Froggo's Adventure: Verdant Venture

Every once in a while we come across some hidden gems on Steam that brings us a lot of joy, uncompromising fun, and reminds us why we started gaming. This is one of those games for me, and I’m glad to have played it to completion. [b]Froggo’s Adventure: Verdant Venture[/b] is a platformer that is heavily influenced by [b]Kirby's Adventure[/b] (NES) without being a blatant copycat. Like the classic adventure of the – back then, new – Nintendo character, Froggo’s Adventure have some creative mechanics that unfolds as you progress in the game, and the level design is very clever. But unlike many platformers of yesteryear, there’s no artificial difficulty and the entire journey feels fair and well balanced. The whole game is very short, but that’s not a problem, especially considering its extremely cheap asking price. In fact, this is the best game of this price range that I’ve played on Steam so far, and I’m here since 2012. The achievements are also relatively easy, considering how hard achievements of retro-inspired games use to be, and I was able to 100% everything in three hours. I got to know about this charming indie title on the activity feed, when I saw that a Steam friend bought it a while ago. Fast-forwarding a few months, I’ve grabbed this game because I could use some nostalgic fun. I’m glad I’ve pulled the trigger on this acquisition (I was holding my purchase because my backlog is huge), and it’s refreshing experiencing a retro-inspired entry that feels like an authentic game that could belong to a classic console, instead of being some kind of nostalgia-bait title with little substance. If you enjoy retrogaming and classic platformers, give this game a try, and if you end up liking it as much as I do, please spread the word. We surely can use more of this kind of game nowadays, and this developer deserves more visibility and recognition.

Que joguinho delicinha, uma pérola!! Hiper recomendado. Bem divertido, rápido e orgânico até em suas conquistas, nada de chatice de zerar em diversos modos ou algo do tipo. Joguem que vale a pena. 1h e meia já faz tudo.

While short, this 30ish minute game is quite sweetly crafted! For a dollar, you'd be hard pressed to find anything this good.

To say Froggo's Adventure: Verdant Venture is a reinvention of the 2d platforming genre is an understatement, by subverting expectations inspired by games such as Kirby, Mario and Glover it creates it's own unique twist whilst also paying homage to that which came before it. SmellyFrog is able to combine a fun story, high quality artstyle and simple yet surprisingly deep mechanics for such a short game which ultimately creates a fantastic experience throughout. It introduces many ideas but doesn't dwell on them for too long, and rivals its contemporaries such as Super Mario Wonder in this manner. This might seem like I am overhyping Froggo's Adventure: Verdant Venture considering it is merely 8 levels long but it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience for its entirety.

This game was so amazing. My only complain is Jim. He is my bane. This game was so faithful to Kirby that I kept dying jumping off ledges, because I thought I could fly lol. I aspire to have this good of game design!

This game is wonderful but the best thing is that you open Froggo's little mouth when you press up on the analog stick. Thank you for letting me make froggy sing along to the music :)
