This is a very nice straightforward platformer.
Hard at times, but also a really simple precision platformer. The game's hero is a TV. There is no story or introduction to the protagonist or the game’s world; you simply progress through the stages until you reach the end. Because this game aims for an old-school vibe and simplicity, you only have a few keys for movement and a jump. The controls are responsive and fair. Your small TV can withstand some punishment but you still need to be careful. While full health is only restored with big pills, you can still get lucky by destroying an enemy and finding a smaller pill that restores only one health. Sometimes they will drop a video cassette that grants you temporary invincibility. However, none of this matters if you fall into a hole, killing you quickly and forcing you to restart the entire stage. This is far more unpleasant than it appears because certain stages are longer and require precision platforming over tiny blocks. There are no checkpoints. If you are good at these games, you will be able to beat it quickly because there are just six worlds with three stages each. Each world has a theme to keep things interesting. The goal of each stage is to find five keys and get to the giant TV in the end. Stages are straightforward, with only occasional stages that requires you to find keys in two directions. There are no collectibles or secrets.
I've played this quite a bit now and have been pleasantly surprised with how fun it is. It's a simple platformer that can accommodate a high skill ceiling. PROs: Very easy to pick up and play Addictive gameplay Fun art and level design Soundtrack is original and has some pretty good beats Level select option to either skip or practice at your leisure CONs: No save feature - mitigated with the level select feature No level checkpoints - Not really an issue with how some of the levels can be Not much going against it. It's a solo dev project that has a lot of heart and soul put into it. Would absolutely recommend this
The graphic is cute and the music is awesome, it gives a very cool vibe to the game. If You like classic platformers, definitely give it a try!
Enjoyable Platforming.
This game scratched the retro-style platformer itch! It's a great game that reminded me of all my favourites when I was growing up, like Mario, Mega Man, and Kirby. The B&W artstyle is simple and yet powerful. There is something about the high contrast of black and white used in retro-inspired games that really feels good. The game is well paced with 18 levels with 6 distinct worlds such as a graveyard and outer space. Each style of enemy is introduced at a reasonable point so to not feel overwhelming. The music is fun and catchy. There were only a few sections that felt a little unfair, (like a sudden drop to either a platform or death) but they never got in the way of the enjoyment of the game as a whole, because once I fell for the trick, I learned from it an pushed on. I really enjoyed this game. If you are looking for a short game that reminds you of a mix of your favourite classics from the good old days, this game is great for taking you down memory lane while giving you something completely new.
Nice little (short) platformer. Just grabbed it on sale and finished it in just over an hour, but I'm sure it can be completed in less time, so I think it's a bit too short to pay the full price. But it was fun, nice pixel graphics, moderate difficulty, fun soundtrack, some almost-rage-quit moments and a bit of silly humor.
Fun and straightforward platformer. The old school aesthetics and simplicity of the stages and movement keep the game moving, and difficulty ramps up appropriately. There are no real secrets or collectibles, its really just get all the keys and traverse the stage to the end. Due to this, exploration can feel cheap, and make stages feel linear, even when they have branching paths. But this also lends the game to being very focused, and almost refreshingly so. Platformer objectives are right in front of you, mechanics are all based on what you can see, making this very by the numbers, but also pure. The purity works because controls are fairly snappy, and movement feels good. For the price its mostly worth it, achievements are tied to stages, and you just try to run through the game, potentially a good speed running project. * UPDATE and NOTES * I would like to say there are some silly amateur design choices in stages, especially later on (5-3 Comes to mind) that include things like blind jumps, forced unlucky timing, and guess and check game play. ALSO, the deadzone (for controllers when using a joystick) for this game is nonexistent, which can sometimes help and make platforming feel even better. But when you do that, you do NOT assign the mechanic to fall through platforms to just the DOWN input. Even super high level controllers will have slight snapback, and with no deadzone buffer, if playing without a D-Pad, you will fall through platforms when you do not intend, this is an absolute no-no for precision platformers. Just saying. Have fun, and don't think too hard about any of it.
The game works great on the Steam Deck!
Very cute and fun game! The controls seem just about perfect. Oh, and did i mention the music? I would buy the music if it was an album.
