could have been great but let these negative reviews inspire you to take more creative control in the future. You don't need ai as a crutch.
THIS IS NOT A BAD GAME! but if you played banished, you might feel disappointed. yes, it's a banished clone. thats not the issue. this game actually tries to fix the main problem with Banished: in banished every route, worker and resource is properly simulated. thats what made it unplayable in later stages. but thats also what made it great. this feels more like an idle builder. you grind towards the next unlock just to wait for more money. the fact that they tried to fix the resource and transport issues from banished with a global stockpile was a sound design decision, but it rips the game of its substance. the decoration elements are fun but meaningless. the money/tax system is also ok but ultimately meaningless. so is the tech tree. banished felt bare bones but this game proves: banished left everything out that wasnt necessary. when banished felt too punishing or sluggish. this one just feels pointless.
A city builder with very little challenge, lots of AI (or low effort) art (not sure why the "story mode" needs a bunch of elf-eared, flat-acted, unnamed characters in front of a drawing of calvary men with carbines when that doesn't seem to align with the era). Very inspired by Banished but with an added list of 'what if crop yield map, mines are bottomless but there's a mine yield map, what if...). The "social dynamics"? A series of A/B choices that sometimes ask you to "balance" various approval categories between 4 tiers of citizens (pick whatever on normal cause that ♥♥♥♥ will return to your town's baseline by the next decision). Maybe I've given myself the raw end by not upping the difficulty, but the unnecessary padding with uncanny valley characters in the story mode has put me off enough. Just going to spend my time with a better city builder.
Oh my, what shall I say, I loved the game in the beginning of its development. But meanwhile it has a so named "story". The story is just endless tasks for the king. When you finished one you get immidiately a new one and it is always about sending him some resources. It is so boring and annoying after a few hours that you just don't want to go on playing. You can play without that "story", then it is just like a sandbox. That is probably the best way to play this game. Sad that they could not come up with any nicer story, than a war that makes you send the king constantly resources. To be honest, because of that garbage I can not really recommend the game anymore, except you want to just play its sandbox, then you can buy it! As I said, to be fair, in sandbox it is really nice.
Patron me sorprendió gratamente.
PATRON. It's not a very balanced game. - The tech tree looks interesting but you're able to research items far ahead of the time when you can use them but you have nothing else to research in the meantime and nothing to do with all your money. - It sometimes takes multiples of a type of building just to service very basic needs of a small population in the beginning but the main quest line you have to follow demands products, goods and targets that you won't be able to meet for quite some time, they are too advanced for your town's progress. - You cannot control your population growth. Once residents hit a certain age they are homeless until you build a home for them instead of staying in their original home. - There is no easy way to find a certain type of building that you have built and where it's located which wastes a lot of time clicking on buildings one at a time until you find what you're looking for. - Why not include more goods on the game status window when your mouse hovers over certain icons such as; adding quartz when you hover over the stone icon andb displaying the various types of food when hovering over the food icon. This would be much more efficient and easier than having to bring up the stock menu which is very large and then trying to scroll to find what you're looking for. - Graphics are nice but very demanding on the hardware, my gaming laptop fans run constantly when I play. - Decent buy if it's on sale but I wouldn't pay more than $10 for it.
if you liked banished but want something that still gets updates, this is an excellnt choice.
If this game did not have direct predecessors (Banished and its copycats) I wouldn't judge it too harshly; however, this iteration doesn't add much and even does some things worse. The most notable addition is the "story quest," which mainly consists buying the next chapter with resources. No time limit, no penalty for not doing it, no engaging plot. Pros: -Research system gives sense of progression -Building upgrades let you invest in industries you've already built -Can adopt and customize town policies -- would like to see this developed more Cons: -Significantly worse UI than similar games -Less control over fields and ranches, e.g. you can't split a herd or chop an orchard -Story quests and decisions don't feel important or challenging -More buildings simply appear when placed, rather than needing to be built -General lack of realistic and engaging detail: can't see names of townsfolk, building animations are less granular, livestock magically appear in new fields, etc.
It's unfortunately both simple and poorly balanced. If you want a game better than this, get Banished and save the annoyance.
This game taught the basic economy, supply chain, supply and demand, nothing too complex. Good game to kill time.
