About
Hello everyone! What kind of game is Taste of the Wind?
When you were a child, you grew up helping in your parents' restaurant. Life wasn't exactly luxurious, but it was carefree. One day, however, the restaurant was framed, and your parents passed away. You had no choice but to work various jobs to make ends meet. You thought life would continue like this forever, until one day, your long-lost childhood friend suddenly reappears... and she brings along a 1 million debt?! Your fate is about to be rewritten.
The once silent Taste of the Wind is about to see a new dawn, but the shadows of the past have not fully disappeared… Bearing heavy burdens, will you move forward with your companions? While rebuilding your family business, can you uncover the truth?
🌟Main Gameplay🌟
As the restaurant owner, your most important task is to determine the management strategy for your restaurant. You’ll choose the monthly menu, set the price for each dish, decide whether to renovate or expand the shop, and determine whether to provide top-notch service to customers or cut costs to increase revenue. Do you spend a lot on staff training or set a meager 2,000 monthly salary with 90-hour work weeks? These decisions… are all in your hands!
Of course, the most important thing is to survive. If your cash flow is negative for two months in a row—welcome to the bankruptcy bad ending :)

Cooking, cleaning, checking bill errors, handling customer complaints… from 6 AM to 10 PM every day, there are many tasks to be done! Come and experience the daily management routine!

The childhood friend who bought you your family restaurent, the childhood companion with whom you used to get into trouble, the mysterious girl with a fiery temper… Taste of the Wind features many unique characters. Get to know their past stories and grow closer to them through sweet moments.
Maybe someone would say, no sweet moments, I only want to work and study! In Taste of the Wind, you can also learn the exclusive knowledge of your employees. Want to know what table turnover rate means? Have you noticed the little tricks on the menu that grab attention? Which knife should you use first when chopping vegetables? Why do you add salt last when stir-frying veggies? How can you tell if an egg is still usable? Plus, there's Karate, fortune-telling with Bazi, and Purple Star astrology... If you're interested in these, chat with the employees and learn more! Knowledge isn't just numbers; it's practical tips, and one of the branches leading to different endings!

In Taste of the Wind, while you have the goal of paying off the one million loan in five years, your choices will lead to different endings. Will you be the boss who pushes employees but makes a fortune, or will you choose to be more ethical? Will you opt for a chain store strategy and expand aggressively, opening a large restaurant, or go for a Michelin-starred restaurant? Or perhaps... even though the restaurant is your main business, you’re more into investing, fishing, and games of chance?
All these choices will lead to your own unique ending.

Honestly the premise really got me hooked. I love the idea of a restaurant management game while building relations with other characters. The art though not the best is very charming to me like a picture book which fits well with the visual novel aspect of it. Its just theres a lot of clunkiness I experienced while playing the game. some of it could be a skill issue but there was a lot of small factors that kinda added up to being too much for me. The translation: I get that this game is Chinese first but I can't read Chinese and there was an option for English so I feel like its fair to say this. Half the time reading explanations, Tips, Tutorials or descriptions felt really confusing. Like There wasn't enough proper explanation of how a mechanic worked So I just went into the game blindly or I'd just take a double take and question the wording. This actually makes me crash out when I go into other restaurants to scout and they make me try to explain my way out but the excuses provided make absolutely no sense to me and I just get rushed into doing a 50/50. I'd also sometimes just get hit with straight Chinese dialogue in cutscenes and have no idea what's going on even though I never once changed my language. on the topic of random Chinese subtitles there would be effects that pop up on the screen that are also in Chinese and I have no idea what they mean or what I just got/raised. The minigames: I kind of wish the mini games were fleshed out a bit more. At the moment they just feel kind of annoying and random. The translation doesn't help here either. Do an interview about yourself and a restaurant you don't know anything about because you just started the game how would you. Do some dance and answer some phrase/saying (Have no clue about what its referencing) and then gamble a 1/3 answer. Click a line of "what's wrong" on the receipt/Ledger which is either straight forward and easy or lets go gambling Fill the water up to the knuckle. Actually this one is funny. I was expecting some mechanic to it but in reality the best way to beat this minigame is to literally put your finger to the monitor and do as it says. I don't know if that's intended. feels really cheesy and honestly really troll for anyone else with bigger/smaller hands than mine. If it wasn't for that I'd say this minigame is just blindly guessing which also feels bad. There's also the minigame for the contest where you drag ingredients to your chef. I thought i was gonna be "click the correct as soon as you see your chef thinking about it" but then after some confusion I realized I had to drag it which makes me lose the adrenaline If i wanted more out of the game I'd have to flick my wrist which I HATE for a game I wanted to treat casually(Like that's got to be for more hardcore competitive games like FPS or Action RPGs I just want to run a cute restaurant). I hate dragging it. It just feels so stale and slow. Sometimes the bubbles on the ingredients will overlap so if you're dragging an ingredient to a bubble and a new bubble so happens to appear over the original one then you're just not submitting that ingredient and you wasted your time. Feels nitpicky to say all that but It doesn't feel good to play with Honestly the minigames are just not a fun mechanic. A game like this definitely needs minigames but the current selection and their mechanics make me more angry, confused or stressed than getting my brain some action. Restaurant management: This is probably a skill issue on my end but ITS SO HARD. I picked the middle option which was recommended for first timer beginners to experience the full game organically and I HAD NO CLUE WHAT WAS HAPPENING. First It feels like I have no freedom. The game wants you to choose what type of restaurant you want to be but if you put anything over the cheapest then you will run out of stock and you will literally sell 0 dishes. Like everything needs to be economical or lower. The game slaps you in the face too "if the dish is expensive but drops in price it'd be bad" BUT IF I MAKE THE EXPENSIVE DISH STANDARD PRICE THEN I HAVE NO SUPPLIES SO I'M FORCED TO MAKE IT ECONOMICAL OR BELOW. The game doesn't have a "buying ingredients" mechanic either WHICH REALLY weird for a restaurant game that really punishes you for having no supplies since YOU CAN'T GET MORE UNTIL YOU UPGRADE THE KITCHEN FOR A MEASLY 10+ IN STORAGE FOR THE GRAND PRICE OF 20k. I AM IN THE EARLY GAME STRUGGLING WITH SUPPLIES THAT I CAN'T FIX UNLESS I HAVE ENDGAME MONEY. Furthermore WHY ARE MY EMPLOYEES STRESSED OUT? THEY ARE ON BASIC TRAINING, AND IF I GO BELOW THEY DONT GET EXP WHICH HUH WHY IS THAT EVEN A THING? IF THEY'RE WORKING THEY SHOULD GET EXP BUT IGNORING THAT I USE MY ENERGY TO TALK TO THEM. I FREQUENTLY STAY AT THE RESTAURANT TO TALK OR GO ON THAT HIKING TRIP AND THEIR STRESS IS REACHING THE 100 MARK LIKE HOWWWWWWWWW. I went to the calming bridge area with the flavor text of "its calming and removes stress" AND FOR SOME REASON I GO BY MYSELF? SO MY EMPLOYEES ARE STILL STRESSED AND I GET THE LOVELY EXPERIENCE OF RIDING ON A BOAT THAT I SPEND MONEY FOR AND GET NOTHING OUT OF IT. ALSO THE INABILITY TO GET NEW DISHES. I got lucky with adding tea to my menu but everything I get are from new employees WHO I HAVE TO PAY FOR AND I DON'T MAKE MONEY AT ALL. And these tabs that let you develop a recipe or upgrade ARE LOCKED I CAN'T EVEN ACCESS THEM YET. AND SCOUTING RESTAURANTS KEEPS GETTING MY REPUTATION TANKED AND I LOSE MORE MONEY THAT I DONT HAVE. THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A WAY TO MOLD/CUSTOMIZE YOUR RESTAURANT AT ALL EVERYTHING YOU DO IS A LOSE/LOSE. Inconsistencies: This game is already really confusing to play with the management mechanic to the game. But that side of the game is also really weird to work around. 1. There's no tip/tutorial page. Or at least I can't find one. Sometimes I be clicking and completely miss something and all of a sudden I'm going in blind. I feel like something like this would be really nice to have too as a way to explain more in depth of hidden mechanics not really shown in the dialogue. 2. No save feature? I have to be dumb, I noticed it when the game told me to save before the contest. I could not find the save button for my life. I'd assume it'd be in settings (The gear icon) but it aint there. That also means no save scumming which I don't care much for but when I logged off I saw load states and thankfully it autosaves before you leave so I didn't lose all my progress but if there's a save feature can it be put in a more normal place? Or if someone forgot to add it please add it. 3. NPC dialogue tips. When I wanted to ask lingling about fighting she kept telling me to go to ruise my moral and to go to the temple. But the temple gave me ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Everytime I went there I just unlock new NPCs for my page or absolutely nothing. Another thing where I talked to the girl who owned the bamboo restaurant and she said oh if you want to talk to me just go to "this location" forgot the name but it was on the left side of the map. After going there I have seen here ZERO times. Like these tips/dialogue gotta be flavor text because they haven't been doing ♥♥♥♥. Meanwhile I played festival games (They're not minigames they just say you played), Donated money, buy tea (Actually pretty nice it got added to my menu at the restaurant), and post a poster THAT I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE WAS LOVE MATCH MAKING UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE AND LOST 5 MORALE AND 5 LIKABILITY. I DON'T EVEN HAVE THAT MUCH TO LOSE? (honestly my dumbass's fault I thought it was about fighting matchmaking and that I was signing up for it and NOT posting an ad on a wall for someone to date my employee) tldr. This game is overly complicated and has poor translation and the minigames are unfun. A lot of the bare minimums also seem to be missing, and clues given are fake and don't do anything.
