All it takes is just one little drop to enter the World of Dreams in The Dreamwalkers, where you will find magical creatures, fantastical worlds and dangerous nightmares.
The Story
You play as Morgan who has the ability to project himself into the world of dreams. In the world of dreams you can interact with others and possibly even have a romance. The story is split into two main branches with five endings in total and is shaped by your choices, so it is a choice and consequence driven narrative. Some endings will lead you down a bad path and others will force you to restart the story, while others lead to a more positive ending. I won’t go into details as to what the story is about, it will ruin your experience. But I will say the world of dreams, like in real life, is full of magical beings, fantasy elements and nightmares.
Gameplay & Features
Settings include; language options, dialogue size, and audio controls. To put your screen in windowed mode if desired just hit Alt+Enter and drag to resize. There is a CG gallery that unlocks as you play the game and save slots. The hud is very clean and the text very easy to read (white on a black background). Missing features I hope the developer can later implement into the game are text settings and more save slots. This novel has no settings for text speed or skipping seen text. With only three save slots you will be continually saving over older saves as you play.
The Visuals & Audio
There is one voice over, so to speak. You keep hearing a strange, eerie voice from time to time and it adds to the mystery of trying to figure out what is going on. But aside from that no other voice acting is present, and personally I do not mind when a game is not voiced. There are ambient noises added into the novel which are well done (water running, crowds murmuring, etc). The soundtrack is nice, instrumental and adds to the atmosphere of the story. I know some of the artwork (most noticeably the backgrounds) has used AI but in this novel it is not as obvious and the characters and the background complement each other both in a painterly look and color palette. There is the odd background which has had filters heavily applied to it that may look a bit out of place in spots but overall the meshing is well done. The characters themselves have a painterly look that is nice and also have facial animations. What I found interesting is all the CG arts in this game or what I call “special moments” are all the backgrounds. It would have been nice to see some CG art of the characters that highlight some of the moments in the game.
Overall Experience
Normally when I play visual novels I try to get all the endings to have the full experience the story has to offer. However in this visual novel, to be honest, the speed of the text for me is slow. I am a fast reader and multiple play-thoughs really need the ability to speed up the text and the option to skip seen text. I can forgive the lack of save slots if these other features were available. I did encounter more than one ending by saving at certain points and reloading my save files to see where alternate choices would lead. I experienced one ending that resulted in my death and one that did not accept my choice and automatically restarted a new playthrough. Both of these endings happened within the first two acts. The third play-through led me to a more positive ending and unexpected. It left me with more questions that maybe a second game in the future will expand on. The story is really creative and very well written, the meshing of the dream world and the waking world is interesting and fantastical. I loved all the characters and really enjoyed the narrative despite some of my frustrations. The added point-and-click elements are well done and the fact that your choices do matter make it a more immersive experience. 💙 Otome Lovers wishes to thank Nightbloomer Studio for providing a free review copy for this game. Teenager with pressure of dealing with family issues and trying to please everyone/fit in. This game feels like a mix of Narnia and American Gods book with the appearance of mythological characters. Scenes alternate between the normal world and the dream one. Various emotions are shown in the game including grief, anger, hope, acceptance, and courage. There are tough choices to make in the game and secrets are revealed about Morgan that change your perspective and understanding of his motivations and personality.
Pros:
- Different choices you make will affect the story and fate of certain characters. There are usually 3 choices and some key choices lead to a different story path. - Instrumental music is played throughout the story. It is played by an orchestra. - Each scene has detailed art in the world of Dreams and normal world. - Facial reactions for the characters change to match the emotions of the scene. - Appearance of multiple Greek or mythological characters.
Cons:
- Lack of speed up option for dialogue or auto play to reduce mouse clicking. - Characters motives not fully explained and how they know Morgan. More than 3-4 friends are introduced in the story, but not given enough dialogue to explain who they are and what they want.
Suggestions:
- There is an image gallery, but it's unclear what choices to make in order to unlock. After completing the game, it should give a hint of what choices are needed to unlock it. - Add a good or evil indicator choice so player can see how Morgan acts and the specific ending. - You need to play the game at least 2-3 times or reload to see different endings. Allow the player to load the game from any parts 1-5 if they beat the game once so they can get more achievements without restarting. [b] Conclusion: An interesting fantasy visual novel game. The ability to make choices to affect the story is the most compelling part of the game. Art and music complement the scenes and transitions from real and dream world are done well. If you want to get more achievements, player may need to reload from certain key choice branches. If you are a fan of fantasy or mythology books/visual novels, you will definitely enjoy this game.

Reminiscing my days playing visual novels and being drawn to worlds with intricate narration, I was excited to try The Dreamwalkers when I first heard about it in 2020! We follow the story of Morgan, a young adult who encounters a secret group that can enter the world of Dreams. I like the references to existing myths as well as the multiple interpretations of his journey. While some parts were a bit confusing, I found it quite enjoyable overall as it reminds me of adventure novels that I used to read, about young adults discovering a secret and trying to save the day with a group of friends. Like many visual novels, the game is text-based. In this one, you will get the chance to influence conversations. Your choices matter: they will unlock specific narrative threads or one of the several endings, though I wish my choices had more impact from the outset. The point-and-click gameplay is also a nice addition to the genre! However, I missed the lack of a log feature and the ability to skip texts, which I think is a must-have for this kind of game. These features would be helpful for quick readers wanting to revisit sections or for players looking to explore all endings in a second playthrough. The visuals, sound design and the music are great! They create a nice unique atmosphere which makes the experience much more enjoyable. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this game!
It's a beautiful game, the art is gorgeous, and the music awesome. The plot is tripe and feels like it's written by a pseudo intellectuel discord moderator. There are too many characters; too many forgotten plotlines, and too many weird concepts never followed up. The game mechanics is a damn crime. No auto click, and no ability to make more than one choice when answering, and if you click the "wrong" item, the scene just progress, and you can't go back. This means you miss out on a lot of stuff in your first playthrough. And I get the destinct idea that it's created for the purpose of multiple playthroughs. I don't want my mouse hand to fall off, clicking through 4 hours of game just to know what happens if.... Also there are only 3 save spots in total. And I think they jinxed themselves AF talking about mass effect; because from where I stand. the ending of this game is so lazy and nonsensical, that I have to question if those who praise this game, played it to the end. So damn sad; I really, really wanted to love this game. =(
