About
Isles of Yore is a multiplayer simulator that aims to make you experience what it was like to go through life as a prehistoric animal.

Claim your domain with an animal of your choosing in an environment that best suits your needs—dense jungle, treacherous swamps, and the wide open areas of the island all offer unique advantages and challenges.
Compete with other players and AI in a bid for supremacy and survival in the food chain.
Various carnivores and a herbivore character are available for play, with AI driven characters likewise inhabiting and stalking the land around you.
Future updates will extend this roster further, with larger animals and aquatic biomes planned.
The game's core centers around making you feel like your animal, putting you in full control and giving you a sense of what it was like for the animal when it roamed the Earth, growing and tending to its needs. Balancing thirst, hunger, and stamina are vital day-to-day concerns as you explore the rich environment around you alone or in a pack of friends.
While the main focus is on the immersive simulation, PvP elements with combat between players is available.
If there are no other players around you'll encounter AI animals on your journey, helpful considering our small community and true to the game's core focus of providing a simulation experience in a world that progresses without you.
If you're looking for a more laid back experience, Isles of Yore might be right up your alley.

The game includes a character customisation system, giving you creative control over aspects such as patterns, colouring, and skin types.
Spots or Stripes? Proto-feathers or scales? It's up to you.
A talent tree system also exists to further tailor your chosen animal to your liking, with options to specialise for the playstyle you prefer.

Explore a large, diverse island with its own day/night cycle and highly variable weather.
Fog, snow, and storms may reduce your vision as you navigate through the world, heat waves and cold spells may force you to take refuge in shelters.
The game features a variety of AI animals that can be found inhabiting the island.
Each species has its own own schedule and is trying to survive on the map just like you.
You'll run into migrating herbivores and hungry carnivores hunting for their meals—make sure you don't end up on the menu!
Younger animals can be found amongst the roaming packs and may present an opportune snack if you're quick enough to escape the adult's protective claws and fangs.
A big goal of the project is to further extend the AI systems and make the animals feel true to life with behaviour that uniquely suits them.
Documentation on server hosting is available, with a plethora of options available for server owners—gameplay parameters such as the speed at which your needs deplete, stats overrides, and many more are all available to tailor the experience to your community's liking.
⚠️ Please note that the server configuration system is currently going through a revamp, and some options have been deprecated for the time being (mainly weather changes, time of day progression, and control over the AI count). This is part of an ongoing effort to update these systems and make the core experience better.
Going at it alone is not required, as grouping and chatting (toggleable) with your friends is fully supported.
Isles of Yore is a passion project started from a place of admiration for the awe-inspiring history of life on our planet. The path forged by games in the survival genre offers a uniquely visceral, tantalising glimpse into this strange and wondrous past, and Yore intends to build on this formula with special care to highlight the uniqueness of the animals that came before us.
The game is being developed by a small team and is still going through its update cycle to expand and improve the experience.
Your feedback is most welcome in the Discord to help drive development.

Alright, this one is a bit complicated. The developer is great and is putting a ton of time and effort into making this game amazing, and he's doing a good job thus far. The creatures look amazing, the environments are spectacular, and the animations are decent enough... But ultimately, it's just not worth spending $20 on the game in it's current form, the gameplay is terribly simple, the map is far too large to justify having so few players available on each server, night time and storms are simply just not enjoyable, and the AI is laughably easy to hunt down, all of that not even mentioning the Christmas miracle that is required to encounter another player in-game. Additionally, the movement honestly feels like they tried to re-invent the wheel, the existing framework for good creature survival game movement has been well established for years, but the system that was put in place, although novel, just feels clunky and unpolished. And in some cases, can severely break many of the locomotion animations in very strange ways. There is also the issue of sound design, volume is wildly inconsistent, some audio effects are far lower quality than others, and although many of the ambient tracks are good, the weather, storms, beaches, and a few other audio bits are just outright obnoxious. There is also the UI and mechanic design, many key mechanics and UI elements honestly feel fine, but generally have a feeling of being undercooked. For instance, the skin creator UI and mechanic overall functions, but would feel much better if it was in an environment with consistent, controlled lighting, and a more readable options list for the skin patterns. The spawning UI looks rather messy as well, although it's simplistic which I am quite fond of, selecting an area of the map doesn't really feel right. Additionally, some mechanics and UI elements are left feeling better suited to a tech demo, such as the stamina bar, character menu, growth, and temperature, all of which are vital for the player to understand, and should be much more impactful during moment to moment gameplay, because as it stood, I felt zero pressure to accommodate to the temperature system, even while brazenly trotting through wildly different climates. Honestly, the main suggestion I can make for the developer is to cut the price down to $5, or at the absolute maximum $10... doing that would incentivize many more people to try out the game, leading to hopefully more active servers, and capturing those interesting player engagements that make this genre so captivating in the first place. Additionally, if the price were to be dropped to that extent, people like me wouldn't be intentionally seeking a refund for the game, since the overall experience and value in the multiplayer game would be significantly better justified by the price... if this game was far cheaper, I wouldn't refund it, and I'd likely play the game significantly more than the experience I had tonight. The game as a whole has many of the pieces already in place to be a great dinosaur survival game, but sadly a few factors such as the overall jank present, "tech demo" feeling mechanics, and a high price tag for the current state of the game lead me to say that I cannot recommend purchasing Isles of Yore at this time. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and of course keep in mind that I absolutely want this game to succeed, and I will likely be revisiting it in the future. - Potentially a Hacker

Games great, graphically. It will astonish you with how beautiful this game can be at time, either that be you drinking water in a swamp as the volumetric fog covers half of your body or the way the cloud casts a shadow on the ground. But unfortunately that's where it falls off, the gameplay is fairly lackluster, you'll rarely find players on and if you do it will be difficult to find them considering the map is so large, not that it should stop you playing the game considering the AI does populate the map. But other than that I do think you should buy the game, either to support the dev or just to try it out. I can imagine with some better funding and a bigger community this game can become way better than what it is currently. Personally it isn't for me but I can see how others would enjoy this.
Since you're probably looking at this game because you heard about it on a Discord server dedicated to one of the other dino games, I'll just get straight to the compare and contrast portion:
The Good
- Nearly all of the playable roster can also spawn as AI. - There is a fairly robust AI-only roster. - The strongest AI dino is stronger than the strongest playable dino. No one player can ever be the top dog in a server. - Temperature is simulated, and the animals can be warm- or cold-blooded. - Most animals inflict bleeding with at least one of their attacks. - Bleeding deals damage over time, and can be lethal. Can result in a pyrrhic victory if you don't retreat. - AI will always retreat if they take enough damage. - Players continue growing after reaching both adult and elder growth stages. Most stats increase with growth. Upon reaching a very generous growth cap, the player is from then on an "ancient," receiving a high defense buff at the cost of a speed debuff. - There is a basic perk system, with perk points awarded by reaching growth stages. Out of a possible 13 perks, you can eventually take 7. Many perks are mutually exclusive with others. - AI can spawn at any growth stage, grow at the same rate as players, and eventually die of old age. - There are several food options for small and juvenile carnivores. - AIs do not simply kill on sight. Carnivores hunt when they are actually hungry, and most AIs won't bother you if you don't bother them. - Most food also hydrates you, but you tend to get thirsty faster than you get hungry. - The effects of weather can and will get you killed if you fail to adapt. - The game is pretty to look at. - Updates are frequent. - Developer is communicative, and overall a nice fellow.
The Bad
- The old map was recently swapped out for a new, largely unfinished map. - Many AIs, such as Tyrannosaurus, Spinosaurus, and Brachiosaurus have been disabled since this switch was made, drastically reducing the challenge of survival. - Some mechanics are not explained well, or at all. - Some animations lack polish. - The movement system is quite difficult to get used to, especially if you're accustomed to the other dino games.
The Buggy
- The game has some minor bugs that do not significantly impact gameplay. - There are a couple of annoying bugs concerning scent that you will eventually overcome by simply learning the map's layout. Overall, there is considerably more that I like than dislike about this game. Give it a go.
Isle of Yore is a game still in development but very promising. It's being developped by a single developer so updates can take some time to come out (they're still a lot more frequent than some other dinosaur game cough) but you can tell it's a project of passion, the dev is very active on the discord too and they've always been very quick to help when I needed help about something. The game itself is gorgeous and although I wish there were more ais when there is little players online, it's always a pleasure to come back.
Gorgeous game! Dev is responsive. You can have a blast just exploring and interacting with the ai. Watch out for the Trex..he is quicker than he looks! Only downside is that the servers are empty.
so far they have a lot more then most game's like this have. you can make a pack with AI .
I had to totally rewrite my experince with The Isles of Yore since I started playing it again. "The most realistic dinosaur simulation that exists" Some people would say that it is "The isle". But it really isn´t since Herbivores in groups will try to hunt down Carnivores and that is not realism in anyway. If there was an inbuilt mechanic in that and other games That Herbivores can only hit Carnivores if they hit you first it would have worked. "Few players does not matter" The first thing is that I didn´t grasped when I wrote the review first is that I feelt it was a failed game since very often I only see empty servers. But in this game it doesnt mean something bad like it would be in in PoT,TI or BoB (Other Dinogames out there) because the difference is that those are stonecold dead without players even Path of Titans with it´s Ai critters because they are not Dinos. The immersion of the beautiful landscape of the nature and the ai dinosaurs you encounter is really enough for Isles of Yore to stand on its own. There is no need for an online playerbase. - "The adventures of an Allosaurus the isles of Yore" - "Lets share the food" I started as a small Allosaurus and feelt then I wouldnt have to fear anything. I traversed the landscape and managed to chunk som small Raptorlike Dinos with feathers even though I struggled when we got deep inside of the vegetation of a jungle. I heard some noises of another Dino and I went to see what it was and managed to kill something much larger than me but I suddenly started to bleed.I ripped of some chunks of meat and ate ( Its possible ingame). Suddenly emergering from the foliage was another huge Dinosaur of unknown species grey and dark grey in colurs appeared 20 meters from me. I show to leave my food and not take the fight since I was bleeding and wounded. It went for the carcass and started to eat and then it dawned on me that it really feelt very natural and realistic. I went out in the open and then a huge Tyrannosaurus came out 50 meters ahead, not looking in my direction. I just followed it from that same distance very slowly to se where it would go but when it deeper inside of the jungle I didnt dare to follow and thought I would just end up a snack. At some point managed to go down in the swamps in the dark and I had to swim some time. " Me and the natives" I had no clue it was a swamp first until later on when I tried to swim to land but just had to swim for such along time. Then when I finally got there and the grey foggy daylight became a bit easier to see through I understood it was just an island somewhere and everywhere I looked I couldnt see any land. My feelings where; I will never reach adulthood and form my pack with small kids to chunk meat with. I stomped around on the island for some time and noticed that the only natives of the island me and the foul looking fat toads. I ate breakfast and brought the toads with me, inside of me and said to them "It´s time we leave this island of sadness" and I splashed into the water and hope I wouldnt drown in the swamps. It took forever to reach the other side and the only landmark I could see was the mountaintops in ghe distance. But finally I was safe and I spotted a small Triceratops but to big for me still since I´ve met Trikes before (PoT,Ti,BoB) and know that I would probably die. " A friend in the water" I went up the mountainside and enjoyed the looks of wonderful close by. Then suddenly I saw a Allo sitting behind me in the middle of the waterstream looking directly at me. I could choose to form a pack but I didnt get how and I by misttake attacked it and got hunted instead. I run away and manage to escape it just see myself standing infront of a Tyrannosaurus. I turned my tail and started to dolt for the water and it stomped after me I ran further up the mountain and and tried to get rid of it by jumping over a waterfall stream but just ended up falling into the water. " The trap" The Rex didnt jump after and instead went further up to go down in the stream. I knew it would be my death if it managed to because there was rocks on bothsides of the stream except the area further up where it was stomping towards. I was so happy that I found footing close to the stream and started to gain speed and was quick enough to escape the trap. Aarrghh. So far I´m still alive and not yet a fully grown Allo. ---- I wanted to play as a Parasaurolophus, The one with the long curved alienlike head. https://images.dinosaurpictures.org/Parasaurolophus014_4de9.jpg I never enjoyed it in any othergame but wanted to give it a try. I took sometime to grow allmost adult. Then I started to enjoy just eating swimming around and exploring the landscape. But when I traversed uphill at a rocky area I came up behind a fully grown Tyrannosaurs Rex and my heart froze to Ice and I just turned around and sprinted downhill and in a straight line as long as long as I had Stamina. Later on I got hunted down into a lake by some foul slim small looking Dinos and got killed. Below the creatures that killed me: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coelophysis#/media/File:Coelophysis_Jeff_Martz.jpg My only minus are these: - Neonred blood that looks like its from a paintball gun. - A bit fiddly controls before you get into them, Not so clear how to form a pack and how smelling works - Humanmade cottages and lights on the road but not possible to play as a human. "The isles of Yore is truly an Island of its own in terms of Dinogames" There is nothing like The isles of Yore in terms of simulation of the dinoworld that is singleplayer wiht possibility to play with others. The only thing close so far is a game that isn no longer in developement named "Saurian". So even though The isles of Yore only so far got 6 dinos I think to play with it still is a so deep and immersive simulation of the era that makes it not possible to even compair to any other. Other Dino games that are good but are riddled with problems based on the devs failures with inbuilt mechanics to force players playing them as the Herbs & Carnos and not based on the humanmindset: - Path of Titans - + Solo server with permanent death + Extremly enjoyable flying that really feels like you fly. + Good mix with day/nightcycle and no need for nightvision + Good emotes to communicate with sound and gestures ingame without using chat. + Mods, Tons of Dinosaurs -Modded servers only have pple playing in few hotspots + Wonderful graphics + Fantastic Storms with rain, swaying trees,Extreme fog. + Ai critters and small dinos that can kill you when you are smaller including snakes. +Nesting - Very game map even though its fantastic with its diversty - Not possible to choose transparency of the HUD. -Mixpackers on regular officials, Not on soloservers(Carnivores & Herbavores hanging out in groups killing others together) - Pointless electrical sounds emerging from Teleportstones (Brings you out of immersion) - The Isle - + Tracking dinos and smelling +You are allways afraid of drinking water because of how smart the rivers are in Evrima and you never know if a Croc will eat you. - Night with nightvision in grey with viewdistance 10meters. (This is what made me never being able to enjoy it since its to long downtime of doing nothing until day is back) - Few dinos -Very bad and gamey flyingmechanicsx, -No Seacreatures -Mixpackers (Carnivores & Herbavores hanging out in groups killing others together) - Human made stuff all over the place but can´t be played as humans. - Beasts of Bermuda - + Smelling +Very realistic landscape with fantastic views +Good foliage +Nesting +Weather affects you + Fantastic Storms and rain - Neon coloured skins -Strange sci-fi looking Dinotemples - Glowing portals
Love the peaceful environment til orexy rexy gets hungry
wtf happened here?
Para el creador: Muchas gracias English: The graphics are the best I've seen in a dinosaur game (if you have a good graphics card). The map is very good; it's very large, and although there is an option in case the dino bugs out, it has only happened to me once (getting stuck inside a rock). There are few people on the servers, but the AI compensates quite well; plus, it's not their fault that people don't connect. The models are VERY realistic. Just like Saurian, this game is among the best I've played. Review update: 05/20/2025 They've made major improvements to the AI and other changes mentioned in my review. To the creator: Thank you very much.
