A fun VR roguelike it has good combat and a great style and has a fun upgrade and weapon system i always want to come back and play more.
Personally I've had a blast, been playing for 3 hours and still discovering new things! This is definitely a full fledged game and it's awesome it got updates for what seems to be 3 years and they're recent ones. The graphics look wonderful playing through a Quest 3 and streaming from a 3060 Ti. It can definitely last a while. The classes take a while to unlock, but that's something to keep you coming back some -- it wouldn't really make too much sense for everything to unlock after only a few runs. Update: Now at 9 hours and still really enjoy the game. I show it off to my friends when streaming VR. I would ignore a lot of the negative reviews from 3+ years ago... the game is still being updated in 2025 and I think has undergone lots of improvements since.
its possible to have a shotgun with over 1000 rounds in the chamber, meaning you pump it once and never again. 10/10 no notes
wasted potential
HTC VIVEでプレイしました。 銃を持ち続けるために常にグリップのボタンを押し続ける必要があって気づいたら銃が無くなってる事が何度かあり萎えました。
玩起来很好,可惜没有中文
I've played for more than 1 minute...not sure what that's about. I'd say I probably have a solid 10+ hours. I dig the retro style cell-shaded art. Reminds me a lot of Borderlands. Gameplay is solid as a rogue-lite. There are plenty of weapons & upgrades to pick up and while I consider myself a VR veteran at this point, it's a great game for someone who's still getting their feet wet.
as the sniper class i got a build that made me so powerful and rich that i was able to complete the vending machine in one game. i did this by having such insane damage output, i'd say in the MILLIONS and i had the perk that gives you gear per damage threshold and i just kept head shotting and i couldn't die cause headshots healed me 10% of the damage i dealt, which was a lot, so as soon as i got a head shot i instantly healed and got almost 1000 gears.
I don't -hate- Sweet Surrender. If anything, I like it enough to bother to write a review. It's not a bad roguelike in the absolute sense, it's just not the roguelike for someone like me. In the nicest way possible, this game seems tailored more towards a younger crowd that may be newer to VR. But for someone who just spend way too long cutting his teeth to unlock the minigun in Compound, Sweet Surrender just falls short. There's a heavy emphasis on player power, which ultimately ends up shooting the game in the foot. A variety of weapons with tiers of rarity, 6 slots for equipping chips to enhance your stats, multiple grenades, heals everywhere. The amount of loot the game throws at you is actually a little comical. On the 3rd level I ended up with the highest tier LMG and enough heal on damage & max health = more damage chips to absolutely steamroll to the end. But that didn't stop the game from throwing an entire dump truck's worth of extra chips, just in case. Meanwhile, the enemies are mostly the same stationary turret or lanky robot with the occasional larger tanky bot thrown in. (Which may not even actually attack you if the alarm isn't sounded, or you can just shoot them anyway because who cares they aren't hard to kill). Simple enemy design isn't a terrible thing, yet again Compound's enemies mostly just walk at you and shoot. But each room has so few of them with so much random crap in the way, you'll rarely be engaging more than 1-2 at a time and clearing a room usually only takes 4-5 kills. And since most enemies are similar, it becomes trivial to room clear and move on. And while Compound has multiple difficulties, unlockable guns, mutators, difficulty specific enemies, and of course that tempting minigun, Sweet Surrender has classes, which are just different starter loadouts for the same run. And one class is the "hard" mode. All in all, Sweet Surrender HAS a fair amount of content for a VR roguelike and I dig the Void Bastards aesthetic, but I did not feel challenged enough to want to continue on. Recommended if you want a VR roguelike, but Compound / The Light Brigade are curb stomping you and you want to be the boot instead.
