First off I got it on sale for around 2.30 and yes it was worth the price. It is a wonderful tale about moral choices and also how making small every day choices can shape us. I loved the story it was well worth reading it, I even did not mine the voice over being in another language. Sometimes I find it too overwhelming and distracting to read the english subs when the voice over is not in english as well. I liked the concept of a split nation due to environmental crisis and how sometimes a king can have a "frog in the well" type of perspective. The character you are making decisions for also has their own emotions and desires. I did find it rather annoying that she was inlove with a... pick pocket that did not seem to have feelings for her as well? Not sure if it was something I could have changed but my ending was a decent one with both nations working together. All's well that ends well I suppose. I would like to add the diversity of races was and types of people in the story kept me interested. I would have loved to explore more connections with other people. The elves and orcs were really quite interesting but not only that. I would have loved to see how the mc developed bonds with other mages and even the witches.

The Day Before You Gone, developed by Aequalis Studio and published by Aequalis Studio together with Antelus Games, is a narrative-focused indie adventure that blends visual novel storytelling with light interactive gameplay and emotional fantasy themes. The game centers on a young girl who possesses mysterious magical abilities and finds herself confronting a devastating personal loss. Driven by grief and a desperate desire to change what has already happened, she begins a journey that blurs the boundaries between memory, destiny, and time itself. The story explores how a single tragic event can ripple through someone’s life and examines the emotional consequences of trying to undo the past. At its core, the experience is heavily narrative-driven. Players spend much of their time following the unfolding story through dialogue sequences, internal reflections, and character interactions that gradually reveal the protagonist’s circumstances. The game approaches its storytelling with a reflective tone, focusing on themes such as regret, responsibility, and the emotional burden of difficult choices. Rather than presenting the story as a simple fantasy adventure, the narrative leans toward a more introspective approach, inviting players to examine how the protagonist copes with loss and whether the power to alter events would truly bring peace. The gameplay structure largely follows the conventions of visual novels and story-focused adventure games. Players read through scenes, make dialogue choices, and guide the direction of the narrative through decision-making moments. These choices influence the progression of events and determine how certain relationships develop throughout the story. As the player advances through the game, different narrative branches open depending on earlier decisions. This branching structure creates multiple possible outcomes, encouraging players to explore different paths and discover how alternative choices shape the protagonist’s journey. One of the most notable aspects of the game is its multiple-ending design. Rather than offering a single fixed conclusion, the story can resolve in several different ways depending on the decisions made throughout the narrative. Some paths lead toward emotional closure, while others reveal darker or more uncertain interpretations of the protagonist’s actions. This system reinforces the game’s central themes about consequence and responsibility. Every decision carries emotional weight, and players are constantly reminded that altering the past may not always lead to the outcome they hope for. Although the game is primarily focused on storytelling, it introduces occasional interactive segments that provide moments of active engagement. These include simple quick-time events and small interactive sequences tied to important scenes. While these mechanics are relatively minimal, they help break up the reading-heavy structure and give players a more direct sense of involvement during key moments of tension or conflict. These gameplay elements are not meant to be challenging but rather serve as narrative tools that reinforce dramatic situations within the story. Visually, The Day Before You Gone adopts a stylized illustrated aesthetic that emphasizes character expression and emotional atmosphere. Character portraits are detailed and expressive, allowing subtle facial cues and body language to convey feelings that complement the dialogue. The environments feature fantasy-inspired landscapes with medieval influences, including quiet villages, magical forests, and mysterious locations tied to the protagonist’s journey. The art direction uses color effectively to reflect the emotional tone of each scene, shifting from warm and hopeful palettes to darker, more somber tones during moments of grief or tension. The soundtrack plays an important role in shaping the game’s atmosphere. Soft, melodic compositions accompany many of the quieter story moments, reinforcing the reflective mood of the narrative. During emotionally intense scenes, the music shifts to more dramatic arrangements that highlight the gravity of the protagonist’s choices. The sound design is subtle but effective, helping immerse players in the world while allowing the story itself to remain the central focus of the experience. One of the game’s greatest strengths is its exploration of psychological themes. The narrative frequently examines how individuals deal with guilt, loss, and the temptation to rewrite painful memories. Rather than offering simple answers, the story raises philosophical questions about whether changing the past truly leads to healing. The protagonist’s journey is filled with moral dilemmas where the desire to undo tragedy conflicts with the unpredictable consequences of altering time. This introspective approach gives the story emotional depth and encourages players to reflect on their own choices as they guide the character through the narrative. However, the game’s strong emphasis on storytelling also means that traditional gameplay mechanics remain limited. Players who prefer action-oriented experiences or complex puzzles may find the gameplay somewhat minimal. The pacing can occasionally feel slow during extended dialogue sequences, particularly in sections where the story focuses heavily on character reflection. Because the experience relies so much on narrative immersion, enjoyment largely depends on how engaged players feel with the characters and the themes being explored. Despite these limitations, The Day Before You Gone succeeds in delivering a thoughtful and emotionally resonant narrative adventure. Its blend of fantasy elements and psychological storytelling creates a unique experience that stands out among many indie visual novels. The branching paths and multiple endings add meaningful replay value, encouraging players to revisit the story and discover different interpretations of the protagonist’s fate. Overall, the game offers a reflective and emotionally engaging journey that emphasizes storytelling over complex gameplay systems. Its focus on grief, destiny, and the human desire to change the past gives it a strong thematic identity, while its visual presentation and music help create a compelling atmosphere. For players who enjoy story-rich adventures and visual novels that explore deeper emotional themes, The Day Before You Gone provides a memorable and introspective experience. Rating: 7/10
