The Empathy Algorithm

VN is rather short. Tries to make a bigger statement but hindered by the lack of content. Though content is does have is delivered quite well. Normally would mute VA in a VN but performances here were stellar. Also agree that transitions could be rather stuttery in need of some polish. Pretty minor complaint though. Very glad I gave this my time - all through the end credits. lol

A fantastic game well worth anyone's time. The writers and developers certainly knew what they were doing here.

The game itself is merely okay, I cared about it enough to get the 'good' ending which is something but otherwise... meh. You'll get an hours worth of amusement from it and it's free so why not. The credits were terrific though. Recommend playing, mostly for the credits.

A well written short story. The human/android dualism and philosophical questions about "artificial" life are a pretty common theme in sci-fi works, but this VN manages to be memorable thanks to its two protagonists.

Edit: Just noticed Steam isn't properly displaying the spoiler-sections of the review in the preview of the store page, moved that section further down so it's not immediatly visible. Volvo fix pls. The Empathy Algorithm is a neat little Visual Novel. Took me around 2 hours to try around for all 4 endings, can be done quicker if you keep track about what choices you make. What really wow-ed me and actually made me write down this review is the voice acting. The whole game is voiced and it's phenomenal. Especially the perfomance of Ji-jeon's voice actress (Lauren Pak) stood out for me, but all VAs did a really great job. Absolutely not something I'd have expected from a free game. Also, I saw another review talking about it and I have to highlight it aswell, the credits are awesome. Should have been voiced aswell ;) The story is fine, interesting but also not reinventing the wheel. I like the world it's building, I could see quite a few stories play out just from the glimpses we get from this little game ([spoiler] like, what's the companies goal with those androids? What happens to the Elin and Ji-jeon after the successful tests? How did Dr. Haldane end up there? How often can Adrian bring over coffee before realising everything is looping? [/spoiler]). I like that you [spoiler] basically end up in a loop until you reach the true ending, [/spoiler] so there is no hard need for saving on every choice like in other VNs. One thing I noticed though is that due to the game being fully voiced, the text speed slider in the options does nothing and will get reset to the default value whenever you go back to the options. That irritated me for a bit at the beginning, would have been better to just remove the slider from the options. Another issue I noticed is that the game isn't fond of using the skip functionality, towards the end of my play session I had some UI elements that wouldn't go away and characters wouldn't make it onto the screen anymore. Didn't really matter to me as I've seen those scenes a few timey by that point, but I feel it should be mentioned at least that this can happen. But ultimately, those are just a few hiccups that didn't have a lasting impact on the overall enjoyment I had with The Empathy Algorithm. I can fully recommend it to everyone who has an hour or two to spare.

interesting conceptually though some of the options fir dialogue felt a little limited probably for narrative or cohesion of store reasons its not a lite concept and i feel they did a pretty good job trying to convey some of the mental aptitudes fairly well

A very short visual novel about an experiment in which you need to find out who is an android or a human. Pros The GUI is very nice The premise is interesting and has a nice outcome the first time Cons: Game is very laggy, probably because of all the animations in the background. It is no fun to play it when there are so many lags and wait times. It is nice to have voice acting, but I personally found it a bit soso The premise is good, but the game is too short to make an impact. The ideas we see here are not really new. Overall, I recommend because it is free and you can make your own opinion.
