It is extremely janky but in a charming kind of way. A 3d point and click adventure with some interesting dialogue options. I like a lot of what's going on. However, the parts where you type into the console don't seem to have any effect on the game. I also really wish there was some voice acting. https://youtu.be/lGuSL9-IzGI
The time I spent with The Detective Chapters: Part One mostly consisted of the playable character getting stuck on small objects I accidentally knocked over, trying the find my lost cursor, and physically writing down binary to solve a puzzle. That all came to a halt when the game got stuck 3 separate times on a day transition card reading "October 7th 2016". From the very little I got to experience, this game feels as if it's still a rough draft. If you decide to give The Detective Chapters a shot, you should do so in the ridiculously awesome early 2000's graphic setting.
The game asks you for a custom name. When you type one in, the game ignores you and uses the name it provided in the first place. That is the best part about this game. It is riddled with errors--coding and logic. It crashed on me twice. The interface would have been horrifying in 1996 let alone now. When you open the office door and look behind it, you'll see the door handle is on the wrong side. This is lazy by every single metric. Don't be fooled. Pass.
The Detective Chapters: Part One is a plodding interactive novel/first person adventure hybrid with adult themes. Take on the role of a detective and step through a needlessly micromanaged story as you do exciting things like:

Turn off your alarm
Rummage through your nightstand for cash
Check your email
Answer the phone
Take out the garbage
I already have to do that kind of thing myself, it's less fun doing it in a low poly, clunky first person adventure. I'm sure the story picks up at some point in time but I don't have 20 years to get through every minutiae of the game. The quality is pretty low, and while there's probably some kind of interesting story here, it's just too plodding for me to get into it.
Really enjoyed the overall story. Like the whole Goth thing that you got going here - loved those clubs back in the 80s and 90s. Except for a couple minor crashes that I was able to recover from that game is excellent and has promise. Wish there was more to the chapter but looking forward to the next!
First of all i really like the sory and the gameplay, however playing gets relly frustrating because i have to restart the game during every loading screen, i had 1 sucsessfull loading screen during the whole game, every other one just did not end even after waiting 20+ minutes, the pictures and text continued to change but it just would not load any further. After restarting the game it sometimes saved but mostly i had to play the same levels about 2-3 times in order to continue with the story, which was very frustrating but i really like the story and i wanted to go on with the game but now i hit a dead end, i cannot get past the screen that says October 7th, 2016, i have made those phonecalls like 20 times by now. You can select your name at the start of the game but that name does not show up during the game, it´s always the default Djinx Malone. The cursor is a little whacky and does not show up sometimes. I hope this can be fixed because i would like to continue the story.
For now, I advise against buying it is buggy without an end. Crashed 3 times in 2.7 hours of play. you get stuck everywhere long story short, if nothing is fixed don't buy so playing is not fun
very nice worth it
