narrative experience that encourages players to think about perspective, choice, and the unseen aspects of history. While it may not appeal to those seeking gameplay variety or high production values, it stands out as a focused and sincere storytelling project that delivers a meaningful, if limited, experience.
