Very disappointed with this one. 𝘓𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘱𝘦 starts strong with some great atmosphere and tension building. Over the hours of gameplay, this tension is dissolved through illogical character interactions and a TERRIBLE ending. I probably wouldn't have finished the game if I hadn't already purchased it.
Extreme 7/10 game. When playing this game, at times, it felt like better than a 7/10 game. It was genuinely interesting in the opening hours, and I enjoyed what I was playing. It was even a little scary at times, and had a great atmosphere. However, after the first couple of hours, you realize there isn't much to it. The narrative is definitely more interesting than Man of Medan, but it's pretty typical and you've seen it all before. The Silent hill inspired atmosphere is great, and one of the games strong points. Your first playthrough is also great, with a really interesting story and mystery. Unfortunately, this pretty good narrative is completely spoiled by the end. The ending, while is a neat twist that initially is interesting, in retrospect, completely ruins the entire rest of the game. Sure, it makes one character that much more interesting, but every other character is retroactively ruined. And I mean completely ruined. I cannot tell you how much I hate this type of ending in any form of media. The game also gets a lot less scary after the opening hour or two, reusing the same jumpscares that everytime it was about to happen I could instantly tell there was going to be a jumpscare. All in all, get this on a steep discount and only play it once, because you won't have any drive to replay it.
The Dark Pictures: Little Hope is a massive win
I just finished Little Hope and honestly, it might be the best game in The Dark Pictures Anthology so far. If you treat it like a high-budget visual novel, it is easily one of the best ones out there. First off, the production value is great. The motion capture is incredibly well done and the voice acting is very good, which actually makes you care about the characters instead of them just feeling like generic horror movie tropes. Visually, the graphics are pretty good across the board, and they nailed the creepy, foggy atmosphere of the town. What really hooked me though was how deep the choices are. Your decisions actually feel like they matter, and the story branches in ways that make your choices feel heavy and earned. The only real downside is that the cutscenes look like they have video compression artifacts. It is super noticeable and kind of ruins the immersion when a beautiful game suddenly gets blocky and pixelated during a major scene. Even with the weird video artifacts, this is easily the best Dark Pictures game I have played. If you like choice-driven horror stories, it is a must-play.
I will give it 7,9/10 it was an improvement from Man of Medan. The dialogue is somewhat smoother, overall vibes was creepy not just random jumpscares. The mystery and puzzle of the story is more intriguing. I do get the real villain but it's so confusing at first. I was gonna rate it 7 because the camera and movement is still clunky and it bugged sometime and i ended up replayed a scene 3 times just to save Taylor because of the bug. The last scene is so good with the final conclusion i wanna give it a 8 but disappointed with my 3 characters just died in the last scene without any QTEs and my interference. i was confused but it doesn't matter cause we got final plot twist at the end. maxed 8/10 ig
4/10
Despite the game being out for almost 6 years, it is still riddled with bugs that make it so you can't complete important QTE's that can LITERALLY kill a character. Specifically when Taylor has to face the demon alone. My friend and I are unable to save her because he can't complete the QTE to save herself, it just doesn't show up. Don't buy unless you want to gamble with your money. Better off going to the casino.
