Case of the Worst Day Every (henceforth abbreviated to CotWDE) is a game in the style of Golden Idol or Little Problems before it. Each scenario follows a different member of the <last name redacted> family, and your goal is to decipher why exactly everyone's day is awful. You'll do this by examining a scene, gathering clues, and slowly building your understanding of the world. CotWDE has a lot of charm. The scenarios that the characters find themselves in are creative and varied. The characters engage in a lot of friendly dialogue that is often reminiscent of real-life interactions! Don't let the cutsy art style fool you, though -- this game is quite difficult. It took me 11 hours to beat the 10 cases in the game, including one tutorial and one warm-up case. Most cases in this game have two parts: a "character identification" phase and a "what exactly happened?" phase. Unlike many cases in the other two mentioned games, CotWDE takes the character identification parts and cranks them up to 11; you'll need to cross-reference several clues (and weed out any red herrings) to figure out who's who. It can be pretty exhausting! The second half only starts to shine later on (and it really does get into some interesting stuff!). Overall, if you like Golden Idol-esque deduction, you'll probably like CotWDE, too! It really is more meaty than it looks.
It's a cute, interesting, and logic based game. I will say that I thought it would be easy and I was put in my place pretty quickly. The levels get more and more difficult, but you also become more familiar with how you should play and organize as you go. Great for using the brain.
Great game. A bit of an unpolished interface, but absolutely ***GREAT*** "Golden Idol"-like deduction game. Thoroughly enjoyed every case and would love to play future releases from this dev. Easy 9.5/10 with some genuinely funny writing at times.
When I saw reviews saying this game was hard... I didn't believe them. But let me tell you, I have spent an hour or so trying to figure out the answer to one of the FIRST ones... just to be wayyyyy off course. Some of the answers seem like guess work tbh, but otherwise I like the premise of the game. EDIT: Just finished the game and let me tell you... I'm glad Steam Guides exist! This game gets so convoluted towards the end, it was impossible for me to figure out, it was information overload! And I was using the notepad to write down any and all info I came across too... I still like the premise of this game but I'm also glad I'm done lol
I really tried to like this game, but it just nosedived in quality towards the end, which lead me to writing this review. The experience wasn't actually all that bad during the first bunch of levels. However at some point, the puzzles became so artificially difficult, they all boiled down to making tons of assumptions about certain elements to even be able to narrow down some of the names. And for some reason, during the last few cases, there wasn't even any clear logic that lead to certain identifications, at times I even feel the answers were wrong. The very final level is the most guilty of this, there is NO evidence anywhere that shows what happened, so it essentially resorts to a guessing game. I've played many of these deduction-based mystery/detective games and this was by far the most unimaginative and plain broken of them all. Sorry for the negative review, I do like the puzzle genre and the potential it has, but this ain't it.
Quick game, tons of fun! Would love a DLC
Nice "golden idol" style deduction puzzle. There are no connected master plots to solve, but all the characters live in the same community so there are connections between the stories.
怎么会有一家人同时这么倒霉的……玩得我代入进去了。希望他们接下来的日子可以顺遂一点xD
I really loved The Case of the Worst Day Ever. Even though it’s not a co-op game, I played through the whole thing together with my wife, and we had a great time trying to piece everything together. Figuring out the story, connecting clues, and slowly uncovering what really happened was incredibly satisfying. It definitely feels like a game made for people who enjoy detective work and don’t mind taking their time to think things through. Be prepared for a bit of trial and error along the way, but that’s part of the experience. When things finally click, the sense of satisfaction is absolutely worth it. If you enjoy mystery, investigation, and solving puzzles at your own pace, this is an easy recommendation.
