Sword Princess Amaltea - The Visual Novel

Well that was..sadly not that good. Pretty expensive for so little, i would not recommend this.

Excellent visual novel that goes beyond the usual dating sim trope and introduces a narrative gameplay loop instead. Fully voice acted which I find very enjoyable as it made me feel more connected with the story. The art is great as well as the story. Lot's of twists and turns which leads to several "Oh noes!" moments. With an average playtime of a bit more than an hour I felt it was a very nice amount of time for one playthrough. And with several different endings I can see myself doing another playthrough during a lunch break. Highly recommended!

It's a visual novel set in your typical fairytale medieval setting... but with the gender roles flipped. Women are the ones fighting and leading, while men stay at home (not always obediently, of course). Great for some light reading, and the voice acting is a nice bonus. The art style is a mix of shoujo and shounen. You can explore different paths of the story by playing as Amaltea or Ossian*. They're fairly likeable characters, and though Amaltea can be a little grating at times, she's got her moments. I appreciate the VN's efforts to be more diverse than other worlds like it. It's a little short for its price, so I recommend buying it when it's on sale. But if you enjoyed it, I recommend buying the comics too (and reading Egalia's Daughters). Would love to see a continuation of the story whether in comic or VN form. *or Amaltea's horse. [spoiler]You will meet a sad unicorn.[/spoiler]

Love this game, backed it on Kickstarter

A fun visual novel set in a slightly unusual fantasy world. Great visual and good voice actors that really contribute to the feeling of the setting. A single playthrough can be fairly short, but with several different paths and endings to see, there's plenty of replay value. Only problem was a few bugs where certain choices seemed to lead to the wrong scene.

This is very, very short, and not particularly good. I regret backing it on Kickstarter, since there really is no substance to this.

Sword Princess Amaltea is a wonderful game with high replayability. There are so many possible story lines that it takes a while to get to know them all. The Visual Novel is an adventure and fantasy digital game, in which the player gets to choose whom to play as: Amaltea or Ossian. This genderflipped satirical manga uses humour and adventure to challenge player to think critically over gender norms in our society. It’s one of my daughter’s favorite games, and I to love it so even if the prime target audience probably is female, the story is not just empty background gibberish and filled with an underlying message, it lands well in the, perhaps a somewhat surprising target audience, a middle age white heterosexual father. This is one of the games that we frequently play together, (it is a 1p game, but we pick the path together). I urge you to try this game and the world of Amaltea, there are both books and ordinary pen and paper role playing games to explore when you get hooked to this work. A fun fact is that this game was kickstarted and several of the characters are drawn to resemble the backers and some backers even do the voices to their characters. Love it!
