A Long Lance torpedo rips through the hull of your flagship. Huge columns of water from enemy gunfire surround your battleships. It's just another day in Task Force 1942, the first in a new series of spectacular World War II Pacific War simulations from MicroProse.

A dated naval simulation. However, its still fun. Some of the scenarios are bloodbatrhs. Its not a groundbreaking game But its still fun.
Decent campaign and AI for its era. Graphics not as good as the trailer, but let's be honest, who's playing a mid-90s game for the graphics? Recommend fully if you're interested in the era, and particularly in the Guadalcanal campaign. Would love a remake. I've been playing this one off and on for close to 30 years.

If you enjoy dos games still and love ww2 naval strategy then this game is perfect. In game its a lot of fun and you have easy point and click pop menus on the chart which allow you to do all your tactical orders for either the who task group, division or independent actions of each ship - what i like too is that although you could play the game well from the chart screen alone, you have the freedom to take up positions in the ships so you could just play a battle out from just a single ship in any part of the task group -and this lets you man the guns and the torpedoes - obviously the graphics are old school so dont play it for that, though they are still good imo. the ai is fine too, it will maneuver its ships accordingly and will use smoke screens and spotlights and starshells to target you also. a good game overall that sits between the Great Naval Battles of WW2 series and the later Fighting Steel. because some but not many, keyboard keys are used - such as the number pad for using the main guns, a glance through the manual may help - also although this port is pretty good, the ship ID check is not disabled so you will need to just look this up in the documentation for teh game.
This is one of those really old games with a cryptic interface and no tutorial. (It runs in DOSBox.) Although I sometimes enjoy DOSBox games, that isn't what I was looking for when I bought it. I would have had totally different expectations if I had known, and might have enjoyed it more.
don't waste your money - the game has no sound and is still piracy-protected, so it's just a desparate try to cash on old game without much effort put in
Admittedly I purchased this based on the MANY hours I had with it decades ago when it first came out. It is massively dated now, but still plays okay and is enjoyable. For the price, it is well worth reliving the good old days with this one!
did not play it even though i was a kid in the 90s but as someone that likes retro games this is actually impressive for the time i think it might be hard to learn to play at first but for a pixelated 3D game in 1992 its got some good graphics actually for the time most games until ps1 and n64 were pixelated but lacked 3D sure its graphics may not have aged well but its a 30 year old game and its actaully kinda complex for a naval game of the time i would say a good game for people who like naval battle simulators
