About
An "indie gem" - a unique game based on the novel by screenwriter, Jake Stephen Jackson - brought to life in a brand new experience. Sven, Kate and Chariot are characters you will never forget as they join you on your quest throughout the Milky Way Galaxy to bring an end to the Progenitor War.
New! For game preservation purposes, we've updated the game to include the 'Director's Cut' materials, that was cut from the planned Remaster before we released REMAKE. Director's Cut is future proofed to run on Windows 11 24H2 and beyond by using Voodoo wrapper and we have replaced the incompatible engine that the original game was using before.
With whole new areas and cinematic animated backdrops that resemble the Remake, this is the definitive version of The Dawning Clocks of Time (Original).

This is the perfection of entertainment. F*ck what Obey the Fist! says, this game is a masterpiece. With such lovable, and memorable, characters such as Sven, Chariot, Kate, and even Moon, The Dawning Clocks of Time stands out as a pinnacle of story writing and video game development achievements. Not only is the game amazing but the book that it is based upon is a miracle in print as well and I am proud to have a first edition copy of what is sure to become a universally loved best seller. I can honestly say that I have never in my life read such a inspiring story before. I've edited my review because the original posting of this review contained a bug report that was instantly addressed by the developer and fixed before I knew it. I only wish that more game developers could follow in those footsteps! I recommend this as a 10/10 for everyone!
The Dawning Clocks of Time was supposed to be a hybrid retro pixel shmup, 2D adventure game and lightweight RPG with JRPG style turn based combat. It's none of these things, because the game doesn't work properly on the latest Windows 10/11 builds, the game controls don't function so you can't negotiate the menu or start the game. Not that you would want to, resolution is locked to something like 640x480 (don't laugh, it's true, these guys seriously published a VGA resolution game in 2021 and thought that would be okay). Resolution and controls are locked, and can't be changed or customised to improve the visuals or the control experience. A choice was made to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. These flaws push this game far below minimum acceptable standards for PC. For the huge, and somewhat insulting price of $15 USD for this broken mess, you'd think they'd at least bother with some software testing, but apparently not. Anyway, broken game, avoid.
Developer Response!
The developer has weighed in to inform everyone they didn't read the Developer Usage Rules for Steam "partners", or they deliberately ignored the part where Valve says:
Though it may be tempting, not every review needs to be responded to. A developer response will frequently draw more attention than the original statement, potentially turning a small issue into a much larger community discussion. It's also not a good idea to use this feature to refute customer opinions. Your direct attention can be seen as validation or a defensive attempt to silence your customers.
The developer requires, now, that reviewers perform software testing and QA for their faulty product, so they don't have to. How about no? It is not the role of consumers, customers, gamers and end users to do the job of failed software developers who don't bother testing their product properly. Hint for developers: If you don't want negative reviews, test your broken software before launching it on Steam. This is not a difficult concept. The developer then refuses to accept the facts and starts swinging away attacking their customers and blaming them for the flaws in their failed software. I wonder exactly how long the developer expects me to spend staring at their broken game that doesn't launch properly before telling other gamers that it's broken. 4 hours? 2-3 days staring at a broken menu? How the f*CK do they expect me to spend several hours playtesting their game for them when it doesn't bloody work!?!?!? The ignorance of this developer is a sheer insult to gamers everywhere. Nothing in the developers response fixes this broken, unplayable game, but it does go a very long way in explaining why the product is of such low quality. Let me now throw the developers completely asinine comment right back in their faces where they deserve it, on behalf of all gamers: Please consider changing your crap game as we do not feel this is a fair or constructive "product" on the basics of your failure as game developers and our time spent doing unpaid playtesting of your broken product does not reflect a typical amount of time played for the basis of testing your broken product for free.
Absolutely amazing, the developers have done a good job of the noir style presentation, and good narration of the gameplay.
I'm generally not a fan of RPG games like this, but I recommend this game overall. Two standout points: -The investment and effort the developer(s) put into polishing and improving their game. It's still being constantly updated and recently added more achievements to the original set. -It's based off a novel, and has a large amount of content. Positives: -It's got a fair amount of items and battle mechanics, so battling isn't too stale while not being too complex. -Story heavy, so a lot to watch and see. -Lot of content means a lot of exploring and seeing how much detail is put in even the small-one-line interactions of items during free-roaming periods. -Open world, a variety of movement and transitions, and a variety of menus. -A lot of music. -Free DLCs Negatives: -General aesthetic. Menus and a few other things resemble a basic/plain look seen in a lot of RPGMaker games. -The story is linear, but some sections may get overwhelming or a bit too large to know where to go next intuitively. -Some cutscenes were a little long. Would like to see a few improvements, like the time-clock for whose turn it is in battle. It's cool to see where turns are relative to each other, but it's not clear how fast on the battle clock an entity goes around. Would be cool to see a hint system, and general QoL like faster text, more accessibility options, game-speed multiplier at times, etc.
The Dawning Clocks of Time is definitely a lot of fun. A lot of passion went into this and it has the makings of a great game. The game has a few rough edges but totally worth playing. I will say that after mentioning the rough edges, the developer has been extremely responsive to fix any issues and in a short period of time, the issues have been getting resolved. Any of the issues mentioned did not prevent me from enjoying the game, and by the time you read this review, the issues mentioned have likely already been fixed. The Pros: 1. Interesting world and plot. 2. Good Characters. 3. Music fits the scenes well. 4. Fun and strategic gameplay. 5. Replay value with the open world aspect. The Cons: 1. Some gaps in specific parts of the story (knowing where to go at some times at certain points). 2. Some maps zoomed in too much. 3. Combat balancing issues depending on the specific skills and equipment. Links to our Full Review with commentary from the developer as well: 1. I really enjoyed playing the game and I think it's totally worth the price. Give it a try!
Don't really play much space games, but this one is a great game. A great story that definitely pulls the player in with the characters the developer has developed. The game does have great mechanics, like the time capsule leveling system and the sphere grid leveling system. Although sometimes the combat does feel repetitive and not much of a challenge because certain skills are definitely an over-kill. I just got to chapter 2 and the story plot is thickening. I do recommend other to try this game
There is more to be desired from this game but it truly delivers with its narrative. The story is its best feature and it is supported by the classy music and the retro 2d art style. This is exactly what one expects from an indie game like this. Experiencing the story itself makes the small and cheap purchase worth it. The gameplay keeps up with the story giving you a fun and engaging experience. It will make you think and strategies and give you the challenge to keep going. However, It still needs more attention with updates fixing its flaws and improving the gameplay even more. Needs to add more difficulties or make the gameplay even more challenging. Some UI improvements on the Main menu, maps and combat can make the game even better. Overall I would recommend the game as it is worth it in my opinion.
The game is not done badly, The graphics, enemies, transport are made good of the minuses of the locations are made for a quick hand. And so you can play this game with pleasure.
