For a game that's dependent on the physics and controls, to have BOTH be completely broken and constantly glitching out is infuriating. I love the show and as much joy as I got seeing the Taskmaster house in VR, trying to attempt any of the tasks showed that the real challenge in this is just trying to pick up a specific item. Save your time and money. Chalk another one up for an unfinished game release.
Controls could be better but a fun game if you know the series
I could foresee this, with a multiplayer mode becoming the "Jack Box" of VR platforms, that being the go-to party game for gamers and non-gamers alike. Is this that game, no.... but could it become that game in future, absolutely! If this had a "pass the headset" type mechanic, it sure would make the current lobby not feel so desolate and lonely. The biggest downfall of this, is the physics, they are bad, and most games use them. However some of them were legitimately fun, thought provoking, or just plain 'taskmaster'. For for fans of the show, you'll probably enjoy it. If you haven't seen the show, then go watch the show as you'll have more fun than this, and then maybe come back to this. I can see why it has mixed reviews, and that is valid. This game is short, buggy, and physics will annoy you (not in a quirky funny way.... although with multiplayer, it could be fun to laugh while others are battling the physics). The game visuals are nice and fun to wander around TM house, I know some didn't like the audio of Greg/Alex, but I thought it was fine (considering they obviously chopped them up to reflect the choices the player made, which does give it more replay-ability). I'm happy with my purchase, and hope with enough support we might get a TM2 (or even an update for this one), with multiplayer and maybe regular releases like the JackBox series to fulfil its true evolution and potential!
fun
Et næsten perfekt spil.
Once you get past the novelty of being able to run around the iconic Taskmaster house -- opening every cabinet and door and throwing objects around creating chaos -- sadly you're left with a disappointing, glitchy experience. Just in my first 40 minute playthrough of an "episode", I experienced poor framerates, weird audio fuzziness, physics issues with the hands and interacting with objects. Worst of all, I couldn't complete a task because the game simply didn't recognise that I'd achieved the goal (putting the dog food in the dog bowl). While it's awesome having your own personal Greg Davies and Little Alex Horne, their unbeatable charm can't fill in the gaps left by the absence of... anyone else. Taskmaster's winning formula relies on the interplay between Alex and the comedians, and the creative ways the comedians come up with to solve the tasks. There's none of that interplay here beyond some witty lines by Alex reacting to you picking certain things up. The studio segments, even with the canned applause, are eerily creepy. And while I haven't played the whole game, there doesn't seem to be much scope for the kinds of creative solutions that make the show great. I can't see this game allowing me to dig up a golf hole to bring it closer to the tee, a la Rhod Gilbert. I cannot deny that it was awesome getting roasted by Greg Davies though. It seems they've recorded a lot of voice lines to cover many many potential things you could do in the task. But that's not enough to redeem it for me when the gameplay itself is frustrating and unfulfilling. I hope this game gets better with updates, but I'm not holding my breath.
I first got this game around Christmas time and it was unplayable. So I put it down until today and picked it back up again. The performance has been improved. I worked through the first task and was pleasantly surprised that it was challenging but not impossible. I did find a few things janky. Floor/wall clipping is the biggest thing. Items dropping out of your hand, and at one point a sword got stuck in the floor! Fix the jank, and you might just have a fun little game on your hands. Only true taskmaster aficionados will get (and appreciate) this game.
Game breaking bugs, that's all you need to know. In the first level (after the tutorial works fine), there's no ability to move. The game just stops right at level 1, I can't complete a single task. And I can't get a refund because I didn't play in the first 2 weeks after picking this up on sale. Another example, right in the tutorial, the task reads "task description" where there's supposed to be an actual task written. When I watch walk through videos of other people playing the game, there's an actual full task written out telling you to move the cardboard cutouts into red circles. But in mind, just the text "task description". Do not buy this game, or if you do, make sure you play it right away and when you run into the bugs, request your refund in under 2 weeks and 2 hours played. Such a shame how they wasted this amazing VR game opportunity on incapable programmers / testers.
The controls can be finicky, and the creative mode is only local for some reason? All the tasks in this game were original, fun and had me well immersed. If you like the idea of being in the comedians' position in the show, then this game will do you well! Minus the banter.. the automated voicelines aren't the greatest but they give you a decent break between tasks. After completing the game, there isn't really anything to do other than retry previous tasks, do the few post-series minitasks, or make your own tasks using the creative mode (though there's no way to actually make task cards in the mode so, im not sure of it). All in all, a fun play for any taskmaster fans, but not worth FULL price. Maybe just play the board game :P
I wanted to like it, I really did. I love everything taskmaster, but this is basically unplayable. Unusable controls, wonky movement (that makes me motion sick and I don't ever have that issue), and bugs that break the game. I really wish they had more funding for a better developer, because this was awful.
