+ / - Technical side of this game. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -/+ A bit slow, repetitive and boring in the beginning, but later on it makes up for itself. + Unique hand drawn art style of the game. - Sound effects and character voices in this game are definitely not for everybody. + Music is very good and has a bit of Binding of Isaac feeling to it. + Gameplay changes drastically closer to the end making the game a lot less repetitive and a lot more enjoyable. + Overall game particle effects and screen effects are pretty good making the game's graphics even better. ++ The ending part is truly beautiful / amazing and made it all worth it for me, even got goosebumps.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Story and Game length. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * The story is about overcoming fear, shortly, from what i understood. * Very short but impactful. * Might have different endings, i am not sure. * At moments a bit chaotic and confusing but overall with the ending included it's a + for me. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Final opinion ------------------ * Definitely worth the price considering it was made by just one person and the game's + and -'s i listed above, also, if you get bored with the puzzles in the beginning (as i did) i suggest you to play it a bit longer, it gets ridiculously better as it goes on.

Incredible experience. Filled with tons of content, including little secrets along the way. 10/10 would recommend.
I love blackthornprod, I love his videos, I do not love this game. I was so eager to the release of this game, as I was a follower of his devlogs and looked forward to playing something a unity tutorialist created. From the beginning I wasn't a fan of the art, it looked like I could draw the whole game on my iphone with markup. I understand it was part of the games "charm" but I was not a fan. Next I will talk about the sound effects. I used headphones on my playthrough of the game, I was enjoying the music until I heard some of the sound effects. It was obvious he recorded them with his voice, they were also low quality which really clashed against the music. Next the gameplay, this was such a boring and dull game. I played for 15 minutes until I quit and forced myself to continue playing so I could see why the game was getting such high praise. There was the same, unpolished, black and white mechanic throughout the whole game(except the out of place shooting part). I beat this game in 70 minutes on my first playthrough. 70 minutes, let me wait for that to sink in, I dead like 4 times. Quite frankly, that was the longest 70 minutes of my life waiting for it to end. Blackthornprod's goal was to make how much? 100k? lol. These BTP fans must be brainwashed if the game is a 9/10. Story sucks, an advanced 4th grader could come up with it. Buy terraria if you want "replayability", same price. Disappointed, but whatever.
Its a fun game done by a starting developer. It has its own spooky simplistic style that is building the atmosphere. Puzzles are quite simple, but thx to the fact that its more like a series of minigames than one repetitive game it doesn't get boring before the end. The Dreadful Whispers bring a lot of interesting gameplay mechanics that I wished there was more time to expand on. In my opinion buy this game at full price only if you want to support this starting game developer. Otherwise try it out on sale :)
The game was great. The music was well crafted, the graphics were clear, and all the gameplay and movement felt great. The collectibles, to my dismay, did not do anything but are a really amazing indicator of what's left to do. It might be short but it looks like i can get a lot out of this. Great game, I have no major issues with it!
Overall: It's a beautiful, handcrafted game. The dedication does show from art, to the sounds, to the music. The theme of the game is very powerful and the way in which it is presented is very good. The levels are fun and enjoyable. Some of the puzzles really make you think, but nothing over the top. The game has amazing potential to really shine in the gaming space, but is gimped severely by it's technical problems which are very apparent from the start. Linux Support: The game will run on Linux based systems with Proton. The game also sometimes freezes upon Exit requiring manual termination. Technical Problems: The controls are awful. There is no dedicated jump key. This wouldn't be an issue if precision wasn't part of what the game required from you. Run/jump doesn't always respond, especially if you need to rapidly do it. The inclusion of the mouse in some areas really compounds this issue. Switching between characters is also awkward since it requires shift plus the above mentioned. Overall the controls/scheme is wonky and needs cleaned up. There is also no controller support, which could make the wonky keyboard setup almost forgivable. During the shooting area you have to continuously click left mouse button to shoot rather than being able to hold down the button to continue to fire. You also have to send your mouse basically to end of the screen to get it to shoot farther away rather than having the projectiles simply travel the full distance unless stopped by an object. This makes the whole shooting areas pretty uncomfortable to play in. Hitboxes are all over the place. This includes all objects. The scrolling in the auto scroller sections seems inconsistent and in need of tightening. It will start off super fast, but then slow immediately down for no reason. You'll have to control your character with your mouse which your character won't be caught up to causing input lag. Non-critical nuances: Intro always plays even if you have played the game before. This intro also comes before the menu which seems odd as being able to address the menu right away should be allowed before any gameplay is given. Can't seem to skip the intro 'slides' (ie...developer card/game title card). Recommendation Notes: I cannot in good faith recommend this game because of it's technical problems. A beautiful game with a good message won't be enjoyed if playing it feels awful. I found myself constantly just wanting to enjoy the game and not have to be annoyed at how things felt. I'm happy to change if the above issues are addressed.
I love the theme and graphical style, but ultimately The Dreadful Whispers suffers from unimaginative gameplay, awkward controls and low replayability. The game can be completed in 2 hours comfortably.
Pretty good game. For me, this was borderline a horror game. Sure, there weren't any jump scares or creepy artwork but it certainly had the atmosphere, characters and story from a horror game. + Superb atmosphere + Simple but great dialogue + Nice visuals + Great story + Decent replayability (For me: 2 play troughs - 4h) + Nice secrets and multiple endings - Mediocre gameplay (Simple puzzle platforming offering little new) - A few bugs - Only one saved allowed (Makes it tedious to do 100%) - One game mechanic has you collecting about 40 tokens that are spread out in the game. The tokens basically give you nothing and therefore serve as little more than a convoluted progression %. Note: The dev seems to have done a quite popular YouTube series on the development of the game, so I'd expect the reviews for this game to be biased.
The art is beautiful and it's very fun. The puzzles are challenging but not hard enough to make you rage. There are some minor bugs but none I've found that are major. It's definitly worth $2.49 but I can't see myself buying it for 10 dollars. But take that with a grain of salt because I don't buy steam games unless their on sale. I give this game a 9/10 would be a 10/10 if it had more content and fixed the minor bugs. This game is one of the best but is it really worth playing? Is it more worth learning a new skill or pursing a hobby? Yes if you balance it with everything else in your life. This game is amazing and I highly reccomend it!
Good game by a small developer this is his first "commercial" game, please see the video below to get an idea about game play, and I will give you the pros and cons below the video https://youtu.be/vCCX0TjUQzQ Pro's: Good Story Awesome Graphics Good music Single indie developer Replay value when trying to get all the stars or endings Don't play at night def some good horror parts of it Has Dev log on his site and tells how much he made on the game which I find interesting Con's: Game is a little short if you want to go right through it once Some of the puzzles are a little to easy Maybe a little pricey at 9.99 but since its a developer who isn't making a lot of money on this and its more of a passion for games I let it go and went ahead and bough the game
