I don't easily vote down a game, but Supermassive made it possible.
Very Disappointing

I had big hopes for The Devil in Me, but honestly, it ended up being an even bigger disappointment than Man of Medan. For me, House of Ashes is still the best one from The Dark Pictures Anthology.
My Thoughts

I became a big fan of Supermassive Games after playing Until Dawn. Even though The Devil in Me is not a bad game, it is just disappointing. The concept around the Murder Castle is actually really good. The world and setting had a lot of potential, but the antagonist is written very poorly. There are events that happen in the game that make no sense, and at times it feels like a bunch of content was cut from the final version. This is supposed to be a cinematic interactive video game, but most of the story you understand only through collectibles or evidence you pick up along the way. Seriously? If you did not like House of Ashes or Little Hope, then please refrain yourself from even thinking about getting this game. I played The Casting of Frank Stone on Xbox, and that game made sense because it was built around Dead by Daylight. It was a decent game. But here, The Devil in Me feels like it had good ideas but did not execute them properly.
What I Liked

The acting is decent, and the voice acting is good, especially thanks to Jessie Buckley. There are also some new gameplay elements that were not present in the previous installments, which I did like.
Final Verdict

Overall, I would highly suggest people to buy this game only on a big sale.

Oh Supermassive... will you ever manage to find the magic from Until Dawn (or is it perhaps that, Until Dawn was lightning in a bottle and only really worked because it was "the first" of it's kind). It's alright, probably the second best of the first 4 Dark Pictures games, but it's not exactly good. it still goes Until Dawn, The Quarry, House of Ashes and then a huge drop to the rest of their games. This time they go back to the roots and go for pure slasher, and while it kind of works as that on a basic level, it also doesn't do much to subvert any of the tropes (like they did in Until Dawn), so there is little surprises to be found and not really any plot twists. But at least we got some of the most disturbing and gruesome deaths in the entire Supermassive library so far, (and man, did they want to kill of Charlie...) if you are going for a slasher, you might as well go all in. The pacing start out slow, and then turn into a haunted house ride with a mix of Jigsaw and Michael Meyers out for blood. It's kind of dumb in how elaborate the house is with all it's saw style trap rooms, fake walls that move, pit traps that open up and so on and the story is even dumber, I mean, wouldn't a entire film crew going missing, and not just random people that the previous targets was, be kind of suspicious, but slasher movies seldom has much logic so take that critique for what it's worth. It's still worth playing if you like this style of games, but i can't recomend it at anything other than a deep sale (or in a budle like I got it).
The Devil in Me was my first entry to the The Dark Pictures Anthology, and the reason why I chose to play the other games. After playing through all of them, ending my gameplay with... well, a replay of TDiM, it is still my favorite, and takes the crown. I am rather surprised to see the mixed reviews on here. Some players seem to desperately cling to the "magic" as well as the essence of Until Dawn. But it is necessary to disregard this game and not draw coomparisions between this game, and a whole different anthology. The mechanics are essentially the same; the stories are not as are the characters. Therefore, I do not see the logic of comparing these games to a standalone game. Yes, even if it paved the path. Oh, well. I do rather enjoy to see different opinions and takes on the anthology, though. Even more, whilst reading through some reviews, that a lot of players favor The House of Ashes - the entry that I, on the contrary, downvoted as the only game in this series thus far.
I just finished this game the same week after playing House of Ashes which I thoroughly enjoyed. I thought for sure that since this is the next title after house of ashes, that it would be at least solid in terms of quality... I could not have been any more wrong. This is my first ever negative review because this game absolutely deserves it. This game does not respect your time as the player. The new inventory system was not a bad idea, it was just terribly implemented. It serves little to no purpose to altering the story or impacting how characters can change certain outcomes save for a few situations. The game has so many "puzzles" which only serves to make you sick of playing the game and takes you out of the immersion of it because they are so unbelievably simple and pointless. You can't help but feel like they were added purely to pad out the game time because of this. The individual character stories are terrible and don't tie well together at all into gameplay outcomes or overall story outcomes. There is no overall story theme or underlying message in the game to help tie everything together by the end too. It's literally just: serial killer hunts down group of adults as they die sporadic, inconsistent, gruesome deaths to create cheap shock value. The choices you make in this game are terribly inconsistent and make no sense. Choose to save a character one time because you think an item might help? well, it doesn't, instead something completely random (not influenced by player choice) influences the outcome. You get put in that same situation 5 minutes later? Well guess what, this time the item matters. These type of inconsistencies regarding decision making is riddled throughout the game and is my biggest complaint. I was genuinely terrified playing the game at the start as I am terrible with horror games. The tight corridors and dark lighting even made me consider stop playing for a bit because of it. But the game uses this too much and has you roaming through 70% of the game in the dark with a tiny light making you grow accustomed to it quickly, making playing through these segments later a chore to do. Too many Hollywood-style loud noise plus sudden object comes onto screen jumpscares haunt the game throughout as well. The killer walks around and focuses on aura farming instead of actually being a terrifying, cunning killer. He constantly looks over his shoulder to make the player feel like he knows where we are, which loses its scary affect after the first few times and is something that he continues to do the whole game which just makes him look stupid by the end of it. There's so much more to complain about but this is already too long. If my memories were erased, I wouldn't play this game again even if it was free. Absolute waste of time and extremely disappointing after coming off of the absolute high that was House of Ashes.
The most boring, the most bugged, the shortest, the ugliest graphics and the most expensive game from all series. Dont buy it, you will not miss anything. The devs put a ♥♥♥♥ on gamers. Very disappointed that paied and played this. Will never buy any new games from that devs
I like the story but the gameplay and optimization is ass
Easily one of the best game of the season 1 of series by dark pictures anthology the devil in me has everything a best story till now i played in this season with most best thing is the suspense by that it becomes more addictive to play and with the suspense and other is the mystery behind the mask and hotel i"ll not give more spoilers about the game 10/10 game for sure.
