I really wanted to like and recommend this game, but I cannot. On the surface, the idea sounds great. Mix and match pieces of different retro games/genres and play through whatever wackiness gets created. In reality, the game overall fails to deliver. Individual mashes take at most 10 minutes to play through, but rarely did I ever spend that much time in any one "game". Instead, some are so easy (even on a hard setting) that you're in and out in a matter of 30 seconds or less. The game description even calls out that some mash ups easy to win, some will be impossible. That's acceptable given the premise. Part of the problem for me is the actual preparation of the mashes. Temporarily and/or completely unskippable loading, story, and information screens for EVERY run. When the game is 30 seconds long, Why do I have to spend that much or more to learn about what the game is? In the beginning, it was somewhat fun to read through and watch these intros, but eventually, there's no need. Would be significantly better if there was a way to just skip and jump straight into the game. Second problem is movement outside of mashes. The main character is incredibly slow. By itself, not that big a deal, but added to the long loading times, it creates more frustration. Not only to I have to wait for all the loading to happen, but I have to spend painful additional seconds to move to the console in the store EVERY time I want to start a customized game, enter a code, or re-run a saved game. Utter tediousness! As well, the dev card or game generation system seems kind of broken. I have only played for 10 hours, but in my last session I saw a new character in a platformer that I hadn't run across before. Ever. Looking through the dev cards for those I haven't picked up, there seems to be a lot more to this game that, maybe due to RNG, never appeared for me. Instead, I play repetitive levels with repetitive characters, which gets more stale more quickly. I'm not sure what kind of random seeding/generation is used, but it is either awful, or I am particularly unlucky. Some achievements seem to be broken. In particular, story unlocks if you unlock them out of order never actually unlock. The game has a story to follow, but you are not required to follow it to the T. That's technically a bonus for me, but not when it breaks otherwise unmissable achievements. Lastly, and unfortunately the biggest problem for me was the story itself. Ignoring the tedium and bugginess I seemed to face, the story itself was actually interesting. I was getting into it, waiting to see where it would go, but then.... NOTHING. The game "ends" with a cliffhanger that doesn't feel like a cliffhanger. Instead, it feels like a "we ran out of time/money/energy/whatever, so let's just wrap up and ship" kind of ending. It's really terrible. There's no closure, there's no resolution, there's no explanation of what really happened to the system's creator. UGH. The game is generally a big waste of time as you slowly, laboriously load one mash after another, essentially, arbitrarily grinding your way through a story that goes nowhere. Quite a disappointment. **** Edit to say that most of the reviews have less than 5 hours in the game, and many of the positive ones con across as "first impression" reviews, rather than the "I beat the game and know what I'm talking about" kind. That should be helpful in deciding whether or not to purchase this game for yourself.
Supermash is a very interesting game that keeps you playing a new game by combining different genres. The chance that you would play the same game again is unbelievably small as the magical system in supermash keeps making new combinations of worlds, enemies, weapons, glitches, characters, playstyles, ect ect to generate a whole new game. Some of the results tie in nicely with styles of retro games. Ditto for the sounds and music that sometimes have a nostalgic effect. Hopefully this game will one day get an extra section where you can play new generated games online together or against eachother. Here you can see a few of these auto generated games that you can expect from the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMQcUSBz9W0
What we have here is an awesome concept that unfortunately gets undone by tedious gameplay. The idea of combining different genres with interchangeable assets is honestly refreshing. What happens, though, is each "mash-up" feels broken, and more importantly, not all that fun. Goal requirements for each game is not all that exciting, such as defeating X amount of enemies or finding X amount of coins. In some cases, your just asked to find a specific item or character. Mix in some game-altering glitches and you'll find some frustrating mechanics that do more harm than good. I want to see this idea more fleshed out, as the possibilities are endless. As is, this is a title that bored me quickly and had me wondering what could have been.

Follow The Cpt Froggy Club Curator Page for plenty more!
SuperMash ~~~~~~~~~~ SuperMash is a Game-Maker Game!!! This is a unique concept that I have never had the pleasure of trying before. At first glance, SuperMash seemed simple and straightforward, but as I started digging into the matter, it turned out to be so much more than a simple mix and match game-maker game! A simple-looking indie game that lets you combine two different game genres to create something unique, SuperMash manages to have its own little storyline running through the whole process. And not only that, SuperMash also simulates some things that creators face while building games, but in a super toned-down, simplified version. Things like facing bugs, glitches, and/or a totally unplayable game full of issues and no way to progress! I must say this early on I am very impressed with this concept and what the game brings to the table, but there are still a lot of things that need to be polished. Plot: Clerk and June visited a local yard sale hoping to find something interesting on a budget. They see a kid who has spotted a Gameboy! The young fellow's eyes light upon finding the hidden gem, but his enthusiasm soon runs dry as his mother hints that she can’t afford it. Heartbroken, they start to walk away. Clerk felt bad about it and decided to give the kid his Gameboy. The poor kid’s face lights up with joy! Seeing this, the host of the yard sale, a lovely elderly woman, calls them. Attending to her call, Clerk and June were soon surprised with a mystery box! The elderly woman was so impressed with Clerk’s kind act that she decided to give him something that he might like. “What’s inside?” they wondered. Peeking inside the box, they were surprised and thrilled to find a bunch of game cartridges inside, along with a strange console. They were blown away! Clerk owned an independent game store. Thrilled to find a unique console, Clerk and June rushed back to the store to check it out. Their friend Rob points out that this strange console runs two cartridges at once, and actually won’t work with only one! Very strange, but Rob also points out that this console not only runs games, but can also create them by mixing and matching them with different genres! Gameplay: Unfamiliar with the Game-Making game genre, I was very curious to know more about this game. My Initial thoughts from the store page were that the game seemed easy enough; just mix and match two different game cartridges from two different genres to get something new as a result! Interesting. Seemed simple enough, but oh no! It wasn’t. There is a lot to it, but that still wasn’t enough in some cases! Currently, there are seven unique cartridges available in-game. Each represents seven unique genres - Platformer, Action-Adventure, Shoot ‘Em Up, Metrovania, Stealth, and JRPG. As you start to mix and match different genres, you will soon notice one thing for sure; nothing really makes sense, but in a good way. Mixing one genre with another gave a variety of results; some seemed plain and simple with simple machines, such as a turn-based shooter, while others were totally whacked, with unusual layouts, weird gameplay machines, no story, simulated bugs and glitches, no progression, etc. The game was meant to provide such results; fair enough, but I felt the lack of playability. There at least should be some incentive for me to try these bugged-out mini-games!!! On the other hand, the good stuff . . . games which actually turned out to be really good! For example, mixing a JRPG with a Shoot ‘em Up produces a game that’s a simple indie-style hack and slash, with simple character design and 6-button gameplay. Simple, fun, and actually super cool! There are a few minor setbacks that I hope will soon be looked into, such as the fact that the gameplay for the most part is super short, super dialed down. The back story for some of them is shaky, but for the most part, I enjoyed the games. Most of the genre combinations seem to come with unique bugs, glitches, secrets pathways, collectibles, currencies, etc. This was great to witness, but although some had fun gameplay and surprising features, they failed to appeal on the other side of the spectrum with things like backstory, dialogues, a short few minutes’ worth of gameplay, lack of in-game elements, etc. World design: The main world of the SuperMash is colorful and simple with a cartoonish art style, which went nicely with the theme of the game. And as for the mix and match genre of games and their worlds . . . well, that’s another beast in its own league. Most of them seemed to have their own uniquely-styled world, or the same world with some interesting elemental characteristics built into them; they were fun to discover and explore. Although all of them were short in terms of the playable/explore able area, that didn’t stop me from appreciating this large undertaking of a project. Music and sound effects: Good selection on the background music. Fits the game just fine, but got repetitive after a while. And as for the sound effects, I liked the work they put into them. Considering all aspects of the game, SuperMash turned out to be an insane one, bringing a super unique concept to the table with its mix and match game-maker genre; I loved the concept with all of its balls and weasels. It’s not perfect by any means, but I respect what this game is all about and I am very interested in seeing what it might turn out to be with more updates. Positives: + Decent prologue + Mix and match game maker genre + Interesting and unique concept + Decent music selection + Large variety of mini-games to be explored + Mini-games are full of secrets, surprises, collectibles, etc + Some simple mini-games were a tone of fun to go through Negatives: - Most mini-games feature bland, flavorless stories - Some are literally unplayable due to lack of goals or playability - Some games gave no incentive to play through/explore - Poor dialogues A super unique game that lets you mix and match genres to create something new and unique. 6/10 Key provided by the developer/publisher for review purposes. First thoughts, cool idea but poor execution. The random factor is too wild while all the objectives are too samey. No matter how weird the mash up you always end up with "Hunt the Target, Collect Coins, Find Exit, or Kill X Enemies". The game warns you at the beginning that some mash ups may not be possible to complete and that is an understatement. There are difficulty controls but everything is timed and it always feels like I'm being rushed through so I don't know how tedious the gameplay is. Some are hilarious like combining shoot em ups with a jrpg and you have to open a sub menu everytime to cast "shoot". But these moments are few and far between. It feels like I just bought one of those chinese knock off consoles that say "500 in 1 Games" and half of them are the same game with a different name. I think there needs to be less randomization more personal touches.
A game i feel it was made exclusively for me... pure procedural chaos. Ok lets start by saying that these are not "games"; they are "mini games". even if you choose long duration, you can still complete them in a matter of minutes. Here anything goes. I see lots of people complaining that the games are way too random, but thats the charm, maybe your mission is to rescue someone who happens to be on the next screen, completing the game in 5 seconds. or maybe the condition and parameter make the game unbeatable. i love that. i love having to adapt to whatever the game throws t me. its fresh everytime. but, its not perfect: the maps are premade, which i feel was a bad decision. they should have been procedural for even more chaos. also the game has bugs (glitches are a game feature, but im talking about real bugs), but nothing too big. this concept is something that needs to be expanded upon. this cant be the only game of this style... this more than a review is a feedback to the devs. please make a sequel :) i give this game a 9/10 plus a prayer for supersmash 2 <3

:) https://youtu.be/7k90L1NXk7Q
This is a great little time killer. I hope Digital Continue makes a sequel!
