The first hour and chapter I was a bit lost. Didn't really get the story but continued playing and it made more and more sense Relaxing gameplay with a lovely ost and smooth colour schemes.. Not a challenging game at all, but sometimes it's just nice to run around in the nature just enjoying the view. A minus would be that some of the achievements seems to be bugged for me even when trying some tricks using guides.
A hidden gem of a game with some of the most incredibly stunning visuals, and gorgeous music. An interesting story-line told through memories you can find along the way as you walk through a world of spirits. The story isn't fully explained so it allows your mind to wander and perhaps insert your own memories or feelings of similar situations you have faced. A really great game, not too long to 100% complete, with the option of going back to previously completed levels if you missed something. Voice acting is generally pretty good- tho sometimes it *did* feel quite... fake? As if the actors were a little disinterested and just purely reading lines from a script rather than portraying actual emotion/attempting to. The only thing I was kinda disappointed by was the very end- unless I'm missing something, nothing happened after I saw the last memory, and it didn't feel extremely satisfying as an ending to this beautiful game. Nevertheless, would highly recommend this, and make sure you have your screenshot button ready, as the visuals are truly awesome. 8/10.
tl;dr If you like walking sims, and don't want to 100%, then I actually would recommend. Otherwise, steer clear unless there's a sale, or you're passionate about supporting solo devs. I'll be following Fazzio in the future for sure. As other's have said, it has a somewhat compelling story, and the visuals are nice (though the saturation and bloom could be reduced a bunch.) Where this game falls short is in the gameplay, which I can only describe as being less "play" and more "game". Like, it's the things that games do, without a lot of the thought. For a solo dev'd game, it is impressive. I feel like this is the turning point for the creator. Now that they can make games that are pretty, and voice acted, and completed (apparently difficult for some devs!) now Fazzio can focus on streamlining their games, making them shorter not because they don't have ideas, but because the game doesn't need the bloat. This game could have been half the length and actually been better for it. I loved some of the big set pieces, it was just the travel in between. If you like walking sims, and don't want to 100% this game, then I would recommend. Otherwise, I'd steer clear unless there's a steep sale.
Such a beautiful graphics. The family story is interesting. Soothing background music and dialogues makes the memories more lively. As everyone says, its walking simulator. Just roam around the world, and enjoy the scenery. Memories are fragmented and becomes difficult to know what exactly story is. One has to read forums to understand what’s going on with the family.
Stunning premise, poor execution

Summary ; TLDR
Stellar visuals, music composition and voice acting. Unfortunately, the voice acting is hindered by unnatural, lackluster dialogue. It has convoluted and unfinished story telling, unsatisfying sometimes purposeless game play mechanics, bugs and annoyances; none that are gamebreaking just exit to main menu fix. As well as, it's just a bit too long and too ambitous with world size for monotonous gameplay. Look, give it a go if it's on sale. But I personally couldn't wait to get it over and done with in the end. Honestly, left a bad taste in my mouth.
Game play
I played with keyboard and mouse: Simple controls and easy game play mechanics to learn. I loved the introduction of new skills as you progressed throughout the story. However, the skill allowing you to trasverse faster should have been given earlier on rather than late game; as the worlds are quite big and not visually complex or stimulating enough. Throughout the game you can light beacons, island trees and a big tree which in return give you a benifit. As well as, giving you some form of direction/purpose other than walking. - I liked the beacons as a guide. Once activated a sprite will guide you to the next point of interest. They do increase your essence capacity but honestly, I never found it necessary. - The floating island trees give you essence, nothing overally exciting. - The large tree, I'm not sure if there is a prerequisite but it gave me a skill and later on was a point of essence replenishment for a skill. These three mechanics are ideally a nice concept. However, they lack a satisfying function. You walk up to them press a button, it loads and you get the benifit. That's boring. If there was a minigame (it doesn't have to be hard) to keep your mind/hands active it would have felt a little bit more like an accomplishment for the player and give the mechanic more substance. As mentioned, skills are aquired gradually. Some are pivotal as they're required to progress a memory. Others are simply used as a story telling tool. The last skill you aquire is used more so in the late game but it feels like an unecessary skill and isn't satisfying to use. You will treverse the land and see beams representing memories which are necessary to progress. The idea of telling stories through memories is a good idea however, due to the openess of the game you often see/come across the memories insequentially which creates confusion. Rightfully so as the memories are from two different timelines. Maybe this is on purpose but honestly it really ruined my experience. I feel, it would have been better to have a more linear travel path where the player would naturally come across these memories allowing a more cohesive understanding of the story and then adding other memories into the mix or even having them on the off beaten path but visable enough to coherse players to wander to them. Moreover, some memories you a trapped in them. Literally. A sphere which you cannot exit if you accidentally have already aquried the memory. There's no fast forward either. What really pissed me off is as I'm running back and forth from memory to beacon I would hit an imaginary wall. No, it is not the world border it is actually just an invisible walls in the middle of nowhere. There's multiples of them throughout every level. I've even been put in air jail so I had to exit the game because I was simply stuck. Have the sprite to guide you is a nice touch however, it would have been nice if it could fly more linearly and on paths I could actually use. The sprite will sometimes traverse a slop that I as the player cannot climb so, leaving me at a dead end or resulting me in having to go all the way around. Annoying to say the least.
Graphics
The environments you're in are genuinely beautiful. They're fantastical and magical really allowing you to get immersed; The developers have used a really nice colour palette. However, the expansiveness of the level is a huge downplay. Because, although its really beautiful at first travelling back and forth becomes boring because there's no variety of texture, flora and fauna. Little pockets would've allowed for a better experience. I really loved the choice of giving the people in the memories a disembodied effect. Each would have their own colour and you'd gradually recognise them which is fun. The design for you the player as a three tailed wolf is an interesting choice as it really bares no symbolism in any culture other than alluding to a mystical thing. That and the design was quite lackluster compared to the world.
Story
Poorly told through the plethora of scattered and insequential memories that you as the player have to run around and find. I understand the jist but am still confused as for the actual purpose. The ending really didn't provide any clarity either. This is really disappointing because the memories are actually really beautiful and compelling. They have a real soulful feeling. Allowing you as the player to be immersed in various emotions throughout this family's journey. I would giggle and get teary etc but, the story didn't feel linear and natural. Just spots of emotion here and there. But what is the purpose of journey all for, what is the real meaning. It didn't convey the depth as clearly as I would have wanted.
So, as the wolf you are following a travelling family. It starts off lighthearted. As you progress the world becomes a bit darker, somthings not quite right. Eventually you can start interacting with the family via your skill sometimes. You understand that somehow one of the children has died along the way. Danger lurks around the family and at some point it becomes clear that you are Cody and are protecting them. For whatever reason, your family is travelling back "for the girls". On the way back you learn that your father set out on this journey because he was chosen?
Anyway, that's my understanding and it's still not all clear.
Music & Sound
Really wonderful sound design paired with the world. I loved every composition and it enhanced every scenario. The voice acting was really good. The voices sounded high quality but the script felt unnatural at times which I feel really hindered the voice acting.
Thoughts
I wanted to just even like this game but unfortuntely I could not wait to finish and get it over with. It really had a good recipe but it was poorly executed with some bugs that really irked me to the core. I can see the dev is in the process of making another game called "The Majestic" and frankly it looks exactly the same but possibly
the sisters POV or her story thereafter
. I'd really hope they've enhanced game play mechanics and improved on the formulae so i will try the demo. But unfortunately, due to this playthough I don't have my hopes particularly high.
A Beautiful, Emotional Journey - A Must Play Experience The Companion is one of those rara games that truly touched my heart. From the moment I started playing, I was completely immersed in this breathtaking world. The different locations and realms are absolutely stunning, each with its own atmosphere and magic, drawing you deeper into the story with every step. The narrative is simple unforgettable-emotional, powerful and beautifully told. I found myself genuinely move by it, even shedding a few tears along the way. It´s a story that stays with you long after the credits roll. Gameply-wise, The Companion strikes the perfect balance. It´s easyto understand, smooth to play and incredibly rewarding. The missions were engaging and intuitive, making it easy to relax and enjoy the experience without any frustration. And the soundtrack - WOW. It´s absolutley gorgeous and fits every moment perfectly, adding even more depth to an already amazing journey. I enjoyed every second of this game. If you´re lookin for something soulful, emotional and visually stunning The Companion is a gem that should not be missed.
