Capture glimpses of wildlife and find hidden treasures while taking a relaxing walk in Take a Walk.
Gameplay & Features
Settings & features include; audio controls, graphical settings, and the ability to reset your game data. Once in a map you can change settings such as time of day, weather conditions , auto walk speed, and the ability to turn off head bob in both manual and auto mode. The five levels that are present at the game's launch include a tutorial, Ed’s backyard, island, nature reserve and aurora. You have the freedom to play any map in any order.
The Visuals & Audio
Sound is really important in a game such as this and I am happy to say in this game it is very well implemented. In a walking sim you want to feel like you're in the environment, and all the sounds in this game blend together to make a great experience. From birds chirping, toads croaking, or crickets chirping for example in the forest maps to the crunch of your footsteps on the snow in the Aurora map. The weather has great sound effects too from the light rain to the wind blowing during a snowy blizzard. Visually the game is gorgeous. I had no problems running the graphics on high. I toned it down from the highest settings to cut down on pop-ins but I expect you will experience some pop-in with a game this graphically intense. I played around with all the weather choices, settling on light snow or light rain in most of my walk-throughs. I highly recommend playing around with these settings to create the perfect mood for you to walk around and explore in. My favourite map was Aurora both in atmosphere and visuals. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3412838129 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3412838000
Helpful Tips
* Press F for your flashlight (helps in those dark forested areas) * If you hear a sound like footsteps behind you it is usually a rabbit, can be kinda creepy when it gets dark, not going to lie :) * Try out the weather effect from clear skies, cloudy, foggy, light rain, rain, thunderstorm, light snow, snow, and blizzard. Remember to apply your settings before returning to the game. * You can re-spawn at the beginning of a map by pressing “P” - also helps if you get stuck the odd time * The game saves your time markers and totem count so getting some achievements may take a bit (like the 5 hour or 10 hour one) but it will keep track of them when you log back in to enjoy some downtime. * The only map that has no set path and auto-walk does not work on is Aurora
Overall Experience
This game provides a break from the modern hectic world in times when you cannot actually get outside to enjoy nature. From the sounds of nature, the animals scurrying across your path and the little surprises in store to find along the way it is a delightful experience. I loved playing around with the weather effects to match my moods (my favourites being light rain or light snow). It just added that touch which made my walks through the forest or the north so much more peaceful. A special shout out as well to the developer Ed who continues to put so much love into this game. He took all feedback seriously and implemented a lot of changes before release. I highly recommend this game for those who need some downtime to reflect, relax and take a moment for themselves. The kind of experience that makes one’s soul feel good. ✨ IndieGems wishes to thank Wondering Fox & Edward Powell for providing a free review copy for this game. Well...this is it. The game I've been waiting for. I work from home and am always looking for sounds in the background but can't listen to anything with dialogue because I need my attention at work. And having youtube open is just a recipe for distraction for my ADHD self. This completely covers all my bases. The sound effects and auto-walk are soothing and immersive. Having these beautiful scenes in my peripherals is mood-boosting. And when I want a quick break I can jump in, search for a totem and then lock back in. It's perfect. Aurora and the Nature preserve are my favorite so far. So beautiful and well-designed. I can't wait to see more maps!
I'm starting to feel like simple games are all I need. Sure, full attention, fast reaction times, and complex strategies are fun, but after a day of work, those games can be way too overstimulating at times. In my area, it's winter, so enjoying a walk outside isn't always easy. Even the summer months are hard to bear. This game perfectly replicates getting a fresh breath of air and going for a light walk outside, all in the comfort of your home or office. Controls are super easy to pick up! I highly recommend Take a Walk for parents that want to ease their kids into gaming without the addictive qualities and product placement/advertisement found in some other games targeted toward children. Finding different easter eggs and Auto-walk are my favorite features of the game - you can choose to actively engage yourself in the experience, or let it take over for you to enjoy the beautifully designed scenery and sounds. On the real, this game takes me back to when I was a kid - just wandering around neighborhoods and parks, finding cool looking rocks or trying to discover treasure with no goal in mind - literally hours on hours of just taking a walk. I missed that feeling, and this game brought it back. Life was simple then, but the experience playing Take a Walk reminded me that life still is. Big thanks for the developers for helping ease my mind! <3
A beautiful walking experience. Great landscapes to walk through, very relaxed, even without sticking to the paths. I found the totems pretty quickly. Since then I've just been walking around, sometimes in auto mode. Or with a flashlight in the dark forest ... Awesome.
THE AMBIENCE!!! I have this running on a PC under my TV (Im not a pc gamer, Im a handheld loser i know) BUt this game was recommended to me by a group on bluesky and I can say!!! Its live art. Letting it just play in the living room with spotify in the background is perfect 10/10 made me use this steam account again after almost 15 years lol
Walking-sim curator review: 6.5/10. This game has two distinct identities: one is very much a pure walking sim in the strictest sense of the word. Wander aimlessly or even let the game wander for you and let the landscape wash over you. While the landscapes are fairly varied between levels, within each level there just isn't that much different to see as you wander around. To me this blunts some of the appeal of it as a pure just-lookin-around-walking-sim. However: I can see that this might appeal to some people especially the non judgmental, non goal-oriented, exploration-seeking type. I however personally feel like I need the thinnest gloss of challenge and gamification to my walking sims. To that end the game offers its other identity: Find all the Fox totems hidden around the landscape. Usually but not always these are near the pathways that you walk on, which means that a large part of the "challenge" is making sure that you traverse all the paths once. This is somewhat more challenging because of the high degree of self-similarity within each level. I wouldn't say that this is a great benefit, however, as I would definitely prefer it if there was a bit more variety of land formations, trees, and other landmarks. I suspect some of this comes down to my wanting a slightly different product than the dev was trying to make. But I can't help but wonder if more landmarks and variety would have elevated the experience significantly, not just for me, but also the aimless wanders. That said, I don't wish to be overly negative. I did enjoy my time in this game, and never felt like quitting before I had completed all of the different landscapes. Also, there were several humorous Easter eggs that definitely added a bit of variety and levity to the otherwise mostly tranquil experience of wandering through these naturescapes. Nice! I played using Xbox 360 Controller, and the game worked great that way. I appreciate the options to invert y look and also change the default walking speed which I bumped all the way up to sprinting as anything less seemed very very slow.
Just found all totems and mythical creatures! Its a fantastic chill walking sim game with 5 different levels and wonderful graphics. Awesome game love it and the wolf :D
Is there an option to turn off motion blur? I really don't like it since it makes me nauseous.. I really like this game nonetheless but I hope there's an update where you can turn om and off motion blur for people with motion sickness.
I'll be the first to say, I'm not the biggest fan in the world of walking simulators, but this one was recommended to me. I spend the first few ours just enjoying the view and finally spent the last hour finding the special guest on the forest map. Overall i think I can say I recommend this. If you want a walking sim thats relaxing and asmr-y (is that a word?) THis is it. IF you want something a little extra that rewards collections and finding cool things, guess what. This is it too. OVerall very nice. 9/10 gobbled glizzies
I got this for under USD$1. It is what it says it is, and open-ish walking simulator. Relaxing, yet you can looking for stuff to collect as well. Not sure what else there is to say... 6/10 at $1
