It's very basic art style can get old quick but otherwise this is a fun little tower defense game. It's got a bit of customization to it, a few interesting enemy types, and a variety of things to use to help defend the castle. It's not an amazing game but for just a few bucks it's not a bad pick.
Hey, me and my freinds played this game when we were like 13. came back to play tonight and was as magical as we remember. Thanks fallen master. Much love.

It’s a very specific genre mash-up that tends to be used in free web games rather than games getting a full steam release, but to me, it’s one that has a lot of potential for a unique experience. Unfortunately, The Defenders is a lackluster example and does little to advance the genre. The game is plagued by clunky combat and unforgiving progression mechanics. There are 3 main paths you can take your character down, but attempting to create a jack-of-all-trades character that dabbles in multiple styles isn’t feasible. You can either be a builder, which is fairly similar to a traditional tower defense game, a warrior, which focuses on direct combat, or a mage, primarily using spells to defeat enemies. While each build is different, none of them are particularly interesting. My favorite was the builder, but it was awkward trying to play a tower defense game from a side-scrolling perspective. Due to the game’s money mechanics, you are given a finite amount of money with no way to replay levels for extra cash. This causes most playthroughs to end due to a single mistake, usually either because of a poor upgrade choice or building placement (when playing as a builder). The game almost becomes like a roguelike, but with no variation in each run. It’s a mind-numbing process and kills any desire I had to replay it. Overall, there aren’t many people that will enjoy this game, especially when there are much better games in the genre that you can play in a web browser for free. 2/10
Visit our website for more in-depth reviews and recommendations
This could be a good game for websites with flash games. But not for Steam
Horrible. Slow animations, slow controls, music sucks
This is me going gently on the game. Seriously.
2/10

Check out my curated list of games
just stop right now what ever your doing and play this game. if you have any fondness of really quick easy to play game like the games on kongergate get this game. its awsome!
The Defenders: The Second Wave is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This is a particularly badly made, sloppy 2D platformer/shooter/brawler with a few boss fights and things, the key interest is probably the advancement system which is welcome in any game, but in this case it's just wasted effort when getting the basics right... janky controls, sluggish gameplay, poor hitboxes, and terrible visuals... the list goes on. So let's get into it. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The artwork here is terrible, it's a blend of old retro pixel "art" used as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics, and some of the most amateurish MS-Paint style drawings I've ever hurt my eyes on. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget to arrange someone who can do graphics properly, or lack of talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result of these decisions. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The Defenders: The Second Wave didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for unlocking the games "Trial" mode, trivial to get, but less than 23 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. The Defenders: The Second Wave is relatively cheap at $3 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 9,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
My friend and I just had a blast from the past playing this! Thank you so much for this!
