While I say I wouldn't really DISLIKE / not recommending it I will say I just felt very frustrated with this game at times. Mainly Gale being inconsistent about catching the ball in the air at times, and his owner not picking up the ball even though when it directly touches / passes through them. (<-- This caused me to lose a couple times) I didn't even know you could climb up trees as I thought you had to parkour off the branches to get to the ball whenever it would land on a branch, and I discovered the climbing up trees by accident while just sprinting through the forest and even then it's not exactly clear the timing you need to hit / when -- essentially it felt more like random chance. I also don't think getting hit should reduce time, just stun / slow down Gale. I get this was probably added to prevent someone from just tanking every hit but getting unlucky ball throws or just getting unlucky and getting combo'd by like 20 different things in one sequence isn't really fun. I could also see time loss being kept but adding something like i-frames (invincibility frames) to prevent the aforementioned scenario above. Weird, Awkward Controls, Arrow Keys, Space (To Go Faster) plus X & C with no options to change them. Even if you do use arrow keys and not WASD why not have the Jump be Space Bar, or Up Arrow and Shift to sprint? I don't know if there's a reason behind this control scheme, but definitely made it more awkward to play. In my opinion, this game doesn't teach you how to play it. I'm not saying it needs a full blown tutorial that holds your hand through everything (it doesn't, that's bad for any game). But there's no "invisible tutorial," maybe there could've been a cut scene or an area before the owner actually throws the ball, where Gale's Owner leads Gale on a walk or something through the forest where Gale encounters different animals / mechanics and the player can experience them before Gale's Owner finally throws the ball. This game isn't hard, and I'm sure I could beat it if I actually played more than like 20 minutes. I just didn't really enjoy playing it. In terms of actual game mechanics and controls this game isn't really good in my opinion, however in terms of art & story it's decent. I found the upgrades to be super creative though some of them were kinda useless.
wait a minute...
This is one of the most heart wrenching games I have ever played. 10/10 would recommend.
This game has an engaging game play loop of fetching the ball. I love how fast Gale can get up to and ducking and weaving through bucks and snakes feel great. There's a fair amount of challenge and I love how difficult it can get when more and more obstacles are added as the level increases. I love the presentation and how cozy playing this feels with the calm music.
I Like This Game (:
