I wish more IPs would release collections like this. Had an absolute blast revisiting TMNT titles from the arcade cabinets, SNES, NES, Sega Genesis, and Gameboy. Didn't realize some of the ported titles had a few differences.
All the Konami TMNT video games in one collection, including their Japanese versions. I love being able to play the Japanese Super Famicom version of TMNT: Mutant Warriors (SNES TMNT Tournament Fighters) and see the beautiful Asuka uncensored. The only downside I can see is that the arcade version of TMNT doesn't have its original intro music, but seeing Asuka uncensored more than makes up for it.
If you played the games in the past, you'll be back to those days, especially with the NES titles, but this time is as easy as you want it to be since you have 1 state per game to save at any time, and also rewind 10 seconds. That should be more than enough to beat even the games that seem impossible. I had never played the GB titles. The third one is quite good, considered the time it was released. The arcade games are a blast, either solo or with friends. Takes me back to the time I played them at the arcade local back in my hometown.
blast from the past ! ive been using retro controllers for sega nes and snes and they all work perfectly !
As a collection this game is incredible! The fact that they took the time to implement online play into these old games to play together with friends is really really well done and awesome too! Plus the fact that there's so much from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle's history included over the years such as loads of information about the TV shows and comics from the heroes in a half shell with so many descriptions an detailled information about these forms of media is really really well done. I respect that a lot and the game has other nice quality of live improvements such as Saving & Loading and a rewind feature. Now for the games themselves: I really don't like ANY of the NES games included these are way too old and dated for my taste. I also don't like the 3 Tournament Fighter games included, but that's just because I'm really bad at traditional 2D fighting games and it's not my cup of tea. The Gameboy games are whatever, also way to old and dated to play more than once, but not insufferable like the NES games (In my humble opinion) Now the games I actually really like and basically only care about in this collection are the 2 Arcade Beat em ups and the SNES and Genesis Beat em Ups those games are really really good and loads of fun, but in terms of games included in the collection the only 4 worth your time to be honest. I would still recommend this as it's an incredible collection game with lots of things to enjoy for fans of the heroes in the half shell, but when actually looking at the games itself.... Well that's a different story then I wouldn't recommend it as there's only 4 out of the 13 here really worth playing.
A lot of love went into this collection. The extras are shell-shockingly thorough (screencaps of the tv shows, box art, manuals, comic cover scans. music etc etc.) and the games all have a rewind feature, save states, filters, strategy guides and more which is excellent as a few of these titles are wickedly difficult. Having played many of these titles in my youth, i didn't have a high opinion of many (save SNES TMNT, Hyperstone Heist and SNES Tournament Fighters), but i had a gas going through previously reviled games as well as those previously un-played.
I literally bought this collection as an adult because there was no possible way I could have beat TMNT for the NES. It was so hard. There were so many things against you in this game. The fact that there was so much lag, rendering issues, when you transition into a new part of the level enemies are already on top of you or attacking you. If anyone beat this game as a kid, you are definitely a prodigy of some sort, but like most people I waited until I was an adult to do so. There's not enough blood pressure medicine on earth to play the original TMNT on the NES more than once. Out of ALL the games I have played from childhood to adulthood that I have felt most satisfied beating! And I finally did today. All the other TMNT games are timeless classics. I grew up on the TMNT the arcade game, and renting Turtles in Time every weekend with me my friends and cousins and playing for hours. Nothing but great times.
