I can't believe this incredible game cost me less than a buck. Simple and varied gameplay with a thrilling story and high-production visuals. You can't not get it!
great game, very fun. can't wait for a third part in the series sometime. eve was a fun addition. wish the games were longer, otherwise fantastic.
This is a minimalist retro 2d puzzle platformer where you play a multicoloured square. Each of your edges has a different colour, and you can only touch surfaces that match that colour. Isn't that exciting? It's not the worse premise for a game but also not the greatest. Couple this with lazy minimalist graphics and a really awful "retro" screen filter that the developers decided you can't turn off. The price for this game isn't very high, but neither is the quality. You can get much better games as free-to-play, so you know... I can't recommend this.
Enjoyed it quite a bit despite usually not being a fan of these types of games. The gameplay is pretty varied with new mechanics added at a steady pace. Doesn't look great, admittedly, very rough around the edges. Horror and story elements sprinkled liberally throughout enhance the experience in a major way. First time playthrough: 1 hour 41 minutes 7/10
A dollar well spent.
Taking a break to rest my eyeballs and write this review while reading the documents. Thank you for making this game and Archimedes ! I hope you will continue to create experiences for us. I really loved playing The Basilisk so far despite it being very hard and frustrating at times. Playing it in 2024 has been very interesting and I'm surprised just how REAL the world building feels considering how we prompt Ai to perform tasks. Please keep making games Josh! One note to others is that I believe there may be an issue with high refresh rate monitors causing some levels to be considerably harder and in one case impossible. A kind person in the community discussions has linked a console command to skip the "Auto move" level where you always die to the second obstacle after bouncing on the RNA. You can also try lowering your monitor refresh rate to 60hz to alleviate the issue but it's not guaranteed to work.
it's a dollar, so like... it's really hard to go wrong for that already. so here's what to keep in mind with this game: -it's not really that scary. there's some jumps that are pretty well telegraphed. there's creepiness throughout though. -it doesn't really have much to do with archimedes. that game was more of a hacking-based ARG, and this is a precision platformer. the plots aren't connected either. -i literally don't know why this has the "sexual content" tag unless something happens in an ending i didn't get. -this'll take about 90min-2hr on your first playthrough, and then you unlock "High Gravity Mode", which i definitely wasn't gonna bother with after some of those late game puzzles. -no achievements, no steam overlay, no trading cards, no points shop, not even a prize from a cracker jack box. -no save system -- this is the biggest problem with the game in my opinion. now why does it have a mental health warning?
this is based on "Roko's basilisk", a thought experiment regarding a theoretical AI system, that tortures all who knew of its existence, but did not spend their existence creating it, for eternity. it's kinda silly and is what happens when atheists on a RationalWiki type site accidentally stumble backwards into the concept of religion. however, it can be bothersome or upsetting to some, and the implications could be a trigger for those with mental health issues. honestly, the game does use elements from it pretty well, all things considered.
overall it's definitely worth a dollar, and if you like weird indie platformers with creepy elements, this one is worth YOUR dollar.
I love the concept of this game! I was extremely excited to play it, since a friend of mine recommended this game to me. However, the controls layout, and how slippery the controls are, make the game impossible for me to play. I unfortunately haven't found a way to change the controls so it is easier to play, as I am using a laptop keyboard and touch pad, and have no external mouse. However, the premise is really good, I love the voice used in the game for eve, I do love the level designs and what you play as look like. It looks like a very interesting game. Unfortunately, I can't play it for more than 10 minutes without getting so frustrated I can't touch the game at all. Which sucks, as I am interested, but am slowly losing more and more interested in it each time I get frustrated.
this is not good.
Ok, this game is very ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard. And yes, the warning in the trailer should be taken very serious.
