I did personally like this, but I could never recommend it to anyone. The movement speed is a killer, and not in a good way. I get that it's trying to build suspense, but at a point it just becomes padding that is only really serving to waste time. You don't have to take my word for it, since the puzzle repeat shortcuts and end sequence movement warp-aheads suggest that the developers noticed this problem too. The only other thing I didn't like was some of the puzzles with the flowers had very precise movement, but this isn't a big deal. Outside of that, I did really like most everything else. The neat concept, interesting story thread tie-ins, and the puzzles are all good. IMO, making the character speed significantly faster would make the game shorter, but it'd be a much more consistently good, gripping, and short game. Instead of now, which is a longer game with padded out backtracking/lots of time of dead air with nothing new or interesting happening.
Your Arms Are Missing
The ER: Patient Typhon is a atmospheric horror game where you as a young woman wakes to find that your arms are missing and monsters want a hug. Set in a hospital that's the love child between Resident Evil and Silent Hill, ER offers a simple and unique experience full of tense, disturbing situations and puzzles.
Positives
I genuinely really like the creature design. The general creature vibe made me reminisce about some of my favorite horror books, games and movies such as The Thing, Resident Evil 2 (the licker) etc. The sound effects and puzzles are very well done and fit exceptionally well with the games unique hand drawn style.
Negatives
I can only think of one: * The extremely slow walking pace.
Strange
* No pause screen * Esc closes the game
horror 100%
This would be a nice game... BUT... 1) The Esc key is not bringing the menu as manual tells you - it shuts the game (so there is no pause) 2) Game crushes sometimes 3) The main character is too slow - it's getting boring to just hold a button in the direction you need to go But the DLC SOS is even worse - it's so bug infested you can't even finish it. Seems like it wasn't even tested. Watch out for this devs. Overall: an OK game for a single play if you can get it with a discount or free
I want to praise this game, but honestly, the bad is getting very tiring for me for the good to outweigh it. This game is a slog due to how stingy it is with checkpoints combined with how slow the character is. The developers do leave some puzzles solved to make your progress a bit easier to recover whenever you die after them, but most of the time, rather than being able to get back into the action, you're having to walk for two minutes or more at points each time you die to recover your progress (add more time if you need to hunt for food which you need to pick up AGAIN). What's worse is you get achievements for dying a new way, so even though the developer is encouraging you to see all the death animations, the game still punishes you with more walking for doing so. Another issue is that if you hit the esc button, rather than getting a pause screen, a basic requirement of most games, it closes the game. Let's say you want to adjust some settings: That means you'll have to close the game, start it up again, then click options on the main menu. The game even says pressing esc will take you to the main menu, so even if the developers don't want a pause screen, the esc button still doesn't do what it should. I doubt this will get fixed, but if they changed the checkpoint system and add a pause screen, I'll change my review. Edit: Consider this score a thumbs middle. Despite my negative views, I did enjoy the tense encounters with enemies, the stealth, and the concept of having no arms. Also, the free dlc is good.
The slow pace was supposed to build suspense, but ultimately failed. It was so slow I wasn't wondering what would happen next, but WHEN something would finally happen. The slow pace mixed with some dream scenes repeating MULTIPLE times in a row, it fails to keep its initial creepy atmosphere going. The ongoing blurriness also gave me a headache and eventually, nausea. The story hooked me, but the game play is just not satisfying. If the pace was sped up, and the repeating scenes were less frequent, this game would've been on the top of my play list I'm sure
