Dead game. Unfortunately, I left it running by accident racking up 10 hours then forgot to ask for a refund.

The Beasts Of 9500 is an indie survival simulation that places players in a prehistoric ecosystem, inviting them to experience life as a dinosaur in a harsh and competitive world set millions of years in the past. Developed and published by Dragons, the game leans heavily into the idea of emergent gameplay, where survival, growth, and interaction with other creatures—both AI and player-controlled—form the backbone of the experience. It presents itself as a multiplayer sandbox where the player’s story is not scripted but instead shaped by moment-to-moment decisions and encounters, which is an appealing concept for fans of open-ended survival games. The core gameplay loop revolves around staying alive long enough to grow and evolve. Players begin as relatively weak creatures and must hunt, scavenge, or graze depending on whether they choose a carnivore or herbivore. This choice significantly alters the way the game is approached, with carnivores focusing on tracking prey and engaging in combat, while herbivores must prioritize awareness and avoidance. As time passes and the player survives longer, their dinosaur develops, gaining improved stats and becoming more capable of defending itself or dominating others. This progression system adds a sense of investment, as each life feels meaningful and survival becomes tied not just to the present but to long-term growth. The multiplayer component introduces a layer of unpredictability that is arguably the game’s strongest feature. Encounters with other players can lead to cooperation, competition, or sudden conflict, creating situations that feel organic rather than scripted. Traveling in groups can increase survival chances, especially for herbivores, while predators may work together to take down larger prey. These interactions can generate moments of tension and excitement that capture the essence of a living ecosystem, where danger is always present and alliances are often temporary. When the game works as intended, it can produce memorable scenarios driven entirely by player behavior. However, the game’s ambition is not fully supported by its execution. While the open world is large, it often feels empty and lacking in meaningful interaction. Environmental variety is limited, and there are few dynamic systems to make the world feel alive beyond the presence of other players. AI creatures exist but do not consistently contribute to a believable ecosystem, and many gameplay elements become repetitive over time. The survival loop, while initially engaging, can begin to feel shallow as players realize that there is little variation in objectives or progression beyond simply staying alive and growing stronger. Technical issues further impact the experience. Performance can be inconsistent, and the game often demands more from hardware than its visual quality would suggest. Animations and models are functional but lack refinement, and the overall presentation feels rough around the edges. While the environment can occasionally create a sense of atmosphere—particularly in moments of isolation or during encounters—the lack of polish prevents the game from fully immersing the player in its prehistoric setting. Audio design does little to enhance the experience, remaining mostly in the background without adding significant depth or tension. Another significant drawback is the apparent lack of ongoing development. Released as an Early Access title, the game has not seen the level of updates or improvements that players typically expect from projects in this stage. As a result, many systems feel incomplete or underdeveloped, and the overall experience gives the impression of a concept that was never fully realized. This stagnation affects long-term engagement, as players quickly reach the limits of what the game currently offers. Despite these issues, there is still a certain appeal to The Beasts Of 9500, particularly for players who are drawn to its premise. The idea of surviving as a dinosaur in a shared online world remains inherently compelling, and the moments where the game’s systems align—such as a tense hunt or a narrow escape—can be genuinely engaging. For players who are willing to overlook its rough edges and focus on these emergent experiences, there is some enjoyment to be found. In the end, The Beasts Of 9500 is a game defined by potential rather than execution. It introduces a strong concept and a framework that could support a rich survival experience, but it falls short due to limited depth, technical shortcomings, and a lack of continued development. It may appeal to a niche audience interested in dinosaur survival simulations, but for most players, it will likely feel incomplete and lacking in substance. Rating: 5/10
