[h1]200 character summary[/h1] Tank Maniacs is a great chaotic Local brawler for up to 4 players, Choose a character and one of the gamemodes to Kill the competition with your tank and morph into other tanks by collecting pickups. [h1]Story & Characters [b]7/10[/b][/h1] There is not much of a story, There is a story, But that won't play out in the game, There is just a small piece of text on the store product page, But I focus on the content of the game itself. The game seems to be some kind of gameshow where you have to battle tanks It has a very typical sports commentator. The game has 12 playable characters which all have their charm, They are very unique and have a bit of a personality. They don't talk, but they all have a name, picture and a unique tank, which already tells a lot. [h1]Gamemodes & Gameplay [b]9/10[/b][/h1] The game is a local multiplayer game for up to 4 players, You can also play it by yourself against bots. There is no campaign, no unlockables, Just 12 Characters, 11 tank types, 10 maps and 4 gamemodes, 8 if you want to count the team variants. The game will be exactly the same every time you launch it. There is also no Steam Cloud Save for this reason. You play as a tank, you can drive left and right and you can jump and shoot, and those are all the controls, The goal depends on the gamemode, But it mostly involves taking down other tanks. There are also suprise boxes that are being dropped by airplanes, They give you full health and you transform into a random tank, There are 11 of them, You can get a flying tank that drops bombs, or a dragon tank that shoots fireballs, They all behave and shoot in a different way. The weapon physics remind me a bit of Worms. The gamemodes are Last Tank Standing, In which everyone has 5 lives and the last tank alive is the winner, Deathmatch is the same, Only the winner here is determined by who has the most kills, Gameshow Which is like LTS but a lot of stuff is going on, like exploding monkeys and Holy Hand grenades straight from the Worms universe. and finally Symmetric Showdown where there is a timer and each time it hits zero everyone changes in the same tank type, You don't heal but the crates here contain health. These 4 gamemodes all have a Team variant so you can work in teams if you prefer that. The levels are often interactive, Things change, turn or have dangerous areas, One areas is even balancing while the tanks decide which way the level will tip. The tanks controls smoothly, The physics are great and The gameplay is a lot of fun, It is addictive and especially with friends, There is no online, So make sure you have those controllers, If not you can assign 2 players to the keyboard. But Multiplayer is certainly where this game shines, If you get a bit better at the game the AI is too easy. [h1]Graphics & Soundtrack [b]9/10[/b][/h1] Graphically it looks nice, I don't want to say Worms again, But it looks a bit like Worms. The funny Cartoony drawing style, It is very colorful and playful. While you are bombing your friends the commentator will always know the right thing to say, He almost is the soundtrack, But the music is nice too, It is nothing special, But it fits the game well. The user interface is great, You start in a press any button to play screen, With 4 empty squares, Touch your controller and you can select a character, Then you can drive around in your tank getting used to the controls, If you drive to the right you will enter the gamemode selector screen, Here you can also drive around to change your gamemode, team or not, And if you drive to the right again you can add bots or all stand on a platform which will start the game. It is a perfect UI for a local brawler. [h1]Performance & Support [b]7/10[/b][/h1] The game released last December, and it has not sold well sadly, It failed to gain any traction and got a Steam limited rating while it is an absolute gem, The game got last updated in Januari, I hope they have not given up hope on this project and will continue to support the game with new content. [h1]Endgame & Replayability [b]9/10[/b][/h1] There is no endgame, The game you start in the first time is all that is available. But there is a lot of replayability if you play local multiplayer a lot. The gamemodes are fun, It creates a nice competitive atmosphere to any gamenight and this is one to be played occasionally for years. [h1]Improvements[/h1] I would love to see a campagin, Maybe even a coop campaign, Maybe copy Worms entirely and also add in a training, More tank types and more levels would be nice, Online multiplayer and some unlockables would also be cool. Maybe some more characters, I don't think this is a must, there is a great variation already, But who doesn't love unlockable characters, Maybe some skins for a tank if you win 10 rounds with that tank. [h1]Conclusion [b]8/10[/b][/h1] It feels like a Team 17 game, It looks like a Team 17 game, It even has the crossovers like most Team 17 games have, With Team 17 IP nonetheless. But it is not a Team 17 game. Surely there is nothing wrong with Team 17 and there is also nothing wrong with this game, It is extremely fun to play, especially if you have more than 1 friend over. Even against bots it is fun and addictive.
