+ Good story, possibly great but that's subjective + Decent characters with diverse personalities - Insufferable CEO type character - Immersion obliterating stealth - Unsatisfying closure despite perfect playthrough
I have never put a thumbs down on a game, even The Devil in Me, which I didnt enjoy because of the mechanics that made the game frustrating to play. The stealth mechanic was really bad, made the game feel more like a hassle than something i actually could enjoy. There are almost no QTEs, and the way you find information is just lame, it feels like there is no exploration. The messaging system was also bad. I think it was the games way of making dialogue between the characters, but the messaging just felt stale and didnt build any connection between you and the characters. The story actually had a lot of potential. The storyline alone was actually quite interesting, but was destroyed by the characters. I could see them writing the characters like that because of the storyline, but frankly i didnt enjoy any of them. Also the way the story was told kinda ruined the choices (altough there wasnt a lot of them) seeing someone being alive 18 hours from now kinda spoils that they cannot die in between. Sad to see Salim again and getting all the good memories from House of Ashes, only for his character to be lame. The choices felt insignificant, there were little dialogue, and the little dialogue there was didnt really feel like impacted the characters. The game just felt lifeless. They really just left everything that made these games good, and made a pile of yeah... The game feels rushed and I personally couldnt enjoy it. For the next game I hope they go back to the gameplay that worked from Until Dawn/The Quarry/House of Ashes which I really enjoyed. Wouldnt recommend buying it. Rating: 2/10
Dark Pictures!
My friends and I always play through these, and similar type games. When they want to laugh, they have me play because I am unreliable with QTE's. I had the duty of playing through 8020 recently, and here are our thoughts. Cons: Too much sneak, it got boring. Not enough QTE's, so rare that it was almost a jumpscare in itself to get one? No curator song - one of my group is SUPER passionate about this, thought it was basically unplayable without. We liked the Curator in general, as a good, natural pause point in sessions. As one can expect, I killed a lot of characters off, and gotta say, the death animations were so repetitive and boring. Was cool the first time, but some variety would be nice. *Leftovers* (iykyk) was just rude. Poor guy didnt even get a chance. Pros: Thought the story, and general vibe of the game was good. I honestly don't mind the characters being a bit dumb, and the dialogues being a bit whatever at times. Cheese is part of why we are here. Wish it had like.. 50% the stealth missions at least, and some more QTE's. As is, doesn't leave any desire for replay for me. Which is sad, cause I am definitely interested to see other routes.
Complete waste of time. Non-game, full of literally the exact "sneak past the lifeform" objective. Almost NO consequences and 0 QTEs. This ♥♥♥♥ is straight ass.
Visuals were amazing Game never crashed once Story is compelling and fruitful Good o'l House of Ashes vibes (mixed in with a little Dead Space) _ _ _ Am recommending this to friends - 10/10
hating me is like all you do breakfast to dinner
