The Ball lmao, is basically a washed down Portal game set within ancient structures as you navigate your mute character. The puzzles are very simple most of the time and you don't really feel challenged enough to go through the entirety of the game. Enemies are mostly mummies and they are begging to get crushed by, yes you've guessed it - THE BALL. I've only played for an hour but I already saw all this game has to offer - mid puzzles, a giant, dragging ball that goes wherever you go, no weapons, no legs for the character who is awfully short for some reason and basically no storyline whatsoever. I don't know what were they thinking at Tripwire when they made this game with the most basic ass name in the history of gaming - The Ball lol doesn't bode well in my opinion at all and there's literally nothing about it that can make me play it for a minute longer. Tbh, I was basically forced to buy this game in order to get a DLC character for Killing floor, no wonder why they did that because I don't know who in the right mind would ever buy this.
4/10
I took a gamble on The Ball, as I do not have the reflexes or hand-eye coordination for most fast paced shooting/dodging games. But there was something about its appearance and story which intrigued me, and because some reviews described it as not hard (for them a criticism, for me a ray of hope), I decided to take a chance. And, of course, I struggled, but with overall enjoyment and satisfaction as I slowly overcame the mixture of puzzles, combat and exploration in the Campaign part of the game. The Ball is an old game (2010), but there are some very helpful guides to updating its range of screen resolutions and refresh rates, which greatly improve the experience. There are a range of different achievements for game progress, destroying enemies, collecting story lore, and performing quirky actions (such as balancing & moving on the ball). Of course, in the end my gameplay weaknesses were ruthlessly exposed by even the most gentle of the Survival levels and I gave up on these without regret. But, given I paid an 80% discounted price of UK £1.39 and had over 30 hours of play time, I have no concerns about value - and entertainment - for money.
You are an archaeologist. You find a giant rolling doom sphere. You push it. It hits switches. It squashes mummies. It basically does stuff. The Ball is an oldschool physics puzzler/adventure where your only tool is a big metal ball — and your only plan is “roll over it until it works.” Pros: Weirdly satisfying ball‑physics puzzles 🪩 Exploration of ancient ruins feels cool 🗿 Short campaign + survival mode for extra chaos Cons: Story and combat are kinda bland 📜 Repetitive at times 🔁 Controls/feel are oldschool (for better and worse) 🎮 Verdict: If you wanna push a big ball through ancient ruins and feel smart for 6–8 hours, this is fun — especially on sale. Recommended (quirky indie).
The Ball is an older but interesting puzzle-action game made with Unreal Engine 3. You control a massive metal sphere to both solve puzzles and crush enemies as you progress. The game mainly focuses on physics-based mechanics. ✅ Pros: Unique concept: solving puzzles with a giant ball. Well-crafted ancient temple environments. Occasionally satisfying action moments. ❌ Cons: Gameplay can feel repetitive after a while. Controls may feel a bit heavy. Limited story depth. 🎮 Overall: If you’re looking for a different puzzle experience and enjoy physics-based gameplay, The Ball is worth trying. However, it doesn’t offer much variety for long-term play.
