That's An Order Ensign

That's an Order Ensign is a fun little game about being in space and doing little minigames. It's super cute! I'm a huge fan ! there's not too much to disect here because theres no like concrete story but I liked the detail of being a "red shirt" meaning I am seemingly expendable as Ensign. cute details like that. It's chock full of humor and the simple graphics lend to it, for example there's an 'order' called "Babysit the Wonder Child" where you have to watch a kid for a second. The simple graphics led to me just wandering around and hitting a button without realizing fully what it'd do, and I let the Wonder Kid out of the airlock which gave me quite a laugh. It's just a lot of fun silly "Warioware" style 90s esque game. Would love to see a more fleshed-out followup like I believe the dev was mentioning on twitter... adding stuff like a "tree" to see which minigames you've completed and which ones you need to find would be cool (think Shadow the Hedgehog 2005's level/ending tree) , or a stat that tracks how fast youve beaten each minigame. stuff like that, just little things. Definitely worth the 3 dollar pricetag if you want to have some of that "classic youtube" type fun! (Think "Dumb Ways to Die" and "Happy Wheels" type games)

However, once I got stumped by certain assignments and had to keep mindlessly restarting and churning through the same minigames ad nauseam (many of which entailed staring at my screen doing absolutely nothing), it ate away at my enthusiasm like enemy blaster fire perforating a shield. This is a perfect parody of Star Trek. As a worthless red shirt you navigate the excitement of deep space exploration. From getting coffee to repairing the ship to away missions it captures all the tropes perfectly. While I wish the game was longer it's easily my best $3 purchase.

A short and fun game

Loved it, it's excelent, looking forward to a sequel!

Short and fun little puzzle game where you are given orders that must be completed within a few seconds, or without any time limit but under a threat. It starts off pretty calm with putting on your uniform, grabbing a cup of coffee, and gradually moves into more serious and life threatening situations such as shooting aliens and dodging lasers. Every task takes place on a single screen, and besides the order at the top, the other important element is the list of controls. Most tasks only require you to move around, while a few ask you to press a button. The goal of the game is to make it through all the tasks and reach the end of your shift, but you can only fail three times. After that, you are ejected into space and can do nothing but give it another try. Progress is mostly the same in every playthrough, although a few tasks do not always appear in the same order, and several show up in different variants, like the away missions that can lead to multiple scenarios. Sadly, there are also a few situations that lead to cheap deaths because you are expected to react instantly, which is impossible on a first attempt since you have no idea what to do. To fix this, the game could reward players with extra lives for completing several tasks in a row. Overall, the experience is fun because of the silly tasks you have to complete, but it does not stay engaging for very long once you become familiar with them and know what to expect.
