Tall Poppy was absolutely not what I expected... and I mean that in the best way possible. Going into it, I was expecting a fairly standard indie horror game. It's labeled as horror, so I figured I'd get the usual creepy atmosphere, tense moments, and a handful of jumpscares. Well... I was half right. There are definitely plenty of jumpscares throughout the game, but they're unlike anything I've ever experienced in a horror game before. Instead of trying to be relentlessly terrifying, the game leans into the ridiculous. The ghost literally farts. It jumps out and just yells, "Boo!" Half the time I didn't know whether I was supposed to scream or laugh. Honestly... I usually did both. That's what makes Tall Poppy so much fun. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and because of that, every scare feels completely unpredictable. One moment you're cautiously creeping through the environment, and the next you're getting jumpscared by something so absurd that you can't help but laugh after your heart rate comes back down. I wouldn't necessarily call this a traditional horror game. If you're looking for deep psychological horror or an intense, terrifying experience, this probably isn't going to scratch that itch. But if you're looking for a game that's packed with ridiculous scares, unexpected laughs, and a genuinely entertaining time, Tall Poppy absolutely delivers. It's one of those games that's perfect to play with friends or on stream because everyone ends up laughing just as much as they're screaming. Overall, Tall Poppy is simply a good time. It manages to be funny, goofy, and surprisingly effective at catching you off guard all at once. Sometimes horror doesn't have to be serious to be entertaining, and Tall Poppy proves exactly that.
An Unforgettable Ride of Hilarious Comedy and Heart‑Pounding Jumpscares
Tall Poppy is one of those rare games that manages to blend laugh‑out‑loud comedy with genuinely effective jumpscares and horror moments in a way that feels fresh, clever, and utterly entertaining. Whether you’re in it for the laughs, the scares, or both, this experience delivers from start to finish. What makes Tall Poppy so remarkable is how it plays with your expectations. One moment you’re cracking up at the sharp, witty writing and absurd situations; the next, you’re yanked out of your seat by a perfectly‑timed scare that catches you off guard — and it’s done with such style that it actually feels earned. The game understands rhythm, pacing, and how to manipulate both comedy and tension to create a rollercoaster experience that’s constantly surprising. The cast is expressive and hilarious, delivering dialogue with impeccable timing that amplifies the humour — and when that humour abruptly gives way to a horrifying twist, it lands hard. Animation, sound design, and character interactions all support this blend beautifully, making every room feel alive (and sometimes suspiciously creepy). Mechanically, the game unfolds with fun exploration and environmental interaction, but it’s the emotional swing between comedy and horror that really makes it shine. You’ll laugh one moment and then genuinely jump the next, which keeps you fully engaged and always guessing what tone the next scene will take. Whether you’re playing with friends or solo, Tall Poppy thrives on contrast — hilarious absurdity grounded with moments that genuinely make your heart jump. Verdict: A brilliantly funny and wonderfully chilling experience that never stops surprising.
10 / 10 — Highly Recommended
