The Chaos Engine

I used to play this Chaos Engine on the Amiga with my nanny decades ago. The remake feels exactly like the original did all those years ago.

As one of my favourite 16-bit classics of all time, purchasing the 2013 release on Steam was a no-brainer. It is a port of the Amiga AGA version of the game which is fine by me. The bloom and smoothing effects, whilst not exactly necessary, are welcome if you like that sort of thing. All in all it plays fairly well, the only time I had a hiccup whilst playing was in World 1 Level 2, which really suffered from major slowdown/lag for some reason. My laptop isn't the fastest (it only has a Ryzen 3 CPU) but this game is a port of a 1993 16-bit game, there should be no problem running it whatsoever - I can only assume it is an optimisation issue somewhere. What is strange is that after that level and managing to get to World 3 Level 3, I had no further slowdown problems at all. Since it only happened in one level I can forgive it mostly, I did enjoy the game as a whole so I wholeheartedly recommend this game to retro gamers everywhere.

Juego retro de los tiempos de super nintendo y sega mega drive. Una pieza de museo (con musica muy marchosa) que en su dia tuvo gran exito. Un pelin dificilillo cuando avanzas algo en la partida. Solo tienes 3 vidas. Y algunas dificultades mas, como municion limitada. Pero merece la pena tenerlo y mas por ese precio: oferta 2€. Al ser una adaptacion no se si funciona el modo cooperativo.

This is a great but brutal game, kind of reminds me of a Dark Souls like game where the punishing gameplay can where you down and fully demoralise you. Having said that the game is fair and allows you to progress once you level up your hand-eye coordination skills. Sit back and pour yourself a single malt scotch with ice and bask in it's old school nostalgia !

I love the Chaos Engine. Intense action, a thumping 90s soundtrack, a unique design aesthetic and voice clips that will go with me to my grave. The only thing wrong with it is that I find the difficulty curve outpaces player progression by world 3, and it becomes crushingly hard well before the end. I'd love to see a remake someday, with twin stick aiming and a save function rather than level codes. Like a lot of older games, Chaos Engine is often cheaper than a petrol station Mars bar. Buy it, or don't.

Great to play this game after so many years. The game port over to Steam is surprisingly well done, even multiplayer steam play worked well with a friend

What on earth did you do to the networking?! It feels like the most basic "lockstep" multiplayer possible, the bare minimum done by a contractor with a one month deadline. Playing one of the console ports with Fightcade is probably a better experience than this!

Alors la je dis non ! La version amiga etait pplus souple que ca ! Rien n est bon la dedans ! Graphismes correct mais animation catastrophique ainsi que la maniabilite aux fraises ! A eviter ! Tellement decu que j y rejoue volonte sur mon amiga.... Interet : 08/20 Realisation : 08/20
