I loved that you guys finally added the My player feature into the game. I made my person and began his career. I log on today to continue his story to find that you guys have completely removed it and made it ANOTHER purchase on mobile? Wow. I will never buy this style of game again. You finally added the thing I wanted then took it away. 2 stars for being fun making a manager that takes forever to level and upgrading the academy for it to not really translate well to improving your player in a fun manner. Why did you take away the best thing you added. Smh.
This game is not fun at all. I mistakenly purchased Tennis Elbow Manager 2 (let's just call it a senior moment) and enjoyed it well enough prior to refunding (because I really wanted this game). Well, what a mistake that was. This game has no real tutorial. It does have a lot of generalized descriptions about screens and various functions, but they're more about how this screen can be used to do blah blah blah. They don't actually do a very good job of explaining the reason's why you would do certain things. You're left to stumble around the dark with constant experimentation or searching the web for additional information. One example was in hiring coaches and physios. It seemed intuitive that a coach would be important, but the game doesn't really tell you why. When I hired my first coach, it gave me a 1/3 (but only after going to the negotiating screen) which I rightfully assumed meant I had one coach (me) and could hire two more. So, I hired what I could, and even after signing their contracts, I received email messages, that not all my players had people assigned to them. Well, no sh!t, I couldn't hire any more. Anyway that was just a long winded explanation of how the game does not explain things very well. Another area that remains a mystery to me is training. I have yet to find anything in game that really explains it well... it's pretty much trial and error to see what happens. As a result, I just leave it up to my staff to decide; but, they don't do a very good job either, as my players continually lose ranking. In that vein, morale and form are black holes as well. What causes them to change? Why do they go down? How do you improve them? Who knows? Also, the game has crashed on me twice. The first time was when I first stared it and finished creating my academy. When I clicked the button to begin my career, it gave me a loading message and then just disappeared. When I started it back up, nothing had been saved and I had to redo it all. The second time was after my first win in a tournament. Again it just disappeared. Haven't reboot since then, but I suspect my win will be gone. I would refund this in a heartbeat, but just trying to get a handle on some of the basics takes well over Steam's allowed two hour time limit. Edit 9/25: Since this was the only tennis manager game I had, I continued to play despite its inadequacies. That just led to more frustrations, more problems, and more anomalies: 1. The graphics don't match the play results. Often, graphically, the ball is clearly out or in but is called the opposite (this glitch doesn't seem to favor the player nor the AI). Also, sometimes the ball bounces past the player, there's a quick freeze in the animation, and it resumes with player having returned the ball. I've only ever seen this on the player's side of the court, not the AI's. 2. Interviews are repetitive and sometimes come with their own bugs. After a tournament win by one of my players, the interviewer was asking about that player. My answer choices had two options naming a different player on my team. 3. Rankings often don't make sense and seem to be somewhat arbitrary. On one particular occasion the #1 and #2 ranked players were on my team and played each other in a tournament final. #1 beat #2, but in the following week's rankings they swapped positions. In other situation. I had the #1 ranked player. She failed to make it to quarterfinals for 5 straight weeks (twice not making past R64), but remained at number one. 4. There doesn't seem to be a way (that I've found), to limit your youth squad to a certain gender. I have an all female team, but for 3 years running my youth squad has consisted of more male than female, so naturally I cut them at the end of the year (figuratively speaking of course ;)). 5. Staff will resign in the middle of multiyear contracts, and there's no compensation to the player. What's the point of having a contract then... makes no sense. 6. Finally, I've just had way too many cdt's with significant amount of lost game time. Why don't they save after every match? As a result, I'm hanging up my racket for good (for the time being ;)).
It's very similar to the game from last year, not much has improved and tactics have not advanced at all, some playstyles were removed too. I was surprised that it's missing key things such as second serve alternatives but we decided to go on with removing other things instead. I would buy this as a 1-2$ upgrade on the initial game but it's more of an update than a game worth 21.99$. I really loved this game and have bought all the previous ones but I will have to refund this year's version after being let down again. It has so much potential and so many great details but the development is too slow.
If you like football manager and tennis, then you'll like this game.
Trash! If you pick players ranked in the 200s they will get stomped by people ranked 1000 spots lower on easy in the first week .. Lmao absolute waste of time and money
Well, first of all, i dont know where all the negative comments are coming from...i'm personally having a blast and i'm very hard to please concerning the manager kind of games. Matches are realistic and veeeery intense, other stuff in game too, almost like a copy of FM. If you like management simulations, i really recommend this game to you. Enjoy.
It's honestly, and sadly, a pretty terrible game. I love simulation game, even more sport simulation games and I am a big fan of tennis (the sport I follow and enjoy watching the most). It should be my favorite game, and I can't find the fun. It's not realistic in any way. The points are very long compared to real matches, it doesn't feel at all like a real match. Then the results are weird, I got my 18 year old player to become undisputed #1 in no time, beating Alcaraz 4 times in a row. It's so easily exploitable, the training system is not fun, matches are not fun, the overall atmosphere of world tennis is not there... I love football manager because it really feels like you're making football history, like your results matter even if you manage a small team. The world feels alive with players having ups and downs, and there is a real alternate history that is created. In Tennis Manager, none of that, results appear random, the best players don't feel like superstars. Tennis elbow manager 2 was much better (even though I would not recommend it neither, too many flaws). I would love a real tennis simulation game, but I will keep having fun on PCM and FM I guess.
