Thought playing one of the first "actual games" (i.e. Has actual gameplay and progression and isn't a sub-1-hour-of-content tech demo with an inflated price tag because "OMG ITZ VIRTUYAL REALITY!!!!") would be a fun, nostalgia-tinged endeavor. This game has unfortunately aged very poorly. Guns are limited and are unsatisfying, combat lacks feedback, gameplay is very simple, and there are no active reloads - you press a single button and your weapon reloads like in any flatscreen game. Leave this one to the history books.
I purchased this game back in 2018 when I first got my HTC Vive. The problem is I wanted so many experiences when first jumping into VR, so I bought a bunch of games, but barely finished any. Fast forward, and I'm now playing on the Valve Index and finally decided to jump back into playing more VR and giving this game a full go. All I can say is wow! For a game that's pushing 8+ years old, it is fantastic. The arcade gun play stays fun and satisfying the entire time. I love all the different environments and moods. The pace gets very tense at parts when a ton of enemies come at you at the same time, and it really sets you up to feel like a John Wick style monster killer. I NEVER leave reviews, but had to give Phosphor Games their props. I had a blast playing through this game end to end today!
Just another tech demo (like most VR games are) made in the early days of VR. Not worth £15. Not worth your time. But, as I said in one of my previous VR game reviews, this isn't the developer's fault. Why would a bunch of developers spend thousands of hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars developing AAA-quality games when the VR customer base is so low? On the other hand, I can't blame the customer base either. Why would someone buy bulky and expensive VR headsets and end up having to put up with subpar, crappy graphics due to technological limitations? VR still has a long way to go, and more Research and Development (R&D) is needed until we get to a point where the headsets will be affordable, high-quality, comfortable to wear, and deliver 4K quality graphics easily, just like modern monitors do. Until then, everything about VR is a paid tech demo.
Still holds up!
Runs and plays well on a PSVR2 headset with a Legion Slim 5 Gen8 Laptop (14" OLED). Just had to verify the installation files after encountering the no audio/sound bug which is a posted solution in the Steam community forums. Great atmosphere and replay-ability despite it's age.
Scary as hell, Solid gunplay, good storytelling. Fantastic, No notes.
very good VR game
I don't even get to shoot one zombie before the game crashes.
