About
Sylph is a first-person spaceflight simulation with realistic orbital mechanics, Newtonian physics, and ship systems management set in a star system orbiting a black hole. Explore one of the most detailed and accurate black hole simulations ever rendered in real time in interactive software. Schwarzchild geodesic ray tracing, gravity funnel, event horizon, and what lies beyond. Built on the Sylph engine, a bespoke engine built from the ground up with no boundaries or speed limits.
CORE FEATURES:
Open world and scenarios.
Docking mechanics with capture envelope.
Instant time skip down to the minute.
Realistic orbital mechanics. Sphere of influence transitions. Transfer planner and rendezvous solver.
Real time orbital telemetry computed from live state vectors.
Momentum-based 6DOF flight model. Each thruster enacts real Newtonian force on the craft.
10 holographic cockpit panels. Nothing is decorative.
Ship systems management with startup sequences, electrical load management, pump and valve operation. All independently modeled and derived from real physics. Failures are cascading and emerge from the simulation state.
Fully modeled closed loop expander-cycle bipropellant combustion. Rotational inertia, turbopump characteristic curves with flow-dependent degradation, cavitation modeling, turbulent flow losses, boost pump to turbopump series staging, line charge/drain dynamics, heat soak, regenerative cooling.
Independent lower thrust system with forward and aft modes. 12 individual RCS thrusters with rotation and linear control.
8 Autopilot programs operating through the physical thruster simulation.
Electrical simulation with state-of-charge and voltage sag, two independent generators, circuit breakers, power draw, proportional load sharing, and overload trip.

It's hardcore space flying. If you have experience with similar hardcore space games you will know what you are doing. If not (like me), but like to figure out and press buttons and make things happen, also recommended. It needs better onboarding and I'd say a pdf manual. I recommend it, but it's a niche inside a niche.
Not great. Opaque interaction system, opaque instructions. It's not clear at all what and how to interact with anything as the game seems to be completely unresponsive when I start it -- it only lets me interact with a couple of menus that don't seem to do anything. We need a little more guidance than this, fam. Wouldn't recommend this game at this time until someone explains at least how to start the f**king ship in a clear way. Constantly flickering and glitching control panels don't help either. Keyboard only controls are obnoxious and clunky.
Although I love the concept of realistic space games (especially with clickable cockpits), this game is not ready for release yet: - Displays are flickering and cutting out - the controls for the head up display overlap with those to control the cockpit - The cockpit is not really clickable and has to be managed with the keyboard, which is very clunky - a Reference exists but no proper tutorial to find out where you are and what you are supposed to do If the above is fixed in the future, I will happily edit this review, as I love the idea, but right now I cannot recommend the game in its current state.
Takes a little bit of learning the ship, but patience is a virtue. Definitely a hardcore space simulator rather than an arcade experience. There's a ton of ship data and it really makes you feel like a solo pilot in space. It might not be for everyone, but if its for you, its a good one.
Fantastic playground to learn about space navigation
This game reminds me of my beloved friend Jason who passed away from brain cancer in 2010. In 1987ish we bought a game we knew nothing about called Elite. I remember staying up very late at night with him figuring it out and playing until we dropped. Sylph is a pleasure to figure out for some, and to others who don't have their "Jason" anymore, its a little more difficult. I love the highly technical and realistic. This does it for me, but it has not held my hand. You will be looking externally for answers...
it takes a bit of reading to figure this game out but once you do it can be very fun. that said i have one issue with it currently first the displays seem to have issues running on higher resolution monitors and are liable to disappear or get cut off. i am editing this review because i realized that the warp hibernation only works if your ship is completely shut down this includes autopilot altitude settings even if rcs is disabled and the ship has no actual altitude control capability.
A bit of a work in progress but I love it
If you’re looking for a space game that actually respects physics, *Sylph* delivers in a way most games don’t even try. This is not an arcade experience—you’re dealing with real orbital mechanics, real system management, and a ship that behaves like a machine, not a toy. The learning curve is steep, but that’s exactly what makes it satisfying. Every successful burn, rendezvous, or docking feels earned. What stands out most is how everything connects: power systems, fuel flow, propulsion, navigation—it all matters. You’re not just pressing a button to “go faster,” you’re thinking through procedures and consequences. It rewards patience and attention. The UI might look intimidating at first, but once it clicks, it becomes one of the strongest parts of the game. It gives you exactly the information you need without hand-holding. If you enjoy games like Kerbal but want something more grounded, more technical, and less forgiving, this is absolutely worth your time. What happens after you cross the singularity is kinda weird and does not fit well with the rest of the game to be honest. Not for everyone—but if it’s for you, it’s *really* for you.
